  1. Assembly Call guys said it best. They aren't going to go 4-24 every night. (IF they do we are in deep S**t) Let's say they went 7-24. Not great but that's 9 more points and this win looks a little better. The open looks were there. I think this will be around a 30-35% team from the 3 point line.
  2. I was at the game last night. Compared to the s-show from the 2017 opener I went to, I'm just thankful they won. A few things: 1) Thought the crowd wasn't bad given the circumstances (6 eastern tip off, masks/pandemic could turn people away, and we've been awful the last 5 years.). Students showed up. 2) Woodson's calm demeanor surprised me. I'm sure he had a lot of emotions. Not saying that is a bad thing. I'm sure we will see him get fired up. 3) Not impressed with the offense. Listening to coach I'm not surprised. He warned us ahead of time. Defense wasn't bad. That guard for EM hit some tough shots. 4) Parker and Miller have to get more than 7 combined 3 point attempts. TJD was what we all expected. Race and Xavier were kind of how I envisioned. Rob, Jordan, and Tamar gave solid minutes off the bench. But if this team is going to be as good as everyone thought Parker and Miller have to be more involved. Would've rather seen them get the shots Phinisee and Thompson took. 5) Lander playing isn't a surprise to me. He didn't see a lot of action in the Bahamas. Woodson even said this is a learning year for him. I just hope he buys into what coach is selling. The last 10 minutes was disappointing. That shouldn't happen. They had this game won. Keep your foot on the gas pedal. You can tell the energy level was gone after the 20 point lead. I think we will see a better effort against NIU.
  3. Durr is in street clothes. Bates looks like he is playing.
  4. I will be there! Can't wait...last time I went to the debut of an Indiana coach it didn't turn out so well.....I still have bad memories from Indiana State. Hoping tomorrow erases that. I went with my now wife (as many of you know a diehard UK fan) to the ISU game. Going with my dad who is an IU fan. I'm convinced she brought bad luck...lol A few things I'm interested in: 1) Energy- I hope the players play with more enthusiasm than we've seen the last 4 years. The last two times I've seen a game at Assembly Hall (Indiana State and NIT Wichita State) the energy has been AWFUL. Usually going to a game is fine but it was miserable. Give the crowd something to cheer about. Assembly Hall was rocking when I went to see IU in 09 against Northwestern State. It's possible against a low-major. 2) Rotation Spots- Starters are Xavier, Parker, Kopp, TJD, Race. Have think based on the Bahamas trip that Tamar (if he plays tomorrow) is your 6th man and Geronimo and Phinisee aren't far behind minutes wise. I saw Woody say he would prefer to play 10 guys. Have to think Durr takes one of the remaining spots due to his size and experience. I'm sure early on Duncomb will see minutes if Durr is out. Question is who gets the most minutes between Lander, Galloway, and Leal? Right now I'd bet Galloway but we will see. Unfortunately think two of those three will be unhappy with their minutes. I'm not sure where my expectations are for this team. I can see them as high as 3 or as low as 6 in the B1G IMO. I expect this team to make the tournament and have a realistic chance of winning a game. I think they are a Top 25 caliber team. Are they a second weekend team? Final Four? IDK. But I'm impressed with how this roster has improved since last year. You have a legit All-American, POY in Trayce. If a couple of guys can be All-B1G good, watch out. My best bet would be Xavier and Race.

Sam Story had an interesting tweet about this. Not sure how “in the know” he is.

    Major announcement?

I hope he can make it to Coach Woodson's first game next Tuesday. Would be awesome to see him there in person.

    Practice differences under Woody

After a busy spring and a 5 month break on here I am back and ready to go for the season! I will be there in person on November 9th for Woody's debut. I was unfortunately present for Archie's so I hope this one goes better. I'm holding off on crazy expectations this year. However, I do think the culture is changing. The Bahamas trip was a pretty good idea.

