IUBB @ Iowa - Thursday, 1/5/23 @ 9:00 on FS1

Fran McCaffrey is a tool and that should have been a T. IU also had zero business being down under a minute to go after leading by 21 points . Both are true. It's unacceptable. -

Bingo. I can see a bunch of teams finishing 13-7 for a 4 way tie for league champ. I'm sorry, I don't think Purdue is as good as people think. Top 15-20 team yes. Not number one. I think they'll come back down to earth shortly. I think the freshman (who have been impressive) will start to play like freshman. Next 4 games will be telling @ Iowa-game Indiana can win if they come ready to play Northwestern-Should win @ Penn State- Better than people thought Wisconsin-Can IU finally beat them? Right now Wisconsin is probably the 2nd best team in the B1G. I'd put us at 3 or 4. Let's see where things are heading into February. Conference season will be 1/2 over with by then. If IU is 7-4 in league play I like their chances to still win the B1G. -

I hope he starts next game. I think he's earned it. Not the best on defense. Plus, I like Galloway off the bench. He's a perfect 6th man. We will see about Race. I just wish Geronimo would be more consistent. -

I'm younger and I hated it too lol. If it was a B1G game against somebody good go for it. But it's Kennesaw State. That being said Tamar is getting there. -

That's the problem. Malik's hit a wall. My goodness. I'd like for it to be Jordan but he's so undersized. Just think something else has to work. -

I'd like to see a change in starting lineup. JHS Bates Kopp maybe Geronimo and TJD. Won't ever happen. Feel like Woody is obligated to play Race. -

1) Settles needs to call more games. I thought he was awesome. I felt like I was learning something while he talked. 2) I hope IU found something on offense. I don't think clogging the lane with Race/Trayce is going to work. I like Race Thompson a lot. Just not sure he's a starter. 3) It's Kennesaw State, but I hope Tamar Bates is starting to come along. I really like his shot. I feel like when he shoots it's going in. 4) Turnovers are starting to scare me a bit. Much needed rest for the team. Sounds like they're off for a few days then a week plus of practice. Hope this is what the team needs. Trayce should be rested up. Gives the staff time to make adjustments hopefully. -
Not sure I agree with that especially early on. That team was a disappointment early on. They were #13 early. Terrible Maui trip. Bad loss at Duke. I know they had a comeback against Notre Dame in Indy that sort of turned things around. For me, it wasn't until they beat Purdue that I thought that team was special. Point is, let's see how these guys respond. If they start the B1G season slow, then yes. However, I kept hearing how deep this team was. Time for them to prove it.
-
Yes. Another good one. I remember that year too. I think this team has the ability to rise.
-
Would be awesome if he can return for Purdue game (February 4).
-
Says 6 weeks to several months to heal. I guess it really depends on how bad it was and how it heals. Likely won't know anything for awhile.
-
Not comparing the two players but the situation..what was the mood when JBJ got hurt for the 2015 season? Was probably IU's 2nd leading scorer. Team wasn't ranked and had kind of underachieved. Bottom line: season's not over. Team has to step up. It does sound like he could return at some point in February.
-
I've seen 8 weeks just based on google. That puts him back around the week of February 13. Last 6 B1G games of the season.

IUBB vs Elon - Tuesday, 12/20/22 @ 7:00 on BTN
HoosierFan1994 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Saw Woodson say something during his postgame presser as if some guys weren't playing as hard as they should. If so, sit them. The starting 5 came out so flat outside of Kopp. They looked like zombies. Just hope this team can figure it out. Still believe in this roster. -

Don't know how to feel about this game. Did what they're supposed to do. 1) Bates' defense is awful. He's got to be better. I really like his shot. But too many times tonight he got beat. 2) I'm to the point if this team comes out flat against Iowa, throw Duncomb, Banks, or Gunn in there at times. Thought those three really gave energy when needed. The starting 5 outside of Kopp came out so flat. 3) I know there are so many minutes to go around but I wish Malik could've had more minutes tonight. This is the kind of game to get his confidence back up. Who cares about his fouls tonight. Let him play. 4) Hope JG is okay. Don't need anymore injuries. One more game then a nice break for the team. I still can't get a read on X's injury. I'll assume he's out until further notice. -
How far away is IUBB from being elite again?

