Ugghh. Mack would be "a lot of other guys didn't want the job" kind of hire.
-
The only reason he would even have a chat with Fred Glass would be as leverage to get a raise. Which is exactly what KU would do. So now we're back at that pesky little issue of KU being a notably better job at this time. I think (hope) the AD is more focused on reality than becoming a pawn in that game.
-
What possible motivation could Bill Self have to consider leaving KU for IU? Let's see: I think I'll leave a current (and all time) blue blood program, where I have become a very wealthy legend and easily win my overrated conference every year and always have a team capable of a deep tourney run, for a used-to-be blue blood. A program that is clearly currently a level down from where I am, plays in tougher conference, and has an even more demanding fan base than the one in Lawrence (which already loves me). I'm all for thinking big, but some of this stuff is a bit loco ... :)

Seriously, people gotta quit giving Twitter ho's like this dude a podium on message boards.
-
That would be the court of public opinion. Thought that was obvious enough.
-
Has Sean Miller, in any way/shape/form, ever said or done anything that would indicate he should even be on any IU list? Maybe I missed the part where he let it be known that he would love to leave the gig he has and potentially steal a marquee job and 4 mil a year from his own brother.
-
I agree. But that's the bargain it seems plenty are willing to make. New Mexico made it, UCLA made it. I hope IU won't. Frankly, even if the Pierce thing had never happened he's just proven himself to be a mediocre coach. Not bad, not really good, but good enough to stay in the biz. Settling for that, plus the baggage, would be extremely disappointing.
-
What can Alford say now about the Pierce fiasco that could change anything in that department? Fall on the mercy of the court and say he made big mistakes and has learned from it? Apologize to the people directly affected? That is not going to be part of his homecoming narrative if indeed it happens. That story is just an inherent part of his baggage now and always will be. If IU hires him, they are hiring him and the baggage. Nothing he can do to change the past.

No wafflers need apply! But an IHOP waffle sounds pretty good right now.

It's 2017. Message boards, Twitter, Instagram ... it's everywhere. The White House can't control leaks -- how is a university administration supposed to? Any coach who doesn't understand that this is the new reality, and deal with it accordingly, isn't being rational. Billy Donovan coaches grown up men in a grown up game that is strictly business. Those guys don't give a crap who is coaching them -- they're just cashing huge checks. Nothing that leaks or doesn't leak is going to change their inevitable fate in the playoffs one bit.
-
Do we really want a theoretical coach so wimpy and uncommitted that he would let the reality of internet chatter scare him off? Lol. Hell no. The next coach better want this job a lot more than that, or he's the wrong dude and will never survive in Btown anyway.
-
True. To think otherwise simply points out the inflated self importance some of these anonymous message board gurus get off on during these tumultuous times. Gives people a rush of pretend power.
-
Who does this? Attention whores do this.
-
That's because this entire thread is the grown up equivalent to 5th grade playground gossip. Nobody really knows jack.

Fred wasn't called "the Mayor of Ames" for nothing. He was royalty there.
-
Indeed. I believe he tried to use FCA to put her in a more forgiving mood. Absolutely disgusting.
-
That just seems ridiculous. If BD did have some sort of verbal agreement to come, does anybody really think he would say "honey, I'm trying to keep this IU thing on the down low for obvious reasons but if you wanna go look at houses, go ahead. Sounds like a great idea."
-
Not to mention having to explain away a very mediocre coaching record that pretty much proves he's no better than the guy who just got canned.
-
I choose to believe Fred's "double check plus" remarks on guys with Indiana ties was just a calculated smokescreen -- it makes me feel better.
-
CTC is going to have to lower his price. Nobody is going to pay him 3 mil a year again. He's somewhat damaged goods right now, not a hot commodity.
-
Nice, but there's an even more fitting Judge Smails clip for somebody to post up. "Oh, Billy Billy Billy ..." It's pretty long, though. But in the end, Billy comes through.

I didn't ask if it was likely there was a meeting -- of course it is likely. I asked if there was any actual confirmation available that the meeting took place. There appears to be none, and no specific, verifiable knowledge of who attended said meeting. So how we are getting to the "trustees want this, and Glass wants that" is really quite a stretch at this point.
-
Can anyone legitimately confirm that this big meeting of the minds actually took place today/tonight? Assuming it didn't take place in a secret underground bunker, at least this basic fact should be able to be certified. Seriously, did it happen? For sure?
-
All Mizzou had to do was scratch a little bit below the surface on the CTC situation to realize it was probably a bad road to take. If their AD watched his obnoxious and incoherent presser after last night's game, that could have easily been enough to scare them away.
