Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers
Sota Hoosier replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He reminds me of a lot of Jon Leuer. Leuer rose the ranks immensely (literally from projected decent DIII ball player to high D-I) between his Sophomore and Senior years in HS but was less than 200 lbs. at 6'10". He tacked around 40 lbs. of muscle in college at UW and was a power in the B1G by his senior year. He is now the sixth man for Pistons and makes nearly $11M per year. Not saying Clifton will live up to that comparison but his rise from relative unknown to the target of many high-major programs is similar to Leuer's and body types are almost identical. Clifton seems to have a lot of untapped potential as Leuer did so let's hope he has a similar path! -
Not sure if this was mentioned but Dayton hired Anthony Grant as new HC Edit: I see it above now. Whoops!

I look forward to watching Archie get on our guys during timeouts (especially at 5'9"). I've always loved how the elite guys are able to do that and the team responds. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

It's okay if he *wins* the PC by the way.... Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Crean and Archie are mutually exclusive. To assume Archie is Crean is ridiculous. Could it happen? Sure. But I feel a lot better with Archie at he helm than with Crean. He's also 38 and went farther AT DAYTON than Crean did at IU in the tourney. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Optimistic and smart. Fully understand it could not work out but I'm feeling good vibes. I think Archie "gets it." Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

I agree with this but I feel as though Bennett has proven he can beat high-caliber teams with less talent. It would be very interesting to see what the recruiting uptick would be like for him at IU. I can't get myself to buy any of the Donovan stuff so focusing on Bennett and if not him, the Millers. White has certainly been interesting as well. Marshall, Mack, and Collins are the next rung for me. I would give Archie a chance but it's obviously high risk, high reward. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

No one knows a GD thing...we need to stay the course. There are good candidates to be had and I'm sure Glass is working his tail off to get the "right guy" in place. To proclaim "resources will not be an issue" and hire a Fife, Mack, etc. candidate does not follow any sort of logic. If we can figure out what the list should be then I'm sure as hell he can too. I'm putting my money on a ridiculous offer to one of Donovan, Bennett, Sean Miller, or Gregg Marshall. And by ridiculous I mean for the market not for IU. IU can make an offer that only about 5 other schools can make. I won't be shocked by Alford but Alford doesn't seem like a Glass hire but I could be wrong.

How does Mack land the IU job while still having a team in the Sweet Sixteen? I understand Underwood bounced to U of I very quickly after being ousted by Michigan but that was a different situation.
-
Anybody think we have our dude but waiting to announce until right before the games tomorrow? Kind of did that with the Crean canning. The contrarian in me thinks it may be someone we haven't talked a lot about.
-
"Resources will not prevent us from getting who we want." Cool Dad? COMPLETE BADA$$

A lot of this "IU ties...Indiana..Indiana...Indiana" talk could also be more of a message than anything. His attempt to shift the program focus back to the state and pleases the alumni. From the other things he has said, it sounds like all the candidates we have discussed are in play.

Need to let this thing play out. There are good names to be had on the market. At the end of the day, if Crean is no longer HC in a week then it won't matter how it happened. All the matters is who is next.
-
We need to get out of the weeds... Crean is out recruiting to maintain relationships. It's what he needs to do regardless of where he ends up. Our season ended a little over 24 hours ago. Glass is likely aligning his plans. The true insiders have claimed he is gone. Apparently he was offered the Missouri job - we should take that as he will not be back and was told to seek employment elsewhere. Crean is not in the driver's seat here. Money matters most. If money is drying up, it will force Glass to make a move regardless of his personal connection to Crean. I think there is a non-zero chance that Crean could be back but I'm not really worried. The stars are too aligned at this point. My main worry is where the program goes next. I'm not buying the Donovan rumors at this point so it needs to be the "right" guy. One of Bennett, Sean/Archie, or Gregg Marshall. Collins, Holtmann, Alford or anyone else worries me. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

The only advantage I see with Alford is that he would fully understand what it means to be the HC at IU. Other than that, pass...I'll take Gregg Marshall in a heartbeat between the two. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Game Thread: Indiana vs Wisconsin (Tonight @ 6:30PM on BTN)
Sota Hoosier replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Anyone see the massive pants tug Tommy did after JBJ hit that three? It was a pull up and aggressive shake from side to side. Good stuff. -
And it's about 3" too long with that right hand engulfed in cuff. Wonder if he goes Joseph A's and takes advantage of those ridiculous sales even when his size is sold out.

*Nice press* -
He's not going to cry and sulk in a public setting. He's playing the part of a professional in an intensely visible setting which is what anyone should do and I'm sure his agent is advising to do so. Any slip or notice of breaking in adversity and that could be used against at future jobs as being a liability. Like everyone else, I want this thing to be over and questions answered.

Coach Search 2017 IU Candidate: Billy Donovan (OKC Thunder)
Sota Hoosier replied to Feathery's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
While I 100% believe IU has at least talked to Donovan, I don't think he is a realistic candidate at this point. Too much is unknown in OKC and they are still a playoff team after-all and he is making $6M/year. If they were out of the playoffs and it was a known fact that Westbrook was leaving then maybe I see it but my gut is telling me he will not be the IU head coach next year. I'm getting excited at the idea of Archie Miller and hopefully he is next in line after Donovan. I'm pretty skeptical of Collins/Fife at this point but it would be good to have a guy like Fife in and around program. Sean Miller is interesting as well but I'd lean towards Archie due to his age and accomplishments at a tiny program (compared to IU). I was a big fan of trying to get Bennett but if he is bitter about his sister that's his loss. It seems so logical for a guy like him to want to make the step to a top 10 program but if that's not he wants then so be it. I have kept up-to-date on nearly all messages on the various threads (I think) so wanted to provide that context. Remaining cautiously optimistic about who will be on the sidelines next year but I don't think anything is out of the question with who they hire...we've been let down in the past. -
Is it possible Hutch is being sarcastic in his response and this guy is trolling? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Bennett or forget it
