General Coach Candidate News

Has to know someone. Never made the tournament at Louisiana Tech. I mean he gets his team to the tournament but still. I felt one year they made a deep run on luck. -

Not to nit pick, but that's not really what he said. I'm not a Snow fan but he said that is what someone (same person he noted who told him Brad had a chance to come to IU) told him and that he wouldn't "take that as gospel". To me, there was really no information shared. I'm only on that site since they had a cheap deal lol But again, that's how I took it. I promise I'm not trying to come off as rude. -

True, but I think he was announced on Saturday the 25th? That's what I'm referring to. If it was announced on the 25th, the deal was probably finalized the 24th. Dayton's season ended I think in the first round that year (the Thur or Fri the week before). -

At the end of the day..I'm just going to let it play out. I know I sound like Dakich there but that's honestly how I feel after the last four years. Not that Crean was a huge success but I never thought he'd win two B1G titles and have us as a 1 seed two years after finishing dead last in the Big Ten. I thought Archie was going to be here for a long time. You just never know. Even with recruiting I thought Romeo was going to lead us to success. He's a good player, just not what we thought. I really don't want a Dane Fife or a Mike Woodson. But I'll give them a chance but at the same time be skeptical...IF they are the hire. You are right..a lot is recruiting the RIGHT players and building a culture. -

I was going to say the same thing....Them advancing hurts IU's chance at him. Best season they've had in 25 years. They'll likely be the favorite in the Sweet 16 and probably will play Baylor in the Elite 8. I'm pretty sure they have money too. He's one hell of a coach and I'd like for him to be at IU. -

I'll always appreciate your info but honestly I kind of like it that way. Leaves a lot of room to speculate and makes for a fun debate. I have no doubt he has a huge list but only probably 20% are realistic. I'm sure that's how it is with any big time job. That being said I still think that he had a list of 3-4 guys who showed interest via back channeling. There is no way that they got all this money together for the thought of you know who coming here. There had to be a plan B, C, and D just in case. -

I'm a believer too in right place, right time. Sometimes coaches may not want to leave the team they've built. Musselman started three freshman. Imagine when those guys become upperclassmen. IMO, IU's chances of getting him took a shot with them advancing. -

One trend I noticed about Beilein at West Virginia and Michigan...he led them to their best season in decades AND he left the program in much better shape as opposed to when he found it. If he's here five years, hopefully he has a team or two that can make a deep run in the tournament with a chance at a championship, wins a B1G or two, and leaves the program with a good foundation-that's a win. -

I would easily take him over Mike Woodson and Dane Fife. At least he makes the tournament. And they at least win a game when they are there. I just want a coach who will give Indiana a freaking chance...make the tournament and who knows what could happen. -

The more I think about it, I think Beilein is the fall back guy. I'm still of the opinion that Matta, Woodson, and even Beilein would be our coach right now if they were the top guys. I have no clue what you pay Beard. I don't think he deserves Coach K or Coach Cal money. That being said, I think it will have to be around 7 mil to get him to IU. May have to suck it up and pay him. -

Honestly, I'd probably take Steve Pikiell at this point. He turned freaking Rutgers around. -

I guess we can say Beard watch begins. I think IU hired Sampson about a week and a half after their season ended. Same with Crean. Archie was about a week spot on. If Beard is the guy, we will probably know within the next 7-10 days. If we get to Final Four weekend and this position is vacant I have no clue who it will be. I don't mind Scott Drew but I don't think he gets the job. -
I agree it’s silly. But maybe because they know everyone wanted Stevens. So let’s say if they get a Beard it’ll look way better now because “they were considering Woodson.”
-
Chris Beard. We all wanted you know who. But I think Beard is the consensus number two. Love his enthusiasm. I don't care about style. He wins. Hell, he has more wins over Purdue than Miller does!! ('16 and '18 NCAA Tournament). He gets in the tournament and does well. If they win today I think Tech is one of three active programs currently to make at least the Sweet 16 in three straight years.(Gonzaga and FSU if they win) Good chance if they win today that they make the Elite 8 and give Baylor a run. I personally am not expecting anything until a week after their season ends. If IU truly offered Stevens that kind of money as reported, they can give Beard a nice offer too. I can't predict if he will win a National Championship or not. But I think IU has a chance with him.

Also said what I think is true..IF it was Beilein, he would've been hired by now. I think it is all due diligence on Mike Woodson. That being said...if that's the hire...woof...

What an awesome day of basketball. I always want to see the B1G do well but good for Oral Roberts. That's what makes it fun. I know everyone wants to laugh at Purdue (me included) but in 2016 they had a young team and got bounced in the first round. The next 3 years they were a legit B1G contender and made it to the second weekend all three years. Gave the national champs all they could handle. I think it's the same situation here. A really young team but lots of talent. Indiana has a long way to catch them. Here's to another awesome day of hoops.

I'm not going to address what happened yesterday, but I find it hard to believe that the IU brass doesn't have a plan B or C or even D. I think it's one of these four.
-
1) Beard 2) Drew 3) Musselman 4) Beilein
