With like half our team in the transfer portal though, whoever we hire is probably going to need to remake the roster for next season. Poor outside perception of the program could make the new guy’s job harder in that regard.

Transfer portal is no big deal. I’m not convinced they’ll all actually leave. Good idea to explore your options right now If you’re a player

What makes him interesting?  IU should have higher expectations than a relatively new assistant coach with no real accomplishments.

He seems to have the attitude and history to be a good coach. Understands Indiana. I’m also not one who thinks that Indiana needs to hire a “home run” high price tag guy.

  3. Im sorry but you guys are delusional. There is no way he is coming back for a 2nd year. Enjoy him while you can.

Hey, Bridges by all accounts should’ve left after one year as well. He stayed for personal reasons. It’s not out of the realm of possibility. Zeller stays an extra year and goes in the 4 spot in the draft. A second year could appeal to Romeo personally and also be a better draft class for him to go in. It’s not delusional to think something that has happened many times before will happen again.

  4. Lottery pick or not, it’s not as if there’s not a precedent for top talent staying for sophomore year. Obviously Bridges and Zeller come to mind and it seems to me that Romeo appears to have good relationships with the incoming class. I’ve seen much crazier happenings than the idea of Romeo forgoing the draft. Test the waters but not hire an agent.

  5. Im very concerned about the next four games. Every one of them is loseable. A tough preseason schedule is great if your a great team but we are currently an average team with a brutal non conference schedule. If we lose to butler and louisville we are in rough ncaa shape.

The only positive being that we won’t see another Duke the rest of the year. I mean this Duke team is unreal. This Indiana team though, is good enough to manufacture some good wins and it’ll have those opportunities soon.

  6. My expectations were met last night. We’re not as bad as a this Duke team made us look. The hope is that Archie can use these low moments as the forge to harden our team as the season progresses.

As for specifics I would say that Justin Smith’s hands ( aka Hanner Perea hands ) will be his undoing as a player and Devonte Green should probably look to transfer at some point.

  7. The freshman should learn a lot from this one. I think they learned to be stronger with the ball and that some of those weak high school passes don’t fly in college. Time to adjust. Not a bad loss at all. Great early season test. Would’ve been nice to win but that’s a tough road game. Should prove to have been very valuable as the season moves on.

  8. Then I would venture to say that likely many former players, majority of long time fans, former coaches, managers and the boosters have "lost touch with reality".... walk around SSAH and Cook. Look at the walls of Nick's. Reality is that TRADITION is a huge part of IU. Its part of the mystique that makes us unique. It's why IU has the resources for basketball that it does. It's an important reason why the top young coach in the country came here. It's a reason why former players have such a strong attachment and opinions. IU has one of the largest alumni bases in the country- I bet I can guess what most of them think.
Start messing with the traditions, then we become Every Other Place U. No thanks.

Perfectly stated. Some details within the program are there for a reason.

  9. Anyway....Archie our next coach? That would be very disappointing. Of all the candidates, and after all the lofty talk at the presser last week, Glass is going to hire Archie?? I'm not sure about that.

Agreed. Only two guys check all the boxes for almost every Hoosier fan and Glass knows who they are. The big question is, did Freddie pull the trigger on Crean with a new coach in the bag or not.