    2021 Minutes Per Game

Update after the Michael Durr commitment. 1. TJD 2. Johnson 3. Stewart 4. Kopp 5. Geronimo 6. Bates 7. Phinisee 8. Durr 9. Lander 10. Thompson- Side note...I'm glad Race is coming back but I am stunned he didn't transfer. I think his role will be similar to his role in 19-20..13mpg 11. Galloway 12. Leal 13. Duncomb- Hoping IU redshirts him. Don't get me wrong, he's a solid player but I don't think he sees much playing time this year unless there is a major frontcourt injury. TJD and Durr ahead of him at the 5. Race can play small ball 5. I wish IU would redshirt players more often. I think it's good. I would rather get four major impact years from Logan than 3 major impact years. Just don't think he sees more than 5 or so minutes a game. Bottom line..I'm pretty certain the top 6 will be accurate. I think spots 7-10 will be game by game and situation by situation. Lander may see close to 20 minutes one game and maybe 5-10 the next. A lot will depend on practice too. This is a good problem to have.
  9. Surprised we got him. I personally love it. Every team needs frontcourt depth. So far IU has TJD, Race, Durr, and Duncomb. Geronimo will see time at the 4. Kopp at times too. I don't think Michael will play the same role he had at USF. I'm thinking he will be the first big man off the bench, around 15 MPG. Really interested in seeing Race's role. He is the wild card to me. I'm not sure what his role will be.

    2021 Minutes Per Game

It does feel weird but when you look at the overall talent on the team, I don't think Rob and Race are playing starting caliber minutes. I know a lot of you dislike him, but Dakich always said that outside of TJD and Franklin, nobody else on IU's roster last year would start on most B1G teams. Lander has to improve dramatically to get more minutes. I see improvement, but he has a loooooong way to go. I think what gets me excited about this year is there are proven veteran additions coming in that will play big minutes (Johnson, Kopp, and Stewart). Getting a borderline 5 start player also is pretty nice. I think some games Bates may start if IU wants to go small. It all depends on the matchup and that is how it should be.

haha I am a Dallas fan...there were always these rumors about Earl Thomas going to Dallas. I think Keion is our ET!

    IUBB 2021 General Off-Season Thread

Right now I feel these will be the two best lineups for IU Option 1 Johnson/Bates/Stewart/Kopp/TJD Option 2 Johnson/Stewart or Bates/Kopp/Geronimo/TJD This is based on the current roster as we speak. I'm not taking into account major improvement (ex: Race's shooting ability or Lander overall as a player) It's obvious they will add another player who could potentially play a lot. I'm trying not to think of a "starting lineup" but more so of rotations that work. I think we may see different lineups from game to game (which is good IMO).

Not too surprising...clearly they are going after someone else. On another note, that '18 class is probably the most disappointing since "The Movement".

I think as soon as CJ Fredrick transfers to UK, this happens. They don't play the same position but that probably bumps Keion to the bench at UK. I have a feeling they start Oscar and the freshman Collins at the 4 and 5 spots. Keion I think would be a very a good addition. He's not as bad as some think . He would start obviously. I'm just not on high on him as I was two years ago. Hypothetically looking at the depth chart if this happens, minute wise this would hurt Hunter but I think in a way it hurts Lander's minutes too. Think the lineup would be Johnson, Stewart, Kopp, Brooks, TJD. Rob and Bates IMO are the top two guards off the bench. I think Lander is really going to be on himself this offseason and get better.

    Next Season’s Expectations

My crack at the rotation. Asterisk means they can handle the ball and play the 1. 1: Johnson (can play the 2)/Lander 2: Bates*/Phinisee*/Leal (can play the 3) 3: Stewart* (can play the 2)/Geronimo (Can play the 4)/Galloway (can play the 2) 4: Kopp (can play the 3)/Hunter (can play the 3) 5: Jackson-Davis/Thompson/Duncomb I think what makes this team go from really good to elite is if Trayce or Race can play the 4 and hit the three ball. I think Johnson, Bates, Stewart, Kopp, and Jackson-Davis see the most minutes with Rob and Race not too far behind. The rest of the minutes left will be up for competition I think. One game Lander may see 20 minutes and maybe 10 the next game. Duncomb may see big minutes if our bigs get into foul trouble. Really like this team. Starting to think this is a second weekend NCAA Tournament team. I think the key with this team is minutes. Not necessarily who starts but who is in the game when it matters most.

