Article on recruits from McCarthy

I don't believe Etherington was a bust. He showed some promise but chose another rout. I think he could have been a valuable asset to our team. -

Indiana v. Northwestern POSTGAME Thread
USMCHoosier replied to MartintheMopMan's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
JBJ was a horrible defender. I do think him being out has made a huge difference in our defense because now there is only 1 guy playing poor D and that is Troy. When 40% of the team that is on the floor plays limited to no D, the team D will be horrible. Now, I do agree that the rest of the team appear to be playing with more heart defensively and that is not on JBJ. Lastly, when I read "The underclassmen who are seeing how effective this defense is will help pass it along to the next group and the next." I have to laugh. The freshmen are the only players that have consistently played D all year. I would argue that the upper classmen have seen how effective this defense can be. -

I agree, the weak schedule talk doesn't carry much weight considering 2 of our 3 losses were against weak opponents. This team has figured out how to win the games they are supposed to. -
Indiana v. Northwestern POSTGAME Thread

Just finished watching the game. My initial take: very solid game start to finish. I am very disappointed in Max and his repetitive traveling. VERY VERY tired of TB and his whining about EVERY call that goes against him. For the most part, Troy played within himself. I only saw a couple of times that he forced something that wasn't there. Once again, all-in-all it was a very good game start to finish and it was against a pretty good opponent. -
Next Major D-1 Coach to Hang It Up
USMCHoosier replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Huggins will likely be done soon. I don't think his health will let him do it much longer. -
Play quality teams, fill up the win column and play late into the tournament. You do those things consistently, for a period of time, and you won't be able to get a seat.
-
A lot of favorable posts in here as of late.My position is unchanged, a final 8 "may" buy him another year. A final 4 or better will certainly allow him to stick around. I still don't believe he can coach a complete team nor prepare them for the excellent teams they will need to be ready for late in the tournament.

Not sure I would say Max was awesome. He was solid. I am always afraid his 3s will break the rim. They have the trajectory of a bullet. -
I don't recall saying anything about a conspiracy. I also don't recall hearing anything about his injury after the OSU game.
-
Funny how this "injury" only comes up after he plays poorly. Started hearing he was sick or injured after his horrible start to B1G play. Then nothing after his solid game vs OSU. Now, suddenly he is injured after his no-show at Minn.

Is Thomas Bryant a one and done?
USMCHoosier replied to jdailey1981's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think TB showes flashes of the ability to be one and done but here is why I believe he is not. 1. He is 6'10", undersized for a center and he is not yet skilled enough to be a power forward. 2. He needs to develop a little more quickness in and around the block. He has the skills in the block but he is a little slow going to the correct move at times. 3. He is still learning how to properly hedge at the top of the key. Bottom line, someone may draft him but it would be purely on perceived upside. He could be dominant next year and if so, he will be gone. I don't see him staying longer than next year unless he decides he wants to stay while finishing his degree, the option to go pro will likely be his as I believe he will be a lottery pick. -
A Letter to Coach Robert M. Knight- From the fans
USMCHoosier replied to ALASKA HOOSIER's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I may be in the minority but I really do not blame RMK for not coming back. Yes, he deserved to be fired. However, IU allowed him to grow into what he ultimately became by not curtailing his behavior earlier in his career. This is who he is, we should not expect him to be anything else. As a fan, I would love to see that rift closed and I do think it could be cathartic for him. I just don't see him ever coming back, the really big opportunities have passed. The only thing I could see him possibly coming back for is if there were a building named after him. Should IU do that to help mend the fences, not unless they have a donor willing to fully fund the endeavor. I don't feel like many, that he is somehow selfish or any other adjective you want to use. His behavior now is exactly what made him successful. He believes he is right and nobody on God's green Earth is going to change his opinion. -

Truth is, if JBJ ever hopes to play in the NBA he will have to learn to play some defense. -

Totally disagree on Z. He is slumping big time, there is no denying that. He is a proven shooter who will find his way out of this slump. We will need him so you have to let him play through it. -

What I love about this post is that it is so Bob Knight. The reality is, we could do better at all of those things but you will likely never see a complete game. This was an outstanding defensive effort which led to a lot of easy offense. -
He should be teaching defense as the first priority and offense second. D travels better than O.
