I know this is all in good fun but people do realize that Jerry Yeagley is not the IU soccer coach and hasn’t been for a decade? -

I truly cannot understand how anyone can be pissed at Ballo last night. He played hard. He still misses way too many free throws, but that’s who he is. People have been screaming at the guys all season and then when we do, we get mad at them, because they’re getting on a teammate for a terrible play. My biggest criticism all along has been why can’t everybody bring that fire every night? If you’re going to get mad at Paula, that’s what you should be mad about not for yelling at Rice. I would have been yelling at him too. There is a reason Rice didn’t play virtually the entire second half. -

I have missed a whole bunch of pages and someone probably said this already. But a guard can actually make three pointers and has more assists than turnovers. He has some skills, but I’m not convinced he’s as good as everyone thinks. -

The guys you went back with a new coach are clearly the guys who have some talent but have underachieve due to poor coaching. Banks, Bates, even Gunn to some degree all fall in that category. They are flourishing or at least performing way better than expectation based on what they did at IU. That is why for me I would like to see Mack and Rice return. I’m not saying I think they will. It’s just who I would like to have back. Cupps seems like an old-school Indiana type player, but I’m just not sure he is good enough. Same with Tucker and Carlyle. Just don’t think they are good enough. Reneau is the biggest question mark for me. Has some obvious talent, but his holes are so large. I’m not sure that I can see them getting fixed. changing culture and cleaning house is important, but I also know that having a roster that is entirely new presents some other challenges. Having a little continuity helps. Given how bad things have gotten, I’m not sure anybody will stay unless we overpay like we have been doing. -

Fair enough, but it seems that the consensus is Woody will be gone. Gloom and doom folks fear the worst, but I think it’s safe to say he won’t be back. There are only so many ways to say we want him fired in 1800 pages of a thread. We have two signees that I think we would like to keep. That leaves 11 scholarships available. I think it’s reasonable to start thinking about how many returning players do we actually want? To answer my own question, I think I would be fine with seeing Miles Rice return to see what he can do with proper coaching in a proper system. Oddly enough with all his faults I think I would actually be OK with run it back 1 more time with Mbako. He clearly has a bunch of issues, but he also clearly has some talent and you need some talent to win. I think a good coach could unlock some of that. The rest of the roster I am fine with leaving. -

I’ve only seen this discussed briefly here on this massive thread. Assuming Woody is gone, what players that are eligible to return would you like to see actually return? Not who you think might/will… who would you like? Are there any foundational pieces currently here? it seems to be pretty well documented that Sisley will come no matter what. The Bosnian? I know nothing about him, but his three-point shooting percentage alone having already been playing against grown men tells me that I think we would like to keep him. Others besides the 2 signees? -

This is correct. You are bringing someone in totally from the outside. Not gonna happen -

Hoosiers will lose this one. It hasn’t been a dumpster fire but they simply aren’t good enough to beat competent teams that can make 3s. -

I’m aware of the circumstances. Why IU? We didn’t have a long recruitment history with any of them necessarily that I’m aware of- maybe we did. In the end I’m guessing it came down to money and we offered the most. Tucker is the case that seems most pronounced to me. I think he has some promise as a player, but he didn’t fit a need that we had at all. We needed three point shooting and he isn’t that. If he did his homework, he should have been able to see that our offense is dog water for a player like him. If I was a player considering IU with Woody in charge it only makes sense from a basketball perspective if I am a big wanting touches or a pt guard to wants the ball in my hand all the time. -

Regarding star️s and players. There is totally a reason why Tucker, Mbako and Reneau were all available as late spring signees. Everyone else figured out they were overrated, and just wanted the bag. Mercenaries never work long term. There heart just isn’t in it. If Woody had spent more than five minutes working on recruiting he would’ve seen that too- maybe. -

Two things are true: I am happy that we won the game last night. I will always cheer for my team. Mike Woodson is still a terrible coach and should be fired. People thinking last night changes anything with the fundamental problems with IU basketball or Mike Woodson as a coach are just giving a “visceral” response as the infamous Kathy likes to say. A data based assessment on a 4 year body of work makes it clear that he must go. -

I’m a Hoosier fan living in Ohio. Everyone at my school where I teach knows I’m a huge Hoosier fan. Literally not one person- student or staff said anything about tonight‘s basketball game to me. My guess is 99% of them don’t know that it’s happening AND i’m at a basketball crazy school. Boys and girls currently a combined 22-1 ranked 1st and 2nd in the state. No one in Ohio cares at all about OSU basketball. That is not an exaggeration. Random- thank goodness our high school boys have a game tonight so I won’t be tempted to watch IU. Our boys coach has 500 wins in 20 seasons. He would do better as the coach at IU than Woody. Our teams play their @$$ off and play a way more entertaining brand of basketball. -

FWIW- over on Bleacher Report a person who normally has fairly reliable information says that Beard has reached out to Pat Knight… they are apparently friends which has been mentioned somewhere in this massive thread…. And let Pat know that he is interested and would come. I have no special knowledge and sorry if someone else has previously shared this. It’s hard to keep up. I also don’t have a strong opinion about whether beard should or should not be a candidate- that has been discussed by numerous others here already. -

We shouldn’t fire Woodson. We are in danger of becoming Nebraska football. Kornheiser wasn’t on board with his take. Said 35-32 in the B1G isn’t good enough and Tony is right. Sadly, I think we already are Nebraska football. -

As someone who literally spends part of his day, teaching people about decision-making, I would add to this mess of the thread by saying… 1) the best decision are not made by emotion. The people who are saying that are correct. 2) the best decisions are made by logic and by a process. Kathy is correct in saying those things. However, in this case, logic and a reasonable process of evaluating data and history, paint us to the fact that a separation is necessary. When a separation becomes necessary it’s best to do it immediately rather than dragging it out. The emotional argument here isn’t to get rid of him. The emotional argument is to keep- ie, letting him retire with dignity as a program legend. plenty of data backs up the idea that he needs to go so you do it once your processes and your logic (data) show you this. As another poster said previously when you determine a patient is ill you don’t wait and hope that the disease will miraculously turn around or cure itself… you take the necessary steps to start fixing the problem immediately. again, having said that I will say you can’t just fire someone without any plan. You have to have a logic based plan on how you are going to deal with the interim as well as the long-term solution. Based on past experience, I struggle to see IU excelling here. In summary, that someone who deals with this a lot and also is a coach, albeit at a much lower level- I think they should move on immediately, but need to rapidly have a solid plan in place. No real good solutions to this problem that they should have solved last off-season. I apologize for the length to anyone who’s stuck with this. -
