Inclined to Give Archie a Break
HoosierFan1994 replied to Bigred3588's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Well said! I agree with everything you said. It's just frustrating. I speak for all of us in the fact that we are tired of waiting for IU to compete. -

I've been super busy the last month and haven't really posted since Christmas. It really sucks what is happening. I guess we saw the warning signs when this team squeaked by Northwestern and Penn State in December. I still like Archie but it is frustrating. The 2016/2017 recruiting class has brought nothing to this team (to anyone who argues.. this team hasn't made a single NCAA Tournament with that group and and doesn't look like we will this year). Devonte, Justin, and De'ron just aren't capable of playing meaningful minutes in the Big Ten. Al might be the outlier. This is equivalent to an NFL team missing two straight years in the NFL Draft (cough cough Colts a few years ago). I feel bad for Juwan. He is playing his heart out. Romeo is very good. I do think he needs to stay but I can't blame him for whatever he chooses. Rob is going to be a very good Point Guard but I don't think he or the team expected him to play this many minutes. The bottom line is it is frustrating to see teams like Texas Tech and Louisville get new coaches and have immediate success. I don't want to blame Archie, but I wish we could have had a better grad transfer. Fitzner's stats declined each year at St. Mary's who doesn't play the level of competition that IU does. I am still excited for the future (fingers crossed). A Keion Brooks commitment this week would be what the doctor ordered. Some players have some serious thinking to do for next year. -

Is it just me or does Justin Smith piss anyone else off? -
As far as a commentator, Dakich is one of the best. Very knowledgeable about the Big Ten, college hoops, IHSAA basketball, and IU in general. But folks, he is a lot like Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith in the fact that he is an entertainer, more so in the Indianapolis area. He isn't going to say the usual boring things. He wants to start controversy. I usually like his takes but his hatred for Archie makes me scratch my head. He had a take on twitter about Alford that I didn't agree with.

RIP - Terry Hutchens - 1958-2018

Awful. I have a few of his books. So knowledgeable about IU. A great person. RIP Terry. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Syracuse is a weird team kind of like Xavier.. on the years they are ranked high and hyped up they fall. But on the years they aren't as highly thought of (2013, 2016, 2018) they do well.

I just don't think people understand..Next year Purdue is going to have one of their worst seasons they have had in a long time. Losing the Malik Hall kid was huge. Purdue and their fans have higher expectations. They'll be a bottom three team in the B1G for the next few seasons. That could be enough to can Painter.
-
I also don't buy Ohio State just yet..The lost to an unranked Syracuse team (who, like Oregon, is overrated.) To me, the top of the Big Ten is Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, and IU.
-
I think Brandon Newman will be very good, but not right away. Usually he has some talent but they look aren't going to be very good next season.
-
I am with you. How is Gonzaga ahead of UNC and Marquette ahead of IU? Also Purdue is receiving votes?!?!?!?!
-
I get it, but Rob Phinisee, Damezi Anderson, and Armaan Franklin were the typical kids who went to Purdue. Archie is now getting those kids. Phinisee would be Purdue's second best player and Damezi would see more minutes.
-
Man they are terrible. They could very well miss the tournament, even with one of the best players in program history. I said it on here earlier...the future looks awful in West Lafayette. I'm not kidding, they could be a bottom 3 team next year in the Big Ten. I'm fine with Purdue keeping Painter. Archie Miller ruined him.

(2019) SF Trendon Watford to LSU
HoosierFan1994 replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Yes! I can already see it at Memphis..The Wiseman and Jeffries combo will get a 9 seed and lose in the first round of the NCAA. LSU and Alabama have the same ceiling as well. I think Trendon will be a good college player. I don't think he is a one and done though. Looks like a 3 year player at least. He may not dominate as a freshman but if he sticks around as a junior or senior he could be a very good player. -

I think he really is considering IU. If we can get an official that'll be huge. Would probably have to wait it out. IU has a higher ceiling than any of those other programs but he would probably be our 3rd or 4th best player while he would be LSU and Alabama's best player. -

(2018) SF - Jerome Hunter Transfers To Xavier
HoosierFan1994 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Feel awful for the kid. The main thing is that he is healthy. A lineup of Rob, Al, Jerome, Keion, and TJD seems like a pretty good team! -

Transfers
HoosierFan1994 replied to Beachfront Property's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Really good question but I don't think they go to IU. I think it is the same reason most 5 stars in '19 didn't choose IU-Rob Phinisee. He looks like he is the man. -
If they really blow it in the SEC I think he bolts for the NBA after this season. His method doesn't work.

Thoughts on Crean after one and one-third years of Archie?
HoosierFan1994 replied to southernindianahoosier2's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Come on man.....'m not saying Archie is the second coming of RMK and I agree we should take our time to evaluate him but he is head and shoulders better than Crean. Archie has pulled in more in state talent in two years than Crean ever did at IU in nine years at IU. -

Yeah if Zeller chooses UNC or Butler I think he is gone. -

Should have been gone after 2011 but getting Zeller and Yogi helped keep him around. -
Villanova and 5 stars don't go well together.
