General Coach Candidate News
Ghost of Rick Majerus replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm on record for saying I'll be excited with any decent coach we hire, but Cronin would be a tough one for me to get excited about. He is a good coach, and is definitely an upgrade over Woodson. I followed him closely when he was at UC because I lived in the area and had several family members who were Bearcat fans. The fan base never really cared for him or appreciated him (hence the reason he left for UCLA). He always had decent regular seasons but never did much in the tournament(1 sweet sixteen Appearance at UC in 13 years). And the only deep tournament run he had was year two at UCLA. It's definitely an upgrade, but I hope it doesn't fall that far. -

It's interesting to see it broke out like that. Thanks for doing that. I'm not defending Archie either, but I do agree that Archie worked his tail off. For whatever reason, it just didn't work out. I thought Archie was a solid hire when it was made and I'm still surprised by his results (or lack there of). -

Not saying I would believe, I'm just interested in all these reasons he lists. Curious if he is going to go down the "woe is me path" or actually man up and own his failures. -

Anybody else hear the announcers (Spero and Rafferty) when they said that Woodson gave them the many reasons for his retirement but asked them not to repeat them. I'm intrigued as to what he told them. -

It's an inside joke geared towards a former poster and not Luke Brown. The former poster started a thread called something like "Luke Brown is the next Damon Bailey" and posted on it at nauseam. I believe he was a relative or someone close to the family. -

Our buddy Thyme on X is saying he is coaching until the end of the year. Let's see if he deletes this tweet too. -

I was rereading an article of the potential coaching candidates from our last search when Archie was fired and I forgot how uninspiring it was. Porter Moser was one of the top candidates followed closely by Andy Enfield and Michael Lewis!! No doubt they would have probably been better than Woodson, but definitely not home run hires in my opinion. The point being, the list of potential candidates this time seems unequivocally better. There seems to be several choices that can be long term program changers, even if it drops to the 3rd or 4th choice. They have to get this one right and they should have no shortage of options. Could the stars finally be aligning ? I hope so! -

Stevens, May, Beard, McCollum, Pearl, Brownell, etc.... Anything has to be better than our current trajectory. I just want to be excited about watching IU basketball again. I want to be proud of the program again. I'm tired of seeing the Iowa States, Auburns and others excel while IU basketball will be fortunate to make the big ten tournament. -

I always try to understand the other side of an argument, even if I don't agree. But I just can't understand these guys or their point of view. But I guess when you can't defend Woodson and the direction of the program, blame the fan base. -

So if I am understanding these guys in the Twitter verse, the problem isn't Mike Woodson, it's the toxic fan base! So have we been the hump this whole time? ***Mind blown*** -

I really want Woodson to step down so we can see Armond Hill get the interim tag. -

Hahaha so true. Years of heartache and soul crushing poor decisions from our beloved Hoosiers makes a 7 year contract with Michael Lewis or a lifetime contract with Randy Wittman all seem like realistic expectations. -

I've been hiding this season because it's depressing to see our proud program in its current state. To be frank, I'm just tired of seeing this program underachieve while so many other programs have it figured out. Like all of you, I'm ready for a change. I was hopeful for one last year. That being said, I do sometimes still hold out hope that they will make the tournament this year. But then I ask myself why? Squeak into the tournament and then get embarrassed on national TV (i.e. St Marys, Miami). -

You aren't wrong with that assessment but I would never count out Brad Underwood. I think he is currently the best coach in the Big Ten. -

Yes! Another great example. It just seems to happen fairly often here. Whereas when Dusty May went to Michigan, I felt like there was no hope he would ever coach at IU. But if we were in the SEC, it wouldn't be a foreign thought. -

Calipari to Arkansas got me thinking today. I feel like several coaches throughout the years have moved from one school to another in the SEC. Tubby - GA to UK Eddie Sutton - AR -UK Bruce Pearl - TN to Auburn I'm sure there are more, but you get my point. Has this kind of stuff ever happened in the Big Ten? I can't recall it.
