2023-24 Pre-season Practices and Development
HoosierFan1994 replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Thanks for sharing this. I somehow missed it. Can't wait for this season. Lot of questions marks but I trust this staff. Lot of talent on this roster. If all the pieces fit, this could be a top ten caliber team. -
(2024) - PG Boogie Fland to Kentucky
HoosierFan1994 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
If Jasper will reclassify to 2024, that helps with Boogie. The one thing I've read is Kentucky isn't all in on Boogie, which makes no sense. I guess he is option 2 for them. Hope he at least waits until after Hoosier Hysteria. -

Part of me wondered if that is why they got him. He will probably be the biggest recruit there so why not get who he likes. In Woodson I trust with the last visit. Worked out pretty well for us with Ware, Mgbako, and Liam (I assume?). -

If he still is planning on taking a visit to IU they have a chance to be the last one. Article made it seem like a decision around Halloween was in play. If that's the case, maybe Hoosier Hysteria? Hope he likes Gucci Mane. -

The positive news in the last 24 hours with Liam and Boogie just about make up for my Cowboys laying an egg in Arizona. Hope we can finish this! -
The Almanac came out this morning. I think it's a must for all big college basketball fans. I don't always agree with everything on it. However, they have previews for every team, conference picks, and rankings for the top players, transfer, freshman, etc. They are high on Mackenzie. They have him as the #3 Freshman to watch this year. Overall they aren't as high on IU, like the rest of the media. They have them as a 9 seed.

(2024) - Liam McNeeley to UConn
HoosierFan1994 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I know some of you don't like them, but the Hysterics are about to have a live space on Twitter (or X) about Liam. Sometimes they have really good info. I won't be able to listen live but I will later. -

You are probably right. I've followed IU recruiting pretty closely since Crean took over. I can't remember them being in on this many legit players this close to the end of their recruitments: Liam (top 15) Queen (top 15) Boogie (top 20) Annor (top 30) Givens (Top 60) I think Liam will make his decision soon (I'll be stunned if it's not IU to be honest). Queen will probably be sometime next month closer to the season. Boggie IU will probably have to wait that one out. Not sure on Annor but I know he is visiting soon so it's possible he makes a decision before the season. Real exciting time! My guess for fun: IU Lands Liam, Queen, and eventually Boogie. -

Correct me if I'm wrong because I wasn't as invested in the '23 class...but our staff didn't put this much effort in last year did they? Not until Mackenzie. I remember that being a huge talking point a year ago. Sounds like it's been addressed. -

Have to think a decision is coming soon for Liam. Obviously love our chances here. Best part is when he commits I think it not only increases the chances with Queen but Boogie as well. -
September 8-10th. A Really Big Recruiting Weekend
HoosierFan1994 replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
How I've felt since June. If Liam is the first one you have to think IU becomes the favorite with Queen. One thing we can all trust this staff with, we know they are going full court press on a commitment this weekend. I see Liam as a 2-3 year guy and Queen as a 3-4 year player. Both are two of your major building blocks to becoming a National Title Contender. -
September 8-10th. A Really Big Recruiting Weekend
HoosierFan1994 replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Major major weekend for the future of IU hoops. Sounds like IU is certainly the favorite for Liam. Would be surprised if he commits after the visit. Sounds like he wants to take the Texas visit and announce right before the season. I know the staff will do all they can to get him this weekend. The sooner he commits, the better I feel about Queen. Sounds like IU is up there with Houston and Maryland for him. Houston actually worries me a little more than Maryland in that battle. Not sure about Givens. Wonder if he is just there to visit with his teammates. I know he had IU in his top 7. He's certainly a take but obviously the #1 option is Fland who is likely to visit. The thing I'm most happy about is this staff's ability to get guys to campus. Offers are great. Visiting them at their school/home is great. But, you have to get them on campus. I saw a stat where this '24 class is by far the most top 50 visits IU has had pretty much ever in the rankings era. I feel you HAVE to at least get 2-3 of these guys. Liam is a start. Potentially add Queen with another guard in this class and you have to feel good. Hope guys like Banks/Gunn/Reneau can take a huge step forward and become a nice veteran core with this group next year. -
2023 SF/PF Mackenzie Mgbako to INDI-F’N-ANA

Early on might be a struggle with playing UConn, possibly Texas, Auburn, and Kansas. However, I think by January this team will look good. -

I've said the same thing as you. I think Malik, Mack, and Kel'el will work. The staff wouldn't have put them together if they didn't feel it wouldn't work. -
Pretty much. They introduced the men's team and the assistants/staff that were there. Then did some fan contests. I felt going in that it was more for the men's team but that was just me. We were super pumped to get Holmes autograph.

IMO it's overblown. Peegs version of our Chris basically said both the men and women's program are embarrassed it got put out on Twitter as a big deal. The lady who runs the ticket project got mad because they did not recognize the women's team during the short event. They were there for the autograph/pictures but were sitting courtside. I guess some people got in Eric and Ward's faces after the event. I didn't see it as I went to the autograph lines. Kind of embarrassing. Should they have mentioned them? Probably. It's important to keep in mind the NCAA completely made them change the event. But getting in their faces after the event and going on a Twitter rant isn't the way to make that point. I know the women had their team camp today and it looks like it had a good turnout.

Solid event! We got the whole team to sign the poster except for Leal, Sparks, and Newton. I wasn't the biggest Hysteric fan years ago but I enjoy their IU interviews and they were nice when we met them. As personalities go, Anthony Walker, Malik, Kaleb, and CJ are probably the best ones on the team. Since they couldn't scrimmage they did some fun things like re-creating the Wat-Shot. They chose a few fans but finally Watford himself was able to knock it in. Calbert got the biggest ovation of the night. Overall a really good event for us diehards. I'd like to go every year just to have them sign the team poster. That alone is worth the price of admission. Also, it's never a bad day when you get to go to Nick's and Assembly Hall.

Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff
HoosierFan1994 replied to Hoosierfan1901's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm all on board with the raise. So far, he's exceeded my expectations. Bozich had a really solid article about how now it's time for the next step. Big year ahead. -
Question for those who have been..do they have photos for players/coaches to sign like at Huber's or do you need to bring something for players to sign.
-
Still looking forward to this as well. Maybe it will be better as it might be more time to meet the players and coaches.

2024 General Recruiting Thread (BBall)
HoosierFan1994 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Mustaf announcing September 14. IU is in his top 6 along with Maryland, Florida State, NC State, Georgia Tech, and Arkansas. I haven't heard much since his visit in June. Feel like we have a good chance but wouldn't think we are the favorite with Fland and Harper recruitment still going on. -

I have to agree with you. Don't want to say it's a must but you need to start getting commitments before the season starts. Yes, this would open the door with Queen and Fland. -

Have things cooled off between Mustaf and IU? Noticed he was 8 on the ITH Hot Board they put out this last week. He was top 5. -

Agree. I know we heard this a lot with the previous coaching staff, but I trust Woodson. Hope I'm wrong on CJ and he is able to play a significant role off the bench. If he can average 5-6 points a game and shoot in the high 30's on threes, that will be big. Eric (one of the Hysterics) has said for quite some time that he would not expect much out of Jakai this year. Hope that's not the case. Some people believe his injury is one of those where it takes him awhile to return to his normal self.