    Next Year’s Roster

Our house is rough when UK loses haha. When they lost to UE a few years ago and Auburn in the Elite 8...woof. Thankfully she pretty much gave up hope in December this year and we didn't have to watch them. Unfortunately IU wasn't much better.

    Next Year’s Roster

Haven't been as active on here the last few days. Wife and I welcomed our baby girl into this world this morning! I am super pumped about the addition of Tamar and Miller. I think both have a massive impact on the team next year. Tamar is a steal. I think he can be this teams best player in a few seasons. Miller is the kind of player IU has needed lately. I'll see how the dominoes fall in the B1G but I really do think IU has a chance next year to be very good. I think for now the IU news is going to slow down. I have a big recruiting battle of my own-my wife is a UK fan. Going to have to convince by daughter to root for IU!!!

    Next Season’s Expectations

Hoosier Hysteria is how many days away? Seriously going to be fun. Don’t want to get too crazy but this feels like a top 20 team right now. Ceiling is high for this team. My lineup right now: Johnson Bates Stewart Kopp Jackson-Davis Rob and Race first off the bench. Minutes will be a dog fight after that. Love it.
  20. Wouldn’t worry about that. Baylor played small ball. Vital was their four and he’s 6’5ish I think. Eventually Woodson will get a roster full of 6’6 to 6’8 guys at the 3 and 4 spots.

(2021) SG Tamar Bates to INDIANA

Wow! I did not expect this. Massive get for Woodson and the staff. I would not fall out of my chair if this kid starts next year. He will see quality minutes right away.

Nice! I assume he starts next year if he's at IU?

    Player decisions

100%. But it's fun to speculate and see where the roster is at. I feel they are going to add another guy that will be a top 3 or 4 player on this team.
  24. HoosierFan1994

    Player decisions

I was laughed at for having a three guard line up. If Woody wants to play 6'6-6'8 guys at the 3-4 spots like most of us assume, someone won't see as many minutes. I feel the top three guards are Xavier, Parker, and Rob. I think Xavier and Parker see the most minutes. Rob is still going to have a massive role. Probably the first guard off the bench. I just don't think he plays as much as years past.
  25. HoosierFan1994

    Player decisions

Just a fun guess on the roles our guys will have: Starters Xavier, Parker, and TJD. Question marks on the last two spots. Trayce should be a Preseason All-American and a favorite for the NCAA POY. Xavier and Parker could have All-B1G potential. Bigger Role Geronimo and Lander. Otherwise I think they both transfer. Not sure they are starters but I think they see at least 15 minutes a game. Decreased Role/Youth Leal, Galloway, and Duncomb. Of those three Trey probably sees the most minutes with Duncomb second. Leal and Galloway are all for the program (stated they were staying no matter what when FCAM was fired) so I think both are fine with a year of a lesser role. Dumcomb will see minutes but I think TJD and Race see the most minutes at the 5. Question Marks Phinisee, Hunter, and Thompson. All three have a role at this moment. Rob's started for three years. But does Woody throw a 6'1 guard out there with 6'3 Johnson and 6'5 Stewart? Eh, not as a starter. Maybe a 6th man role. Hunter is probably projected as a starter right now. Has ideal size. That being said I can see the staff bringing in a more talented 4. Not sure he sticks around because he would probably see less minutes than he did a year ago. As for Race, he has to develop a three point shot. Same obviously goes for Trayce but obviously he has more strengths to his game than Race. I can't see the staff throwing both Race and Trayce out there if one of them isn't a three point threat. As of right now, neither is. I think Race would be a lot like Rob, perfect off the bench. As for the last two spots, I see a 4 and a 6'5ish guard who can come off the bench and knock some threes down. My "wild card" to start next year is Geronimo. Not impossible if he improves. My predictions Starting 5: Johnson, Stewart, Geronimo, Transfer 4, TJD Bench: Phinisee, Thompson, Lander, Transfer or Fr. SG (6'4 to 6'6) Plays Sparingly or as needed: Galloway, Duncomb, Leal If my predictions are true I unfortunately don't see Hunter staying. I hope I am wrong. But again, I think somebody is going to be unhappy. Just not sure who.
