2019 General Recruiting Thread

He hated UK with a passion too. I just think it's gotten worse! Out of hand. -
I was listening to Fox Sports radio this morning...they were saying how boring the playoffs have been this year. In my opinion- I love it! New teams outside of Golden State. No Lebron. Honestly makes me more interested in the NBA going forward.

2019 General Recruiting Thread
HoosierFan1994 replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
It started many decades ago. It just got out of hand with the events you mention. The first big one I remember was Calipari and Rose. UNC was pretty bad. Then yes it got out of control. -

I think I'm with you. I'm okay withing hanging out in the grey area (whatever that means) but in no way should a university be paying players. That is so stupid. You never know how they will turn out. Look how stupid Arizona looks for paying for DeAndre Ayton. They had a first round exit in the tournament that year. He's a good not great NBA player...same with Louisville and the Bowen kid. He's not even that good. Kansas and the DeSousa kid as well. He's not even a starter. I want kids who want to play for Indiana and Archie Miller. yes, there are kids like that out there. Look at Texas Tech with Chris Beard and Virginia with Tony Bennett. No way is a program like Memphis clean. They have been terrible for ten years and all of a sudden they get a high profile head coach and they're landing all these top kids?? -

I don't think anything will change. Only think that will make them change is if they start to lose viewership. I'm getting older and I'll have less time to watch sports. I'd rather watch a sport that has at least some integrity to their game. The start of all this was when NOTHING happened to UNC after their academic scandal. Louisville, Kansas, Duke, UNC, LSU, and others should be banned from postseason play. -

Best of luck to the kid..I get wanting to make your own path. I just don't like the school he chose. They should be in deep sh!t but instead got a 5 star recruit. -
2019 General Recruiting Thread
HoosierFan1994 replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
You are so right. As much as I love college basketball I am almost done. Right now the sport is 2nd to the NFL (which by no means is perfect either). I love March Madness but it's about to fall into the tier with the MLB and NBA. I love IU basketball and everything it stands for. But I am over the cheating. The NCAA is corrupt. This program had to rebuild over stupid texts. Look at what all of these other programs are doing. Some are actually committing crimes. I thought a year and a half ago this was the best thing for college basketball. Turns out, it was the worst thing. There is no reason Will Wade should still have a job at LSU. Same with Sean Miller, Roy Williams, Bill Self, and Coach K. I get hanging out in the grey area but they are well past that. -
2020 General Recruiting Thread
HoosierFan1994 replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Based on the info I have read, Cross, Leal, and Davis seem to be who the staff is going after. Love, Galloway, and Garcia are probably next. Sounding like Cross and Leal could commit this summer. -
Based on where he might fall, some good spots for Romeo: #10 Hawks- Trae Young, Collins, #8 pick #11 Timberwolves- KTA, Wiggy, D-Rose #14 Celtics-Tatum, Horford, maybe Kyrie, Brad Stevens #18 Pacers-Vic, home state where he would be loved #19 Spurs-Pop, DeRozan, Aldridge Each of those teams have other scoring options. Would give Romeo time to develop. He would probably start on at least 2 maybe 3 of those teams as a rookie.

Beilein has agreed to a 5 year deal with the Cavs
HoosierFan1994 replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yeah 3/5 guys I listed won't take that job. It's tough to find a good coach this time of the year. I'd want an NBA guy. Juwan Howard has been rumored. I'd rather have him than a Porter Moser. -

8 final fours, 1 natty, 6 time runner up. That's pretty good man. They are a good program. Especially after Beilein took over. Thad would be awesome there. I think Jordan is a reach. -

