2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves
HoosierFan1994 replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I was wondering that too. Another poster wondered if Smith would grad transfer? Maybe Race? Especially if IU gets Matt Cross. We will see. Think he has two open spots as of now. -

Yeah I think Damezi could become a very good player off the bench in his time at IU. I hope he is up to game speed this year. -
2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves
HoosierFan1994 replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Awesome time tonight!! Evening started with IU Board Member Pat Shoulders with introductions. Easy to say that Pat is sold on Archie. Archie talked and answered questions for a total of 45 minutes. IU great Anthony Thompson was in attendance along with Fred Glass and Todd Leary. Afterwards you were able to get a picture and autograph from Archie. Nice guy, was surprised I was taller than him! Fred, AT, and Todd were also very nice. More the reason I hope Archie works out at IU. A few takeaways: 1) Archie doesn't BS around. He means it when he says it. He is honest and up front. I think that is a great attribute with recruits. 2) He didn't say this word for word, but IU's breakout players could be Devonte Green and De'Ron Davis. Said De'Ron is in great shape and that Devonte is going to have to make plays this year and be more consistent (sounds familiar) 3) Someone wanted me to ask this but he answered it earlier in his time- Sounds like Al Durham will be your #2 option at the PG. He also said that Armaan will be a combo guard too. 4) Said that Joey Brunk has been a great addition to the locker room and that it is amazing how one guy can change things. Said IU fans will love him. 5) If you would have told Archie a year ago that Phinisee would have the freshman season that he had he wouldn't have believed it. 6) Said that he has had teams that has had guys who will look at him and say "I'm ready to play" when Archie knows they aren't ready yet. Says all 11 guys can and will play. 7) High on TJD-could be IU's most talented player. 8) Can't talk about recruits but he likes where things are going. Sounds like it is a possibility IU adds 2-4 more guys in addition to what they have. I don't think he says that unless he is certain. Also said that he LOVES Evansville and wants to be here all the time-that drew a huge applause (Lander). 9) Not sure how to take the Jerome Hunter news. Said he is cleared but didn't say how much. 10) Damezi Anderson is the teams strongest player. 11) Said that he uses Justin Smith as an example in his defensive drills during practices-he joked he thought he would never say that and also said that Justin could be on an All-Big Ten Defensive team. I hope Archie is the right guy. He has said and recruited the right way. It just has to translate to wins. I hope they have a good year to build on. -

Is Jerome Hunter the new Andrew Luck? In regards to not knowing anything. Not saying IU is hiding stuff. -

If they let us I'd be more than happy to ask. Any other questions you guys can think of? -

Great question. The Shoulders family set this up. Pat is the EVSC attorney and is a Harrison alum (along with being an IU board member). I bet Archie will talk the whole time. I really want to hear about Damezi, Jerome, and Armaan. We need backcourt/wing depth. If 2 of those 3 guys can give you good 10-15 minutes I think this team will be solid. -

Going to hear Archie talk today at Evansville Harrison High School. Looking forward to hearing what he says. I like hearing input on how the summer workouts have went. -
(2020) PF Matt Cross to Miami
HoosierFan1994 replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Would be huge to wrap 2020 up before the season starts. Not saying you stop recruiting the class in situations, but having 3-4 commits would be nice. You could start focusing on 2021. -

Season Predictions 2019-2020
HoosierFan1994 replied to Stromboli's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Hope everyone has had a great summer. Really happy about the Galloway commit! 1) 19-11 (11-9) In the Big Ten, one win in the BTT and lose in the 1st Rd of the NCAA Tournament. They will be much better but I'm not going to set the ceiling high yet. 2) Rob Phinisee, Devonte Green, Al Durham, Justin Smith, Trayce Jackson-Davis 3) Rob- 10 ppg Devonte- 14 ppg Al- 9 ppg Justin-9 ppg Trayce- 12 ppg 4) Damezi Anderson will be the 6th man of the year in the Big Ten. Think he will be much better. Like Hartman's freshman to sophomore year. 5) Devonte Green will be 1st team All-Big Ten. After a rough three years I think he will have a very good season and be in posotion to be a 2nd rd NBA Draft pick. -
(2021) PG Khristian Lander to Western Kentucky U.
HoosierFan1994 replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think so too. IF Archie misses the tournament again the only way I see him keeping his job is if Lander or Kaufman committed. BIG BIG year. -
(2021) PG Khristian Lander to Western Kentucky U.
HoosierFan1994 replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
100% agree. I said this at the start of the offseason. I can't see Lander and Kaufman and others coming to IU after four straight years of missing the tournament. If they miss the tournament this year, it just tells you the roster isn't working. -

Deservedly so! Really surprised that some of the in-state players stock fell a bit. -
That's about normal right? Didn't Phinisee commit in late August and Armaan in early September?
-
Or great news in general. After the TJD committ and the Butler game it all went downhill from there. Brunk and Romeo getting drafted were the only positives. It has been rough!!!

I think Zion will be Blake Griffin 2.0. He will be an All-Star/All-NBA but not a Lebron/Durant like talent that ESPN thinks he will be. He is for sure on the down slope of his career. LeBron is still very good and is a top 5 player but he is not capable of carrying a team like he did most of his career. His original last two seasons in Cleveland (09 and 10) was incredible. On another note, I think the balance in the NBA is a good thing and it will help ratings. I don't think the Warriors run the last few seasons was good for the NBA. Why read a book or watch a movie when you know the ending? I am actually excited for the NBA playoffs next year, especially in the west. A lot of really good teams! I think people are sleeping on Boston, Utah, and Indiana.

Ed Schilling Leaving, Mike Roberts Arriving
HoosierFan1994 replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I am not enamored either. No way Kenny Johnson is being looked at. Jason Delaney could be a good fit for his in-state connections but that is what they said about Schilling too. Hard time of the year to find an assistant. -
Went over to one of the Lakers forum sites..good lord if you think we are bad at BTown Banners you should see their page!!! They analyze anything when it comes to Kawhi. I thought our Romeo thread was insane but this is another level.

Someone said it was cool for Archie to be in the green room and Dakich responded "he turned the #5 pick into #14". I think Jeff Rabjohns is pretty credible and he said no GM"s had Romeo in the top 5 before the season even started.
-
I'll put it this way: I had mostly positive things to say about him until that tweet last night. The only other tweet I didn't like was him whining about IU fans saying "we" when talking about the team...those fans who say "we" tune in to watch the IU basketball games that he so happens to call. That equals ratings. I didn't like him trashing the Assembly Call guys. They are awesome and fans just like us. However, I hit the unfollow button last night. Lost a lot of respect for him. I hope Archie never goes on his show anymore. Kudos to TJD for calling him out.

Someone said this earlier but Dan Dakich is exactly like Skip Bayless. They are both entertainers and say stuff to get people started (look at what Skip did referencing that fake account about James Harden). Dakich is great as an analyst but I will not listen to his radio show. I am convinced that he is bitter he didn't get the job in 2008. Someone needs to tell him his buddy Steve Alford had two McDonald's All-Americans get undrafted last night. Will Wade had one fall out as well. Heck, UNC had a player who was a top 5 pick fall to 25. Coach K had three top ten picks and didn't make the final four. Dakich is just reaching. Rabjohns, who I think is credible, claims NBA teams never had Romeo as a top 5 pick.

Romeo Langford - BCM Gravelines Dunkerque

If Boston can get a decent Free Agent I can see them being a top 3 team in the East. -

My money is on him to be the bust of the draft. Scouts don't have a lot of film on him. I thought he was a turnover machine as well.
