2019-2020 Basketball Schedule
TXHoosierDaddy replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Those last four non-con games all seem like toss-ups to me. And we usually find a way to lose one we are not supposed to in the non-con. With this being a younger team, I wouldn't be surprised to be in a tight game with a Princeton or SDSU. I think best case is 2 losses (Wisky, Fla St) -
I saw a video of a lot of the players hanging out at the pool/bbq'ing over the weekend. Definitely the freshman (Franklin, TJD) as well as Davis and Hunter for sure. This stuff goes a long way in that chemistry you speak of. We might have had lots of talent in 2013 and 2016 but you could tell those teams were very close.

IU Baseball: NCAA Tournament With Short Ride to Louisville

2019 decommit from CWS team Texas Tech. Big time recruit that Mercer and staff are in on. Have to love what this staff is doing. Our lineup next year could be downright scary as he would likely slot in right away like Vecrumba. -

Walker hit .210 and although showed promise at times, we shouldn't have an issue replacing him especially with the two JUCO infielders we brought in. Actually there is probably a good chance one of those guys would have beat him out anyways so maybe he saw the writing on the wall. -
Thanks for sharing. Nice to see a number of IU signees in here Avery Short likely would have been a Friday night starter. When Lemo left he decommited and signed with Lville. However, he got drafted high by the DBacks and signed a minor league contract. Never was going to come to IU so that makes me feel better since he would have been an impact guy from day 1.

Very true. Just hoping we improve on the contact rates, which I have faith we will. -

Thanks, updated! I originally had Vecrumba 3. I could see that. -

Just for a fun a look at our lineup and pitching staff for next year. Will admit I don't know much about the incoming players outside of Vecrumba being the freshman with the best chance to contribute probably followed by Sharp but I'm not really accounting for much else since it's all a bit of a guessing game. Also, have an impact grad transfer bat in Fucci. SP's: Gabe Bierman (Friday) Tommy Sommer (Saturday) Reese Sharp (Sunday) Key Relievers: Connor Manous Cal Krueger Braden Scott Grant Sloan Lineup Drew Ashley - 2B Grant Richardson - OF Cole Barr - OF Elijah Dunham - OF Ethan Vecrumba - OF Jake Fucci - IB Skrine - dH Justin Walker - SS Jeff Holtz/Hunter Combs - C -
It's one thing to troll the fans but its another to spill negativity towards the coach and team, which is what he has done so much of since Archie and not Alford was hired. Clearly sour grapes all the way. I wish we would ban him from doing games in AH. He doesn't deserve it with how much bashing he does of the program on social media.

Yep Dakich would have had a bigger field day than he already did. Apparently, he posted a tweet saying Romeo should have been top 5 but dropped to 14 because of IU....something to that effect and then deleted it right afterwards. The trolling would have been unreal. Funny Alford didn't really help Wilkes stock at all the guy Dan wanted so badly here.

The rules are still incredibly ambiguous and ever changing. In summary, here it is. I believe it also pertains to kids that did hire an agent and were invited to the NBA combine. It will be interesting to see how many kids take advantage of it. Draft: Eligible athletes can return for college play if they notify their athletics director of their intent to do so by 5 p.m. the Monday following the draft. Officials said they anticipate a small number of players would actually take advantage of the new draft rules, but they are unsure of how many yet. Generally, players who are undrafted are unable to return to college play; many go on to play for the NBA’s minor league or overseas. https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2018/08/09/new-ncaa-rules-allow-mens-basketball-players-have-agents-return-college-if-undrafted

So many guys entered this draft and went undrafted. Doubt any develop when another year of college could have helped at least half of these guys. Glad they will be changing the rules soon. The list of undrafted underclassmen: Lungentz Dort, Jalen Lecque, Jontay Porter, Louis King, Zach Norvell, Dedrick Lawson, Naz Reid, Simmi Shittu, Kenny Wooten, Kris Wilkes...plenty more just some of the more recognizable recruits and names to this board.

That's huge. Got offered a 500k+ signing bonus. Still waiting on another recruit Reese Sharp - drafted by the Giants in the 28th round. Would bet he comes to IU. -

How about the fact we only seem in on one top 50 kid? Again, not all about rankings but its just surprising. -

New Rivals rankings out: https://n.rivals.com/prospect_rankings/rivals150/2020 #79 Matt Cross # 104 RJ Davis #112 Anthony Leal (down 22 spots) Galloway - NR #38 - Dawson Garcia #69 - Zach Loveday (down 15 spots) Rankings don't mean everything but this is pretty underwhelming...hope again that we can grab another grad transfer guard or pull a rabbit out of a hat somewhere. -
Rich get richer. KU adds Mich recruit Jalin Wilson https://www.mlive.com/wolverines/2019/06/former-michigan-basketball-signee-jalen-wilson-chooses-kansas.html?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=wolverines_sf They and UK are absolutely loaded with Mich St. bringing back quite a bit of talent as well.

Not sure I agree with the bulleted part just based on this year. Do I indeed think Mercer is a better developer of talent than Lemonnis, absolutely. But its hard to read into one year and give all the credit to Mercer. Most of the bats actually were worse this year than last. Gorski hit .356 last year almost 90 points better than last year. Lloyd hit for better average last year just had more power this time around. Bradley hit 50 points higher last year. Lloyd and Milto were out of eligibility so teams didn't have to worry about them going back to school. Gorski was already a high draft pick regardless. Lemonis deserves credit for this as well. in the long-term though, Mercer is definitely the guy and I am confident he will exceed what Lemo did. -

Looks like Salfrank and Gordon both gone as well. 6th round selections. -

Now that season is over who can we expect to leave early from this years roster? I would assume Matt Gorski is gone. Then maybe Gordon and Saalfrank? I know Lloyd, Milto, Fineman have exhausted eligibility so will be gone as well. Will be a number of holes to fill on offense and possible SP. I would assume Bierman slides into one of those SP slots. Main bats back are Barr, Dunham, Bradley and Richardson -
IU Baseball: Big Ten Tourney
TXHoosierDaddy replied to Aaron's topic in Other Indiana Hoosiers Athletics
I don't know, I mean they clearly they weren't sharp. Just think this team although good is quite flawed and beatable. Lots of swing and misses on offense. Some poor baserunning/sloppy errors at times and it seems like some of our best arms are starting to show wear and tear towards the end of the season. Can only hope a nice little break re-energizes/refocuses them. -

Tough time for that to happen. After this game, there is no room for mistakes like that. Wasn't impressed with guys behind him so hope he can get things right! -

Unfortunately, he is really the only guy i trust to make great defensive plays and make consistent contact with the bat. -

LLoyd can't play OF can he? I like Richardson's bat but he seems to be a big liability out there. -
Thanks for laying that out. We should get the better location that Illinois unless something happens otherwise in BIG tourney. Also, have Nebraska in the mix as well although it would seem they would get a less preferential location as well.

Last year they didn't care too much about geography and slotted us in Austin, TX. I would certainly welcome going to Okie St. Nebraska and Illini with more favorable draws than us in this projection but we know its merely that.
