Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers
Jeff_Boy_Ardee replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Unless they're leaving for the league, I don't think many of them want to sit out a year. I would expect many to be back. If Archie can talk TB and JBJ to stay, assuming OG goes pro, I think we could be a very very good team next year. We had all the talent this season just not the guidance. -
Archie MIller Press Conference

It's hard to offer someone a job they do not want and are not interested. -
I get where you're coming from. Archie is not just any young up and comer though imo. He's a guy we would have been upset in a few years if we didn't get him. He's already proven a successful recruiter at big programs. He coached the team USA U19 team to a gold. Also I think it's worth noting this isn't the same situation like when Crean took over. It sounds like you expect us to suck for a few years like we did with Crean. Crean inherited a disaster. As much as we complained about Crean, the team he has left Archie still has a lot of talent on it, especially if we can get one or two guys to stay another year. I don't expect Archie to win the B1G in the next two years but I do expect us to be very competitive. I think we got the best coach possible. Outside of Donovan, The more I think about it I think we got one of the best available. I like him more than Bennett each day that goes by and the more I research him and watch his coaching videos and philosophies. I am super excited for what the future holds! HOO HOO HOO HOOSIERS!!!!

Hutch interview with Ted Kitchel
Jeff_Boy_Ardee replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I used to agree with you. I used to like Dakich, he was honest with his opinion and gave reasoning for it. However now he just says stuff to get clicks over anything else. He seems to constantly attack other athletes in sports he never played and acts like he's the greatest thing that sports broadcasting has ever seen and knows everything. I lose respect for him everytime I hear him talk. I do still enjoy his game calling as he has good insight as to what's going on many others don't have, but outside of his color commentating I don't care for him much at all anymore. -
Why is it okay for other programs to fire multiple coaches until they get the right guy and start winning but not Indiana?

Anyone else going to the pressers tomorrow? I think I've decided in going. More and more excited about this hire everyday

Archie Miller's staff at Indiana will be Bruiser Flint, Tom Ostrom (Dayton) and Ed Schilling (UCLA),
Jeff_Boy_Ardee replied to opiej's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I like Fife but I don't see him coming. It doesn't make sense for him imo. He's the same age as miller so he is not going to be taking over for him at IU. He's already with a HOF who will be retiring at some point in the next 5 years or so maybe longer. Fife has a better chance at taking over MSU once Izzo leaves, maybe a Bo Ryan departure type scenario. Just doesn't make sense for him. -

Well damn, too late

If you're gonna exclude Creans first few years shouldn't you exclude Archie's first two

The Donovan effect. I'm pretty sure Archie was pretty high on many people's list until we started hearing Donovan might actually be plausible, now all of a sudden everyone hates Archie? Is he a big name with an amazing track record, no. But he is young has shown some success and knowledge of the game. He has had teams where he's had to adapt and change his play, something we never saw in 9 years. I think he has the potential to do great things. Is he risky, most likely given that he's still at Dayton and doesn't have a resume at big time programs, but we've seen a lot of mid major coaches with similar resumes do great things. Yes we've seen them not do so well either. I have to believe Donovan was contacted and we have it our best try, and if we end up with Archie then he just didn't want to leave the NBA. I'll support Archie, and think he could be great given the better resources, better brand name, more financial resources for staff and recruiting budget. I'd rather have someone like Archie that has shown potential over a short time versus an Alford who has a 20 year resume of mediocre.

Disagree

Lol at everyone writing off potential coaches just because they're out of the tourney. "You lost a game you suck". Haha do people expect there's a coach out there that goes to the FF every single year??

A lot of schools have UG tunnels connecting buildings, that's where most of their water lines run.

Albers is gonna be busy tonight, blocked me as soon as I responded to his last tweet about swearing billy was there.
-
Well my high school coach told me that he heard Donovan is interested so screw your Andy Katz
-
No shots at you. I just think people are so quick to want someone because of one good year when in reality it's usually an anomaly. Crean made a final four run one time. Not the norm. Martin is having a good year, not his norm. Alford Might make an E8, not his norm. I'd rather have consistency rather than one good run every so many years, we see where that got us.

Funny how fast we are to check random twitter pages though when someone mentions it. Haha, tension is running high in here.
-
Nothing there. I could have made the same blanket statement.
-
I'm hoping Alford was never really an option and they were just going to give him an interview because he's IU guy and by saying he's not the top candidate was a nice way of saying thanks but no thanks.
-
What if Albers is in fact btowninsider and all the other recent unknowns that have been popping up with "sources". Guy has 20 different laptops set up in his room logged in to each account

Clearly the Thunder held practice at Assembly Hall today.

No need to apologize, I do appreciate the video. Good to hear.

Yes I get it. You were the first to post a podcast or radio show where an IU source more or less said Alford and Mack are no go's. Thank you for bringing that bit of information, i think it eases people's minds about Alford, but do you really need to comment non stop and reply to everyone's comment just to point out that you were the one who posted the video.

The Mack talk is kind crazy imo. He's being mentioned because a guy didn't want to coach at UMass, are we serious? People are really stretching