My top 5 for Michigan: Billy Donovan- Think he could really take the job. I don't think the NBA is for him. He is still really young in the coaching world. Chris Beard-No chance but worth the call. Tony Bennett-Again, no chance but worth the call. Thad Matta-Could be an interesting hire. His last few years at OSU weren't great. But he had a good 8 year run similar to Beilein. Nate Oats-Doubt he leaves 'Bama but crazier things have happened. If none of these guys take the job I hire within on an interim basis. See who is out there next year. They are too good of a program to take a step backwards. I see Porter Moser's name attached. 1 NCAA tournament appearance in 15 years..no thank you. -
(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky
HoosierFan1994 replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Kid is pretty good. Honestly thought he was one of the more underrated prospects in this class. 247 and ESPN differ on his ranking quite a bit. Losing him to UK still hurts mainly because I felt IU had him in the bag (and UK fans don't want him). I think the staff did too. My only issue with his UK choice is Cal brings in obvious one and done talent every year. That isn't Keion. He needs development. These kids will see more minutes than him. That makes it harder for Keion to showcase his talent. Keion would have started day 1 at IU. I was thinking maybe 12pts 5rb as part of his stat line. That is good but not great. I felt he and TJD would both be good in year one and be elite college players in year two-three. Also-to those who say "well, he saw plenty of time in their tough practices" ask James Young, Harrison Twins, etc how that worked out for them? Nothing beats game experience. -

Interesting : Big Ten Coaches Rank Big Ten Jobs
HoosierFan1994 replied to Old Friend's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think the top 4 is very accurate. IU, Sparty, OSU, and Michigan are four of the ten biggest brands in college basketball. (Duke, UNC, Louisville, Kansas, UCLA, Kentucky round out the others in no order) IU can and will be relevant again. Have to find the right guy to lead the program. Hope Archie is the answer. -

He really could have been special. Still can be-look at Charles Matthews. Imagine if a kid like Gary Harris, Yogi or Troy Williams goes to UK. They probably aren't as good of a player as they were at IU or Michigan State. -

Yes!!! I'd like to see their reaction when Keion is playing 15 minutes (if that) a game. And again, Cal will bring in more talented players the following season. He will have the same exact role. See Nick Richards, Wenyen Gabriel, Briscoe, etc. I smell a transfer in the future. -

I posted the same thing last week. Peegs guys claim the Brooks family is okay with it and that momma Brooks talks to McDaniels mom. I don't get who was giving this kid advice. Calipari will just bring in more talented guys next year. He is never going to be the guy at UK. At best their 4th-5th best player. He could have been the man at IU and Michigan State. Ask Terrence Jones, , Doron Lamb, the Harrison Twins, James Young, etc how their NBA career is going. Being the 4th/5th best player at UK doesn't get you far.. talent like John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis, KAT, etc are smart to go to UK. Cal thrives with those kids. Not borderline one and dones.. -
Beilein has agreed to a 5 year deal with the Cavs
HoosierFan1994 replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
You know, I can't blame him for his frustration. He has three guys testing the waters. If Iggy, Poole, or Matthews go undrafted, they can return to campus in late June. By then summer workouts have began. The uncertainty could cause a recruit not to choose Michigan. I'm not sure what the solution is. I love how the players have options, but it throws the coach off. You should have your roster finalized by now. I'm a fan of moving the draft up to late April/early May. MLB holds their draft midseason. Of course I'm also a fan of having kids go pro straight out of high school. If you do decide to go to college you must stay three years. It will help the quality of the NBA and College basketball. -

HoosierFan1994 replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think so. He will be 67. Not saying coaching in the NBA isn't tough but college basketball is so much about recruiting non-stop. That has to be tiring for even a 40 year old head coach. Cleveland may have their pick of Zion, Ja Morant, or RJ Barrett. Sexton and Love are already decent pieces there. Question is, who does Michigan hire? Do they promote within? Rough few months for them. Ugly Sweet 16 loss, losing a few guys to the NBA, and now this. -

Really enjoying the NBA playoffs this year. Why? 1) New teams. Only 2nd time Raptors have been to the conference finals. Bucks last appearance was 2001 and the Blazers was 2000. 2) No LeBron.... Once Durant leaves Golden State the NBA will be wide open. I was so tired of seeing the Super Team in Oakland destroy Lebron.

I'm sure they will start the season as a top 5 team. No way do I see them in the Final Four. They play in a weaker conference too.
