Inclined to Give Archie a Break

I haven't coached so I will not claim to know x's and o's but I do know that if you don't make shots you make it very hard on yourself to be in a position to win and have confidence doing it. If you get down by 15??...forget it. As it has been mentioned in this thread, we have missed A LOT of open looks. Teams pack it in on us in the lane and we have no way to shoot out of it to compete. The only game we have been able to put together this year is when we played Marquette...9-20 (45%) from 3 and 35-55 (64%) overall. Make shots and we have a different offensive flow (more spacing and gaps in the defense) and different looking team (more confidence). Sent from my SM-N960U1 using BtownBanners mobile app

(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky

I'm not going to claim to know if it makes a difference or not but I would imagine that coaches recruit players that have a particular mentality when it comes to matching their style of play. For example, Crean generally seemed to get guys that could score, had no interest in playing defense, and were mentally weak when it came to crunch time. (I say generally because VO, CZ, and JH were a blip in his radar.) Miller comes in and completely flips the script and is defensive minded and demands that first over offensive scheme. Seems to me that we have the unfortunate perfect storm of players that were not recruited for a structured defensive first system trying to fit....but they aren't fitting very well. How do you change a players mentality from "outscore your opponent" to "defense starts the offense"? I don't know the answer but I think as the roster begins to turnover we may start seeing Archie's stuff come around. Sent from my SM-N960U1 using BtownBanners mobile app

    So some concerns I’m having...

Not sure if this has been posted on here but I figured it might add a little perspective to those that feel Knight's way is the only way. This is a quote from an article in the Indystar dated March 2, 2018...10.5 months ago: “Patience is not something a lot of fans have,” Knight said. “But this kid (Miller) is going to do a good job. Why? Because he can coach. Most of the coaches I’ve known, can’t coach. You folks are going to appreciate him, but it ain’t gonna happen in a year." I doubt Archie forgot how to coach since he has arrived. It's been a tough stretch for sure but let's see how he rights the ship. Sent from my SM-N960U1 using BtownBanners mobile app

    IUBB at Wisconsin - 1/2/18 @ 7:00 E.T.

These guys were not recruited to do anything Archie is wanting them to do. They were recruited to run up and down the floor as fast as they can with no reguard for protecting the ball or for playing any type of defense..he may never reach this team.