Amanda is awesome for all she does for the HTP but I thought the post was kind of off and I didn't agree with it. Assembly Hall will be rocking if this team wins. I've been to lots of big sporting events (AFC Championship game, PGA Championship, Big Ten Tournament, MLB Playoff game). By far the coolest was UNC-IU a few weeks ago. No other venue in college basketball can top that. Not up for a debate. Now, against bad teams the place is usually dead but it was rocking for the opener against Morehead State. I wish they had programs again or some kind of roster to pass out for fans. Have no clue who is who for the other team. Not saying IU can't improve things, I think they can. But still, that place is rocking when we have a respectable team. We haven't had many in the last 20-25 years. -
Yep. I'm not ready to hit the panic button yet. For me, the most telling game of this season will be at Iowa in a few weeks. Lots of time off for the guys to adjust to new roles and what not. Plus, Iowa is a solid team. If IU can win that game, I feel good about this team going forward. If not, they are probably a .500 team in the B1G.
-
They're all meaningless once they step foot on the court. What I'm trying to say is many of us had high expectations for him. Not calling him a bust, but it's time for him to step up.
-
Hope X is able to come back sooner rather than later. However, I plan on him being out for a good part of B1G season. For me, time for Tamar Bates to step up. Was a top 30 recruit out of high school. Was also a top pick for breakout player of the year. He's had his ups and downs. Need him to be consistent.

How far away is IUBB from being elite again?
HoosierFan1994 replied to southernindianahoosier2's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
More I think about it...7 of the 13 scholarship players were first recruited to IU by the previous coach. Two of our 3 assistants were hired by him as well. Do we think that could be part of the problem? 2017-2021 was the worst 4 year stretch of IU basketball in a long time. I'm not saying Woody should've cleaned the house completely. But I feel when the majority of your players/coaches are from the previous staff two years removed...that's not a good thing. We still have no consistent shooter. -

HoosierFan1994 replied to southernindianahoosier2's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Add in the fact that Xavier Johnson will likely miss significant time..I don't see them being a top two team in the Big Ten after that. I don't want to be negative at all, but that's the truth. Jalen is awesome but who else is going to step up? Tamar can't play Jackson State every game. I agree with you. Indiana is a good team this year. But not elite. I thought after Xavier and UNC they could be. Rutgers, Arizona, and Kansas proves otherwise. Take Tennessee and Arizona game currently going on. No matter who wins those are two elite teams. It's a competitive game. Elite teams don't get spanked three teams in a two week span. I could maybe understand once. But it's alarming now. -

That's what frustrates me with IU. I just feel nobody gets extremely better. Take the Harris kid from Kansas. He was maybe their 5th/6th best player last year. I felt he was their second best player today. -

I've been really disappointed in his play of late. Ever since UNC he's been a no show. I hope he figures it out. He was a monster early on. Even against a bigger team in Xavier. -

Today was upsetting. I thought we had passed this in our program. No excuse for what happened today. I really don't think Kansas is all that good either. I left Assembly Hall on November 30th thinking this was a national championship contender. What the heck has happened in the last 17 days. 1) I like Trayce Jackson-Davis but he's going back to the old Trayce before the Big Ten Tournament last year. He's got to start showing up in these big games. He's our best player. 2) I hate it for X. If it is a broken foot I bet it's mid February when he's back. Just not good for this team. Why this team doesn't have a third point guard...that's on the staff. Let's hope Jalen can hold it down... 3) This team has been punked the last three games away from Assembly Hall. That's unacceptable. At this point it's on the coaching staff as much as the players. 4) Do we have the right players? I thought we did but I am starting to second guess this. 7 of our 13 scholarship guys were recruited to IU by Miller. Not saying the Woodson guys don't deserve blame but this roster just has so many holes. I remember Phillips from Assembly Call wrote an article calling this the deepest IU team we've seen in a while. I replied about how it's too early for that. It appears so. 5) Really upsetting IU fans are going all over to support this country to support this team. And the team lays an egg. Not time to hit the panic button at all but getting close if they get off to a slow start in B1G play. Woodson can't afford to have a letdown year after expectations. Expectation was this team could compete for a B1G title and make a run in March. Not looking like it as of late. -

Same. It's the NFL and college hoops for me anymore. Don't have time/care about the other sports. Anyway, I like our chances today. Jalen is playing. Feel the home court advantage goes down a tiny bit with no students there. Seems like a good IU crowd is there. I still think Kansas pulls out a close one. However, if Indiana can pull this off, they would have defeated the two teams who played in the title game last year. Add the Xavier win and that would be a heck of a resume thus far. Let's get it done!
