Ghost of Rick Majerus replied to JaybobHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Announcers for tonight's game gushed about Woodson and what a great job he has done. They said Woodson told them he has averaged 21 wins a season and doesn't know why that isn't good enough. I shouldn't be surprised at his lack of awareness but I still am. -

We are Hoosiers fans, all of us. We understand your pessimistic opinion because of the last 25 years of this program. We are all conditioned to the let downs and disappointment. However, I am one of those you mentioned who believe we are going to get a good coach. The landscape has changed in basketball and this job has never looked more appealing than it is right now. That's why I have hope and I believe there certainly isn't a reason to work yourself up before any announcement have been made. That being said, if we come out on the other side with Darrin Horn or Andy Enfield, I will join you in disappointment. P.S. I think BS is very much in play. -

I may be mistaken, but didn't the staff think we would have another year of eligibility for Goode? You got to think he would be welcomed. -

We are on the same page. All those involved realize this is a make or break hire. Better times are ahead. -

Thanks for posting this. It's really some fascinating stats. Archie was the safe hire. He was young and had some success at a basketball school. While his personality was probably not the best fit, most people thought he would have a solid career (including myself). The guy worked his tail off, it just didn't work out. -

I agree with this. I don't know the process, so I am assuming here, but doesn't the athletic department handle most of the scheduling? No doubt they get input from the coach but I would assume the lions share is happening outside of the HC. I also assume that they have strict deadlines to keep in order to make these matchups happen so they can't really wait on a new coach. -

I really feel like we will be happy with whoever is picked as the coach. I think this is the most important hire for IU since Knight. The program can't afford another miss and Dolson knows this. I am still a firm believer that it will be Stevens (I posted my theory 200 pages back). That being said, we have the NIL to recruit the talent, we just need a tactician with a personality to handle the big stage at IU and I think there are many who would fit that criteria and excel. I've been struggling to put together my Wishlist of candidates and I finally did so today. I kept Jay Wright and Tony Bennett off the list because I think they are done with the current state of the game but I would love either. I also didn't add Dusty May because of the recent extension, but he was my #1 before that occurred. 1) Brad Stevens (obviously #1 and many believe not likely, but I am hopeful). 2) Scott Drew (if he can build a program in Baylor, Indiana should be easy) 3) Chris Beard (I get the controversy and the unlikelihood, but he would get this program rolling) 4) Josh Schertz - I just really like the guy. I think he gets it and I loved watching his Indiana State teams play. Lots of fun. Does he have the personality for the big stage? 5) Everyone else is a tie for me (Grant McCasland, Ben McCollum, TJ Otz, Mark Few) I firmly believe all these guys would kill it here. So give me anyone of these guys and let's go dominate again. -

I'd absolutely love seeing Drew to Indiana. But I think my favorite part about it would be that he turned down UK the year before.
