When Will Bob Knight/IU Patch Things Up

Bob. Ain't. Comin'. Back.    Let. It. Go.   So I hereby issue The De-Bobification Emancipation Proclamation:   Whereas, on the fifteenth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand and fourteen, a proclamation was issued by the one known as Recycled Hoosier, an Alumnus (BS Ed 1977, MS Ed 1982) of the Bloomington Campus of The Great Indiana University, containing, among other things, the following, to wit: "That on the Third Day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand fourteen, also known as the first day of Men’s Basketball Practice, and in the Hoosier Spirit of Light and Truth, all persons still held as slaves to the notion that Coach Bob Knight will someday return to the The Assembly Hall, The Cook Hall, The Bloomington Campus, or any part of therof, those people shall then, thenceforward, and forever be declared free; and the entire Hoosier Faithful of every part of The Great Indiana University, and collectively Hoosier Athletics, including all major and minor sports thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of such persons, and will do no act or acts, real or imagined, in person or on social media, including tweets, text messages, blogs, fan sites, and/or Facebook postings, to repress such persons, or any of them individually, in any efforts they may make to further their actual freedom from any hope, prayer, belief, hallucination, or nightmare that Coach Bob Knight will ever return.   And upon this act, sincerely believed to be an act of justice, and fully warranted by the Policy of *Glass-nost, upon necessity, I invoke the considerate judgment of Fankind, and the gracious favor of Almighty God." In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of The Five Banners to be affixed.   Done at the virtual Btownbanners.com of Bloomington Indiana, on this fifteenth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand fourteen:    To Declare that the third day of October, two thousand fourteen shall Henceforth and Forever be known as Independence Day  From The Spirits and The Demons of The Past for the Hoosier Faithful, who shall now be known as The Emancipated Fans of The Great Indiana University Men’s Basketball Team.   *Glass-nost - Indiana University Athletic Director Fred Glass’ policy permitting open discussion of athletics issues and freer dissemination of news and information.

Bob Kravitz leaving the Indy Star

Not that the dozen or so remaining readers of the Star dead-tree-media sports pages really care, but the Star probably needed to free up some cap space so they could re-hire Bill Benner from the Pacers.

What if Coach Knight had not been fired

The late Myles Brand, perhaps with encouragement/approval of key IU-Bloomington faculty, was DETERMINED to get rid of Coach Knight.   No. Matter. What.   Once Brand's mission/vendetta at IU was accomplished, he left IU in 2002 to become President of the NCAA in Indianapolis until his death on September 16, 2009.   Brand's repugnance of Knight continued at the NCAA, sometimes in laughable ways:   Coach Knight's photo (in Texas Tech garb) in the NCAA Hall of Champions in Indianapolis, was hung "In Exile" in a deserted corner, next to an access panel, at the end of a hallway, away from everything else!   Here's the image I snapped at the NCAA Hall on April 8, 2004: [attachment=1084:Knight in Exile 2004-04-08_0046.jpg]   And here's another angle: [attachment=1085:Coach Knight in Exile #2 2004-04-08_0048.jpg]
