That's the way you hire Beard...float out names of terrible hires and act like you are going to hire them, and then BOOM! Beard is the saving grace hire that everyone can "live with" in regards to the baggage he brings. -

If you had a choice between Brad Brownell or Beard with baggage, I can't imagine you don't take Beard with baggage... -

I thought about this and the smokescreen theory. If it is, in fact, a smokescreen, maybe Goodman was asked to put it out there in exchange for being the one that will be the first to be given the official news so he can break it first. Probably not, but it got me thinking.. -

If Stevens is for sure a no, then take that same money and go after the best sitting coaches you can. Who cares if they say no. IU needs to send a message that they aren't messing around and they are willing to pay top dollar for the best. Jay Wright, Bill Self, etc....Go get someone to inject this program with some life and energy. Some of the names that are being mentioned are so blah. We may end up with a blah level coach but make the best say no. -

I think the main problem is the varying options on how good of a job the IU position is. I see people pleading for others to discuss "realistic" candidates. Well, my idea of how good the job is maybe more positive than yours and, therefore my pool of candidates that are realistic compared to yours would include people you feel are unrealistic. I know I'm stating the obvious, but it's frustrating when people start whining about discussions that are happening about candidates THEY deem out of reach.... -

With all the Stevens and, for some reason, Cronin talk I probably missed this....but why are we putting Pearl in the same category as Beard with regard to IU not even considering him? Is it because of recruiting issues he had at previous stops? -

For those wanting to shut down the Stevens discussion...I'd love to shut down the Cronin discussion. -

This is laughable....you are shaming people on a free message board. I can't tell if you're yelling or just giving that "disappointed dad" tone. -

Exactly! There is a way to definitively shut it down, and that is by coming out and fully addressing it like he did last time where there was no guessing. They know what they are doing when vague statements are made and it is anything but shutting down the noise. Smokescreen work because those that are gullable enough to believe them are distracted. I'll stay focused on the fact that he did not deny it himself and that we heard a weak statement from Jeff Goodman. -

HE didn't....sources said....that is a huge difference. If you don't understand that, I can't help you. The only thing quoted that was said by him is the part about his time as a Celtic and liking the people he works with. -

That statement won't shut anything down....it was weak if the intent was to shut it down. -

Just because details aren't in the media doesn't mean they aren't factual details? There are high profile business deals done all the time where the people that know about what went on are the people in the room and the people that they talk to. Stuff spreads because people in the room can't be trusted to keep it quiet.....hence the need for smokescreens.
