Give Coach Tom Allen a MONSTER extension.
HoosierInParadise replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Yeah I wasn't really comparing location, more just to the fact that Mark Few doesn't seem to have a desire to leave for any other job... Sent from my SM-F700U using BtownBanners mobile app -
Give Coach Tom Allen a MONSTER extension.

We just need to make him the Mark Few of college football to where he has no desire to leave and is as comfortable as can be. Sent from my SM-F700U using BtownBanners mobile app -

I am not a coach and I don't know all of the intricacies of Archie's defense. I have wondered though, if the players aren't doing a good job with it...why not go to a straight man-to-man? Easy to understand and each individual will be exposed of they don't show effort against their man. Sent from my LM-G850 using BtownBanners mobile app -
With the effort they showed today, the scholarship players should stay out there and have to take in the fact that they have walk-on players finishing the game against them....and extending the lead. Sent from my LM-G850 using BtownBanners mobile app

You definitely make good points here. However, I would say it would be different if we were having this discussion after making the tournament but not making a deep enough run in the tournament. The problem is that with expectations not all that high, three years should be enough to put a good, consistent product on the floor. The only thing consistent right now is bad basketball. If I was mediocre to poor in my performance evaluations over a three year period, I shouldn't be surprised if my employer is looking to replace me. On the other hand, if I was replacing someone that couldn't meet very mild expectations, I would not be afraid of being treated the same if I were to actually meet or exceed the expectations set forth. IUBB vs MSU Game Thread 1/23 8:30 FS1
HoosierInParadise replied to mamasa's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I agree....honestly, with us in the mix at this point and with how we are trending upward, we could very well share or win the conference title. Take care of home and split our 3 sets of two game road trips to only lose 3 more conference games. Totally achievable if we keep playing like we have been. HoosierInParadise replied to mamasa's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
All great points! Our guard play was atrocious and I agree that collectively they made a mess of this game. I guess I have been hoping the the FSU game wouldn't be an outlier with Green. It is so maddening that he has no recognition of time and possession. Your senior has to be able to recognize when the guards need to stop shooting the ball because no one is making anything and to go back to what ALWAYS got us our lead by pounding it inside. He can obviously be so good at times but Green has to LEAD... Sent from my LM-G850 using BtownBanners mobile app -

I don't usually like to place blame one player or person for a loss, but this one is on Green. One of our captains is ejected from the game and our senior leader should be a calming force that helps things get going. We need him on the floor because we need his potential points but man, it's times like these where he's got to step up. Sent from my LM-G850 using BtownBanners mobile app -

Yeah you're right. I forgot about the close games early in the season last year and remembered them when I went back and looked. I guess I'm tired of being frustrated about the little things and if the team is able to gut out a win, regardless of the opponent and/or how ugly it is, I've decided to be happy with it and hope for growth. Last year we lost most of our close games....12 out of 13 games if I remember correctly. Is jury still out on how good we can be? Sure. But I like winning more than losing and if we are winning these type of games now and can be playing our best basketball at then end of the season then I will continue be happy when we win games... Some have said that this feels like a Crean-like desperation recruit. With Archie saying that we will only go after someone that will help us in the 2019 class, I'm going to choose this to have more of the feeling of this being the type of unknown recruit Beilein would get at Michigan that would roast us for 20 point? It's clear now what is going on. IU must be an Android school and Memphis is a Mac school. Apple must have promised the parents $ if he chose Memphis and used FaceTime to do it. LQ will endorse the new 2023 AirPods after graduation...and all this time we have been worried about Adidas vs. Nike vs. UA... Sent from my SM-N960U1 using BtownBanners mobile app -
2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves
HoosierInParadise replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I know we need a shooter in the worst way and losing Harris doesn't help, but I can't understand the argument that we NEED more talent to win. Everyone coming back and our recruiting class coming in is a 4 or 5 star (according to 247) coming out of high school except Green, Durham, and Franklin. We have talent, just need development and togetherness. Watford and LQ would be great if it happens, but we really just need guys that are sold out for IU, can shoot the rock, and play nasty D. 2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves
HoosierInParadise replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The lean Crean years involved getting 3 star recruits or lower from states out east and down south. I never understood why he would venture out of the state to pick up anyone under a 4 star. There are plenty of 3 stars in Indiana that have dreamed of putting on the jersey. I'd take a 3 star from the state of Indiana over a 3 star from another state any day of the week. HoosierInParadise replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Not sure if this has been stated I this thread or not, but I want to give credit to Archie for the development of the guards. Green, Al, and Phenisee. It seems like he has been criticized some this season for not developing players but I think our group of guards have made some strides. Sent from my SM-N960U1 using BtownBanners mobile app -

NIT Game Thread - IU vs. St. Francis (PA) | 3/19 @ 7PM(ET) on ESPN
HoosierInParadise replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
With Gafford from Arkansas deciding not to play in the NIT and enter the draft it got me wondering...do you all think Romeo actually hasn't decided if he is leaving or not next season? CZ came back for his sophomore year so it's not unheard of, and Romeo would gain nothing by playing in the NIT unless he is returning. Sent from my SM-N960U1 using BtownBanners mobile app -
2019 NIT Tournament
HoosierInParadise replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The NIT was a pipedream 4 weeks ago. The team turned it around and made a push that fell a bit short. We absolutely could have been selected today but were on the wrong side of it. My hope is that our fans can get over it. I fear that the constant negativity that I am seeing on social media is taking a toll on many facets of the program (recruiting, national perception, etc.). I know we sucked for a good portion of the season, but we have been playing our best basketball at the end of the season, minus the Ohio State game. I want the team to make a run, if for no other reason than to have positive momentum in the locker room before going into the off season. Sent from my SM-N960U1 using BtownBanners mobile app -
Inclined to Give Archie a Break
HoosierInParadise replied to Bigred3588's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It's the only game where I feel like we were actually able to see what this offense and defense are capable of when the players execute. We were loaded with confidence in that game. Duke humbled us and it's been a struggle to gain confidence since. Sent from my SM-N960U1 using BtownBanners mobile app -
Inclined to Give Archie a Break
HoosierInParadise replied to Bigred3588's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I haven't coached so I will not claim to know x's and o's but I do know that if you don't make shots you make it very hard on yourself to be in a position to win and have confidence doing it. If you get down by 15??...forget it. As it has been mentioned in this thread, we have missed A LOT of open looks. Teams pack it in on us in the lane and we have no way to shoot out of it to compete. The only game we have been able to put together this year is when we played Marquette...9-20 (45%) from 3 and 35-55 (64%) overall. Make shots and we have a different offensive flow (more spacing and gaps in the defense) and different looking team (more confidence). Sent from my SM-N960U1 using BtownBanners mobile app -
(2019) SF Keion Brooks Jr. to Kentucky
HoosierInParadise replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I'm not going to claim to know if it makes a difference or not but I would imagine that coaches recruit players that have a particular mentality when it comes to matching their style of play. For example, Crean generally seemed to get guys that could score, had no interest in playing defense, and were mentally weak when it came to crunch time. (I say generally because VO, CZ, and JH were a blip in his radar.) Miller comes in and completely flips the script and is defensive minded and demands that first over offensive scheme. Seems to me that we have the unfortunate perfect storm of players that were not recruited for a structured defensive first system trying to fit....but they aren't fitting very well. How do you change a players mentality from "outscore your opponent" to "defense starts the offense"? I don't know the answer but I think as the roster begins to turnover we may start seeing Archie's stuff come around. Sent from my SM-N960U1 using BtownBanners mobile app
