RIP Coach Knight
HoosierFan1994 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Per Rick Bozich...Coach Knight has been hospitalized since last Friday. A letter went out to former players to pray for coach. They hope he is home soon. -
I do applaud the staff so far. I feel like they're going all in the transfer portal. Sounds like Adam Howard has been getting a ton of credit for their organization and knowing who to contact and when. Now, they gotta land these guys. But if they can get a few more of the top transfers in addition to Sparks (Love, Shedrick, Battle or Ledlum) this team can compete. I have no idea where it would stand in the National Landscape but they'd be top 4 in the B1G easily.
-
What's Gates going to say..."You are the missing piece to us beating Princeton". Nothing against him, I just think IU would be a really good fit for him. I'd like to see IU go after a true 3. I think Battle/Ledlum are 4's.
-
If it's really between IU and Mizzou, I see the only reason to choose Mizzou is that it's closer to home. I don't think they could beat IU in NIL.
-
He probably called him Corey Love..lol I kid. We will see what happens
-
Breaking: per Rabjohns, Woodson had the cat filter on the Zoom with Caleb Love. We've now lost Caleb. This will go down in IU recruitment lore with Crean/Kyrie Irving.
-
I think I agree with you. It sounds as if it's between IU and Mizzou. Sounds like he won't be visiting any campus which makes sense.
-
LOL is he going to Augusta?
-
Let's get this done Woody! I'm not sure Caleb would even visit campus since he's been here before..Again, as I've said sign me up. IU needs upside and you need dudes. I think Caleb is the kind of player IU has lacked.
-
Saw this on Twitter. Dude who wrote it has been a journalist for 15 years and lists North Carolina basketball as a passion. Maybe he's in the know...Could be nothing. ..could be something. Could be just a headline click bait. Close to me tells me IU is 1st and Goal at the 5 yard line. https://www.basketballinsiders.com/news/former-unc-five-star-recruit-caleb-love-close-to-joining-indiana-hoosiers/

A X/Love backcourt is good enough to win the B1G. Add in Ledlum to go with Reneau and maybe Shedrick. Would like to see them add another wing.
-
Sorry, but sign me up for an Xavier Johnson/Caleb Love backcourt. IF it does happen. I think these are the kind of guys that IU/ the Big Ten has been lacking.
-
I think he's hinting at Love..we will see. I'll believe it when I see it. Ledlum wouldn't make sense with a visit next week.
-
Sounds the staff does too. Again, I'm all happy they're getting really good frontcourt players (Malik, Sparks, possibly Ledlum and Shedrick). However, they need a guard/wing. I think multiple ones. Unless Jalen is coming back which is really truly insane for him to do. I'll say this..if Galloway/Cupps are the two guards off the bench I think we will have a pretty good team. It makes sense to really stock up on frontcourt guys. Just Malik was coming back. Banks..ehh we will see what he becomes.

Thing I find most insane about the portal..the kids who were highly ranked like Bates or even top 100 guys like Duncomb/Geronimo are leaving. Meanwhile guys who weren't highly ranked out of high school are coming in and most likely upgrades. I know Sparks. Ledlum was a borderline top 100 guy. Battle wasn't. Makes me wonder..who ranks the rankers? I think a big reason has to be the spring of 2020 there was no evaluation period and that screwed things up. Feels like there have been more misses than ever. There isn't a single top 30 recruit in the Final Four. I tease my father in law (UK Fan) to pump the breaks on their recruiting class...rankings mean nothing anymore IMO.
-
Got it. Wonder if it's a race to who commits first. Not sure if I have a preference.
-
Could Battle/Ledlum play together (Battle at the 3/Ledlum at the 4)?
-
Going to be hard to beat Pitino but next year might be rough for St. John's unless Pitino gets all the top guys. I think Ledlum has one year left and he will want to go to a good team. Even though our outlook looks meh right now that could change soon.
-
I'll take him or Battle at the 4. With all due respect to Race, but both would be upgrades, which is what we need.
-
Looking at the list of guys IU is going after IMO IU (IF they are serious about being very good next year) HAS to land one of: Knecht, Love, or Reeves. Or another top 50 guard/wing that enters the portal such as a Johnell Davis. I'll take Battle but he's more of a 4 right?
-
Good. Zero reason IU can't land at least some of these top guys!

Indiana Players Now In The Portal
HoosierFan1994 replied to Chris007's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I wish Jordan the best. Sucks it just didn't work out here. I can actually see him doing well at a place like Providence. -
I'm with you. Shedrick and Sparks help our frontcourt. But they have a long way to go before I'm pleased. I'll take guys like Love, Timberlake, Reeves, Ledlum, Knecht, etc. They need backcourt help (Mainly 2's and 3's bad). IF IU is in the top 10-15 in NIL, then I expect them to land a few of these dudes. I'll be extremely upset if they don't to be honest. There is no excuse they can't. 2-3 starting spots up to grab. X and Malik IMO are the only guys I'd label starters. Sorry, Galloway is a reserve on a really good team.

Ball State Transfer C Payton Sparks to Indiana and back to Ball State
HoosierFan1994 replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
IU Really needs the last part...I'm not sure they've had many gym rats over the last decade. I'm excited for Payton. I know he will have an impact the next few years! That being said, staff still has unfinished business in the portal. -

Wish Tamar the best but this was best for both sides involved. IF he stayed I'm afraid Woody would feel obligated to play him.
