Sadly, I wonder if that isn't a part of the problem with one of our much desired "leaders". I'm not sure "team first" is a concept some have or ever will grasp.

OFFICIAL: Ferrell returns for Senior Season
ctucker replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Each of the men you mentioned also are/were GREAT leaders. Most people wouldn't even put Yogi in the "good" category. That's the area he needs to improve on most in my eyes. -
Not to derail, but I don't think we were going to win 20 games with anyone. We were losing EJ and DJ no matter what. Jamarcus Ellis and Deandre Thomas punched their own tickets out of town by dealing/using coke. IF Jordan Crawford, Armon Bassett and Eli Holman had stuck around it would have taken a miracle for them to have collectively pulled their heads out of their a**** and played together and made the grades. On top of all that we had the recruiting sanctions. No one was coming in here and winning 20 games.

I can handle the world's stupidity just fine. I just choose not to contribute to it.

Since you've looked around at other boards, honest question: are they similar to ours in terms of generating and clinging to daily rumors? Do they seem capable of rational discussion without being labeled "us" or "them"? On in intelligence scale where do ours rank?

"Consensus"? What does that mean?

Potential fallout from coaching change
ctucker replied to HoosiersLoveBanners's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Is this the simplemindednes that we're rolling with tonight? Whatever sticks I guess... -
CTC has no doubt felt the heat from our fanbase this season to say the least. He's heard the boos, chants about him at his son's high school basketball games, hack writers harassing his wife... After a long arduous season he thanks the fans that haven't been nasty and have treated his family well as well as stating that it's been an honor to coach Iu and work with Don Fischer. The guy thanked fans and expressed how much of an honor it is to coach at IU. I'm no fan of Tom Crean THE COACH and I realize tensions are at an all time high, but our fanbase can be truly embarrassing. What a joke.

Interesting. First I've heard that over the years. Would love to see someone with sources back that up -
Potential coaching change suggestions

All good points, but the circumstances are much different now from when Bennett was previously offered. As for Hoiberg, I've heard that he's pretty devoted to Iowa State, but the dude will likely never win a national championship there. If he wants to compete at the highest level and get compensated as such, I believe he'd hear us out. Some of the talking heads have indicated that many close to Hoiberg believe he's only leave ISU for the league, but still it's worth the call. I haven't heard the rumors about Marshall, but of there's smoke you can cross him off the list. -

Ok I gotcha. I'm just not sure the majority of our fanbase has the patience right now for that. I think we're in agreement that if the resume is questionable its not worth the gamble. -
Potential coaching change suggestions

I think Hoiberg, Marshall & Bennett are all considered up and coming coaches. Every one of those guys will either move to a big time program or get an NBA gig. Pretty confident that a guy making a name for himself at IU and then moving elsewhere is a highly unlikely scenario. IU has lost some luster, but it's still a destination job. -

Some of the names that are tossed around amaze me. After Davis, Sampson and Crean you would think that people would be more rational when discussing a future coach. Why would we want to take a huge gamble on a young coach that has had some success in a mediocre conference? Or an NBA coach that has no experience coaching, recruiting or the many other responsibilities of a coach in the college ranks? I'm not getting any younger. If we're getting rid of Crean we better be bringing in someone that is an elite and proven college coach so we can turn this around quickly without any learning curves. If I'm Glass my home run hire list is: 1. Brad Stevens 2. Billy Donovon 3. Tony Bennett Then I'd be thinking 1. Fred Hoiberg 2. Gregg Marshall If none of these guys are interested in the job then I'm not sure I'd can Crean. I'd also seriously question our administration's dedication and competence. -
I live in a bigger city so I guess I may have more options available to me.

A 15 minute drive and your best option is a B-dubs? Must be slim pickings.

I'm just happy Yogi permanently deleted his Twitter account. At least now he won't be harassed by so called "fans" about these rumors.

The fans aren't going to the games?
ctucker replied to ALASKA HOOSIER's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Some of this may have been true when you were heaving balls into peach baskets, but the fact of the matter is fan noise does impact games. No one says it wins games. It impacts them. I was a competitive athlete through high school (as i"m sure many others on the board were) and I can say that fan noise works both ways. It can be a pain to the opposition and it can provide an adrenaline boost to the team or players. As opposing players in the big ten have noted: when the hall is rocking and the fans are into the game, it's hard to even think. Why do you think that opposing players in the conference almost universally say that we're the toughest place to play? The lights? Our dusty banners? No. Its the noise. I get your point. We shouldn't need the noise to win games. Our coaching and play should do all of the talking, but the fact of the matter is that fans do make a difference and can spark some energy. Especially for a young team. -
The fans aren't going to the games?

A few quick and random observations: - The tickets are selling just fine. The students just aren't using them. It's still disheartening, but if the students that aren't going would sell or give their tickets away that would at least put people in the seats. - If you're a student and your excuse is that you don't want to stand for 4hrs then you're an absolute embarrassment. The top student sections are standing and making noise the ENTIRE GAME. Give your ticket to someone who wants to watch the game and have an impact. -Getting students to the game is only half the battle. They need to be engaged and understand that their involvement can be the difference maker. - When I was a student (this century) we didn't have an "official" student section organization. When the Crimson Guard was formed I think most alumni and caring students were stoked. Granted I'm not in Bloomington anymore, but what the hell do they actually do? Their social media presence is a joke. I know they have little sign parties or whatever and distribute hot chocolate to students that wait out the long lines, but what, if anything, do they do to engage student fans? My little brother went to the dark side and attended Purdue and graduated just a few years ago. He was a student ticket holder for four years and I went to several games with him. Now, I absolutely despise PU fans, but I can honestly say that other than their black gloves gimmick and their IU sucks chant they put our student section to absolute shame. We have the numbers (?), but thats it. I tend to believe that our fans as a whole are far more knoweledgeable of the game, but their student section fully comprehends their role and significance. Regardless of the product they put on the floor the Paint Crew get the students involved. --Bottom line: it just ticks me off to see our student section "leaders" piss away this opportunity. -Fortunately, our players still care about our home court and going into Thursday we're undefeated at AH in conference play. -Where is the IDS in all of this? Have they called out our students? I genuinely hope that our fans wake up before Thursday because our boys could really use their support and encouragent during this final stretch going into the tourney. -
Pretty clear you were at the top of your class...

So who's going to be the new Coach next year?
ctucker replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This isn't a Fred Glass problem at all. This is a player and Tom Crean problem -
So who's going to be the new Coach next year?

May or may not be true. What is fact is that there are a good group of folks with deep pockets that have grown VERY impatient and aren't getting any younger. -

Not to derail, but what's the problem with Glass in your opinion? Regardless of what he's telling the media right now in regards to Crean, he has done FAR more for IU athletics than many realize.
