Archie deserves blame in this but the administration has been awful for over 20 years. Glass needs to leave now.

Thanks Chris. So is it to the point where it's either Al/Justin go or Archie goes?

Yeah my friend talks about it all the time. The year before they were Runner-Ups too. 25 years later USI is still a force. Talk about leaving a legacy.

Guy I coach with played for Bruce Pearl at USI. I tell him all the time to text Bruce and tell him IU wants him. Dude has been a winner wherever he's been (USI, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Tennessee, Auburn). He got busted for something stupid at Tennessee like Sampson did at IU. I think Bruce would get students to come to our games. He'd get people excited about IU basketball. His teams play a fast paced fun style. I think he could get any recruit he would want. In my fairytale dream head coach list, he's in my top 3.

Yup. I think to be a Big Ten/NCAA contender you need certain guys in certain roles. You need 1-2 players who are top 10-15 players in the country. I think TJD could be that guy, but I'm not so sure Archie can develop him. You then need 2-3 players who are top 10-15 players in the conference. I think that can be TJD, Rob, and Jerome but again, not so sure Archie can get them there. You then need 5 guys who are good at their role. I think that was how our 2012-2013 team was built. I think that is how Virginia was build last year. I think Archie has guys who have a lot of potential but right now are no better than just role players (Franklin, Hunter, Phinisee, Brunk). I think that same thing can be said about our three recruits next year.

Here is another Archie thing that doesn't get talked about a lot....outside of Juwan from his sophomore to junior year, who at IU has gotten better under Archie??? Smith, Green, Davis, and Durham to me are the same players they were as freshmen. Same for Phinisee and Anderson so far. Just because those guys might score a few more points a game than they did doesn't mean they have gotten better. That is what worries me about TJD and Hunter. Are they going to get better? Eli Brooks for Michigan averaged 3 points last year. He is getting 11 a game this year. In college basketball you need your players to get significantly better. I think that is what is holding Purdue back as well. Their guys aren't getting better.

And they basically kept the same team with 3 additions. 3 good players, but none of them can shoot it.

I'm just torn. I want to give Archie time. You look at Beilein and Bennett, their first years were not that great. However, the lack of effort just bothers me. There are no adjustments made by the coaching staff. Archie had two scholarships for this year. The players are out there. At the minimum, Archie needs to bring in new assistants for next year. Some change has to be made.

Should have never left Michigan. He just wasn't a fit for the NBA. Certain guys are. I remember in 2007 Izzo was rumored for the Cavs job. I laughed at that idea. If this is true, sign me up too. He will be coaching somewhere next year. I don't care if he is 67. He could coach a good 5 years and get this program back on track. Coach K and Roy have won in their late 60s.

    Archie Miller: An Assessment

I really don't have a lot of positives to say about Archie right now. He has had a total of 7 in-state recuits commit to playing for him. That might be it. Archie is all bark no bite. He promises that changes are coming...nothing happens. It's the same crap over and over again. He holds nobody accountable. Players can do whatever the F they want. That was one of the worst performances of the Archie era and that is saying something. Really, what is the difference between year 1 and year 3? I was at the Indiana State game in 2017. Same crap. This is not an NCAA Tournament team. Go watch a team like Auburn-hell, even Penn State play. There is such a huge gap between this team and the really good ones. The blame falls on Fred Glass too. He 1) Extended Crean after one good season and 2) Let our programs APR suffer under Crean. Archie had it tough coming in but there are no excuses by now. Even the Crean guys have been under Archie for 3 years now. He doesn't have to play those guys. Indiana better watch it. They are losing a generation of fans. Purdue and Butler are currently better than this sh!t show of a program. Fans near New Albany root will root for Louisville and fans up north have their choice of Purdue or Michigan. The thing is, outside of TJD I'm not excited about this roster. Justin and Al are who they are right now. Role players playing way too much. Rob Phinisee has regressed. I don't know if it's the injury or what. Brunk is extremely limited and he too plays way too much. Miller will get a year four unless it really hits the fan (which it might). He better get some help in the grad transfer market. It is almost like when Crean got Zeller or Bryant. IU needs another difference maker. One last thing...I went to Archies press conference in March of 2017. I'll never forget seeing the players walk out of the tunnell to their seats. They looked like zombies. None of them looked excited at all about the new coach. Granted, Devonte and De'Ron were the only current players there. But still, this team just doesn't respond to him.
  12. I 100% agree with this statement. As a teacher/coach, a lot of our success on the court is because the parents stay out of the way. Of the three groups I've worked with, the one with the crappy parents had a losing record. Go figure. That team was a nightmare to coach too. I was ready for the season to be over with from the start of the year.

