General Coach Candidate News
IU Hambone replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
There's a national perception that IU has fired guys too quickly: Archie only got 4 years, Crean was 1 year removed from a B1G title and Sweet 16, and most schools probably wouldn't have fired Sampson either for minor recruiting violations (look how almost everyone from the FBI stuff survived). You've got to be really confident in your abilities to want the Indiana job when you can make just as much money with a lot less pressure somewhere else. -

The most concerning thing to me in that article was the fact that multiple "industry sources" think Marquette is a better job now than Indiana. With all the other bad press we've been getting I'm starting to believe that IU really isn't a super desirable job. -

Norlander just published an article basically saying he should take the Marquette job over Indiana. -
Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)
IU Hambone replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I surprised by how disappointed I am. I've been following this thread for days but I didn't think I allowed myself to really believe. I think that our insiders believed what they were told and maybe the people that told them believed it too. I think Stevens coming to IU meant so much to us because it would tell the world that Indiana basketball still mattered after 30 years of mediocrity. But apparently we're the joke everyone else thinks we are. I think I need a break from this program. -

Quick note on Dameshek, he wasn't a reporter at the NFL. He was a talking head/analyst/entertainer type. I'm honestly not entirely certain he's being serious. -

Public/private won't matter. Duke still gets tons of federal funding. That's enough for jurisdiction. Sent from my SM-G935V using BtownBanners mobile app

There's a lot of finger pointing in this thread at more successful programs. I think it's fair to point out an obvious correlation between one of those programs and our own. Sent from my SM-G935V using BtownBanners mobile app

Anyone concerned about our obvious connections to Arizona? Emanuel Richardson coached with Sean for a decade and was an assistant with CAM for two seasons. It's almost concerning how quickly we got in with Romeo and Garland now. There's no evidence of any wrong doing but we should let this play out more before we get excited about anything. Player and Recruit Retention News/Discussion & Potential Transfers
IU Hambone replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I keep seeing the phrase "Archie must know something" in regards to the oversigning situation. Just my opinion, but we should consider the possibility that he's as uncertain as we are (or at least less certain than some believe). If the guys without an agent were certain they were leaving, particularly TB and JBJ, they just would have just hired an agent. If the players aren't certain, then neither is their coach that they just met a few weeks ago. The fact that he went after the existing recruits just tells us he thought they were quality players that he thought he could acquire given the difficulties of recruiting for at a new position. I think he's hedging his bets. He must know that no one can reasonably criticize him for "Creaning" (if those guys come back) given that it's a situation that he inherited. I'm very optimistic about CAM, but let's keep in mind that these are kids that have no idea what they want and that this is what Crean left him if he has to "cut" guys. For those concerned about some of our guys declaring: 78 underclassmen declared without hiring an agent last season. 6 were drafted, 12 stayed and were undrafted, and 60 returned to school. Just wanted to point out that this is normal. (Note: stats taken from a Reddit post but the post looks accurate.) Sent from my SM-G935V using BtownBanners mobile app -

Kent Sterling made I good point about the interview that I haven't seen brought up. Before Dakich could even start the interview, Crean interrupted him with five minutes of praise for Dakich's son. You could see it a classy and kind act. A more cynical person could see it as phony and manipulative. Sterling saw the latter and I'm inclined to agree. I knew some people around the athletic department when I was in school and the word was that he was only kind to people who mattered.

#11 Indiana v. #3 Kansas - Postgame Thread
IU Hambone replied to MartintheMopMan's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Fantastic game and love the team but definitely room to grow too. Personally, I'm satisfied with Newkirk as the PG. He needs to finish better but this was his first game in over year. His explosiveness and quickness make me believe we should be patient. OG's defensive performance should be acknowledged. He had a lot to do with the nation's top recruit only scoring 9 points and he had 3 blocks. Really pleased with everyone on the whole. Amazing showing from the freshmen. Bryant and Blackmon carried the team in the first and second halves, respectively. Also, I think Morgan should start. He perfectly fills that Hartman role, but is more athletic and a better defender. He shot well from 3 last year in limited attempts as well. He had the highest +/- on the team last night and no one on the team replicates his versatility. Johnson showed last year that he can play well off the bench. -

IU's Most Important Player This Season

Yogi and I don't think it's that close. Who's taking all those minutes handling the ball? Without Yogi we're deep in the bottom half of the big ten. -
Crean was on ESPN's college basketball podcast this week and he hinted that he may utilize a more traditional lineup. He said some like the three guard lineup can be used more as a weapon than a necessity.
