Potential coaching change suggestions
Big Bad Wolf replied to Bryan Medema's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I wonder if he survives after all. If he can win a game or two in the big ten tourney, get Bryant, I like his chances. -
Archie Miller, Tony Bennett, Smart and Marshall would be great hires(although I'm not wild about Smart) and a big upgrade. They could do serious damage here. Three out of those 4 would come here and who knows if Bennett has changed his mind. It doesn't have to be Pitino, Calipari or Donovan. It needs to be the NEXT one of those guys. We missed on Sean Miller and Bennett last tine. We need to stop missing and go Alabama/Michigan on our next top target.

I think if you can get Marshall or Archie Miller, you do it. I'm not wild about Shaka Smart. -

This is the most important NW game that I can remember. We win this and win our last two at home and we could get in a position to get a 6th seed. -

It would be a kick in the gut to lose both of these guys to rival out of state programs. -

Interesting comments
Big Bad Wolf replied to shortspacequickness's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The problem is that these are public responses from named coaches/guys in the business. They would be diplomatic no matter what they really thought. I wish they would have asked 4 anonymous Division 1 coaches what they really thought about Tom Crean as a coach. Maybe the answers would have been the same. Maybe not. -
Looks like ND will interview former Irish great Autry Denson for the RB coaching position that they have open. DeLand seems to be an intriguing plan b option for them.
-
Lets just win them all
-
Thanks guys. I think that 22-9 is certainly possible. Maybe even 23-8. I think we would all be pretty stoked with a 4 or 5 seed.
-
If we go 22-8 in the regular season, what would our seed be roughly?

Indiana won't be Indiana until it wants to be Indiana
Big Bad Wolf replied to Magnanimous's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Indiana stopped being indiana after they fired Knight. They have been nothing but timid and scared ever since. I've honestly never seen a school so scared, timid and hesitant before. It's like they are still in the fog of Knights firing. Mike Davis, Kelvin Sampson and Tom Crean were puny, lazy hires. Indiana won't be indiana again until they stop messing around and do what Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama football did and Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina Basketball did. -
Agreed

Crean can still turn this thing around and most of us want him to. He's got to make the tourney this season. And it would be really helpful to win a game in it. Two would be incredible but just one would really help. This would take a lot of the pressure off. Not all but the dead man walking won't be as prevalent. I like the two guys he has coming next season, coupled with DD coming back. But he really needs Yogi to come back. If he does, he may have a pretty darn good team. He's got to get recruiting going again starting with 2016. If the above happens, u think he's going to have a much easier time.
-
They did all of that and still lost out to rival Ohio State. It didn't fit bbecause so many of his players have gotten into trouble that the perception is that he has lost control and he couldn't afford to take a chance on him. Matta has no problem taking a chance on him. Isnt that nice? I'm still curious as to who the next commit from Indiana will be. All of the top indiana kids seem to be wanting anything but indiana, and that's sad.
-
Stop the excuses. The man has been here 7 years. How long does it take to build a strong program? He should be rolling now. He's not the only coach to have kids go pro or transfer. But he sure seems to be the only one who can't recover from it. You do realize that this thread is about recruiting. It's not like he has top classes coming in 2015, 16 or 17. We can't get the top kids in our own state anymore let alone nationally. It's not going to get better.
-
You are simply wrong. He is not respected by the basketball community. He is not respected by indiana high school coaches, the aau circuit and opposing coaches. Whether you want to believe it or not, these are the people who matter. You can find a few people to say nice things publicly about anyone. It's what said off record that counts. He doesn't even get the respect of his own players. His own players diss him as a coach and tell others not to come, Vonleh, VJ3, etc. Who else does this happen to?
-
Who are some Indiana kids in the 2016 class that we have a good shot at?
-
I agree with the poster who said that the word is out on Crean. It seems that all the good to great prospects, the aau circuit and opposing coaching staffs know that he isn't a very good coach and that he is a dead man walking. It's like nobody in the basketball world takes Crean seriously. I'm not sure what indiana is doing here. It's not like he has top recruiting classes coming in over the next couple of years. I just don't see other top flight programs putting up with this. Maybe that's the problem. Maybe indiana no longer views itself as a top flight ptogram.