I was thinking the other day-in my IU fandom I've had what I consider 4 special teams (2002, 2012, 2013, and 2016). Only one of them made it past the Sweet 16. I'm amazed that kids today even root for IU considering Butler, Notre Dame, and Purdue have had more success recently. My buddy is a Patriots fan. I told him to enjoy Belichick as long as he can. There aren't too many out there like him. As IU fans we know this. I'm not saying IU can't ever win agian. But what Knight did from really 1972-1993 was special. It's hard to be that good for that long. To me, the blame is mainly on the IU administration. They let it get this bad. Davis did a special thing in 2002 but many IU fans knew he wasn't the long term answer. I felt like Sampson was wrong place at the wrong time. If he did that in 2018 instead of 2008 he would've been fine. Crean did an awesome job bringing IU back but he couldn't get over the hump. He also lost the culture of the program. Archie....well I don't know what to say about him. I think Saturday was it for me. I've defended him since day 1. I was even at Assembly Hall when he was introduced. He's been all talk. No accountability. Don't give me the APR or Bill of Rights stuff. I hope the new AD can turn this program around.
  14. Yeah-Rob needs to sit out for sure. He's not himself. Feel like they wasted a year of elgibility.

No-Knights Army record. It was okay but nothing great. People today would not have like the hire because of that.

Same here. We all get hyped up about resumes. Go look at Bob Knights prior to IU. Imagine if BTown Banners was a thing in 1971. We all would have rioted. (Granted it was much harder to make the tournament in the 1960s).
  17. Rob Armaan Jerome TJD Joey That's my starting 5. It isn't pretty for sure. But I feel it's the best combo right now.
  18. Yup. He has one or two games a year where he goes off. Durham and Smith should not be starting. They are role players at best.
  19. I sure hope. Quit playing Green, Smith, and Durham.
  20. Cuban looked like he had just ate some raw beef on Saturday. Could clearly tell how pissed he was at the current product.
  21. Just for the record, I really like the guys Archie has brought in. TJD will be an All-American candidate next year. Jerome is a wild card. I personally think he should be starting right now. However, Phinisee, Brunk, and Armaan are role players-as of right now. (Rob and Armaan could be very good as upperclassmen). I like Leal, Geronimo, and Galloway but I think of them as role players too. Archie has to get a grad transfer for next year that can shoot it and handle the ball. They are out there. Nothing against Justin and Al, but I wouldn't cry if they left the program to play somewhere else next year.
  22. Hey Chris I was just wondering ( I'm sure you've touched on it before) but given what we know so far in the Archie era, do you think he is the long term answer for this program? With Glass retiring would the new AD bring in his own guy for next season or would you expect him to let Archie get a 4th year? Is the APR still really hurting Archie? He only has 4 Crean recruits on his team.
  23. This was truly awful. Most hyped up game in years at Assembly Hall and this happens. I'm a moron to think this team was going to win by 20 plus today. A few things: 1) This team lacks that leader. I'm sure they are great people, but I am ready for De'Ron, Devonte, Justin, and Al to be gone. They don't bring enough to the table. Our underclassmen have potential but they aren't talented enough (outside of TJD) to carry this team. 2) I really want to believe Archie is the guy. I do. He has said all the right things. He's recruited really well. But I don't get this. Anyone using the APR excuse-I really wish Archie would have let Al, Justin, and Clifton go when he first took the IU job. We've missed the tournament the last two, maybe now three years. I wouldn't mind them sitting out of the tournament if it meant Archie could bring more of his guys in. We all love TJD, Joey, Rob, Armaan, and Jerome. They aren't good enough to carry this team just yet. 3) The new AD has a decision to make next year. Archie's not going anywhere regardless of what happens this year. But he will be on the hot seat next year.
  24. I hope that this is the day this program turns around. Coach Knight comes back and they go on a long winning streak, make a deep run in the tournament, and get some momentum going into next year.
  25. I'm from Evansville and I'll say this: Kaufman is my number 1 in the 2021 class. I like Lander, but I think Kaufman has a very high ceiling. That being said, go IU!
