It's not easy being Tom Crean
chitown hoosier replied to Walking Boot of Doom's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
1. This is the problem. If you want to recruit in the grey area than in sure Crean could get 5 stars consistently. But our program would need to turn into the Kentuckys to compete. I for one don't want to be associated with such. 2. Once again, if we want our basketball programs to be like the Kentuckys, then our fan base has to come off their moral high road. Why would any top OAD recruit want to come to IU when they could be possibly suspended or kicked off the team for alcohol citations. 3. Some people don't want to give him a pass on his first 3 years but reasonable fans knew it was going to take at least 4 years to get his type of players. Am I satisfied with his overall performance as a coach? Somewhat but I also know hard it is to win by doing things the right way. This season just started and there's fans already wishing he was fired... -

Well if the secret is out of the bag already then just announce it already. -

A combination of rojo, cujo and newkirk is pretty good in my book. We definitely can use another guard but in creans system, there really is no true pg. there's always spring signings as well as transfer potential so if for some reason bb decides to go with Miami, we'll be ok. -
IU vs Austin Peay Post Game Thread

I do want to add that I agree Creighton is not going to be an easy game. They have some serious size on their team and they have always been well coached. Hopefully this team will be ready for them come Thursday. -

Im just happy that his years team has the players and size to play man to man this year instead of that dreaded zone. Yes we need to improve on d but you also have to give credit to some of their players. Horton was making tough shots and sometimes made Bryant look foolish. It's a learning process for him and it was just his second game. A lot of the top tier teams are struggling to find their game as well and some are doing that in a losing effort. We will find out a lot about this team and where they are exactly at Maui. I for one think they have a legitimate shot at winning the whole thing as long as they keep up the effort on D and not get lazy. -

Yes our d needs work but it was more a combination of taking too many chances and the other team just hitting tough shots. These are things that can be improved on through the season. Last year we were getting killed down low with uncontested shots. I'm more hopeful this year that our defense won't take us out of games. -
Highly underrated this year. They got shooters to go with their bigs. We match up better with them this year though.

IU vs. Michigan Post-Game Thread

When you have Jordan Howard, you give him the ball. It's so simple that I just don't understand. It's like the bonehead play by Seattle in the Super Bowl last year. -

We are basically the same team last year with a much improved and deeper front court. I loved how we won this game. I think we need to play even more of an inside out game. Very promising start to the season. -

Troy looks goods. Bryant is going to help us tremendously this year. Biggest takeaway for me was that OG will definitely contribute this year. He was everywhere. Kid must have added 20 lbs of muscle already.

(2016) PG Curtis Jones to IU
chitown hoosier replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yup. I know this is just lip service right now but these are the kids I want at IU too. Kids who know that it's going to take hard work to succeed. -

This can only help us with Bridges. Hopefully we can somehow pry him away -

(2016) SF Miles Bridges to MSU

This is going to be tough to beat out MSU and UK. Good thing he isn't going to visit UK for their blue madness. I give coach credit for even getting him to have us in the top 3. -
PITT Transfer Josh Newkirk is headed to IU!

I actually agree with 99% of the above post which boggles my mind. Let's wait and see before we write off these 2 commits. -
I'm worried about in-state recruiting.
chitown hoosier replied to FKfootball's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If this is true than why was Blackmon arguably the teams worst defender last year? Why was an east coast kid in Johnson better? I'd bet money that Bryant will be one of our best defenders this year. Defense is more about hustle and effort than having knowledge about defensive principles. -

1. Crean didn't go out of his way to recruit Sheehey. He fell into the picture because of the Melo recruitment. Will may not have been able to carry the team his senior year but he still was a solid 4 year guy and let's not forget that. It's hard for anyone to lead the team when they lose 4 starters from the previous year. 2. Few likes to give Crean any account for developing Olaidipo but it's funny how Victor himself praises Crean. I might not have any inside information but I think I could take a highly educated guess that Coach had something to do with his development. 3. Davis was not guilty of poor timing. He was drinking the night of the accident and made a stupid decision that almost killed him. Then he decides to have a "small baggie" of marijuana on him while he smokes up in the dorms. That is not poor timing. That is idiotic. If Crean hadn't gave him the boot then this whole board would be in uproar. There are many sides to the truth. It can be twisted whichever way to support ones beliefs. Doesn't mean anyone is right or wrong. -

You're contradicting yourself right now. These past champions either recruited all over or were heavily focused on the east coast. You can bring up wisconsins butlers Michigan states all you want but the simple fact is that they didn't win it all. No one remembers the runners up. -

Anyone else noticing how athletic OG is. I knew the kid had some hops but I didn't know he was that athletic. He looks to have a nice stroke as well. If he puts in the work he could become the next Dipo. -
Weak Indiana HS Senior Class

Let's not forget the guys who worked hard to bring IU back like watford and sheehey. Both out of state kids who represented IU well. -

I'm glad we never recruited Caleb Swanigan and his handler. From my memory the one year we did recruit a bunch of Indiana kids it turned out to be a bust. For every Bawa there's a Hollowell. -
IU-Rutgers Post Game Thread/Yogi Appreciation Thread
chitown hoosier replied to CampHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Hartman just needs to shoot when he's open instead of trying to drive the lane. Driving becomes a lot more easier after you hit a couple open threes. Can't complain about a win today but I saw a lot of guys getting hesitant to shoot because the shots weren't falling early. This lead to a lot of driving against a packed lane which is never good. They need to trust their shooting and keep hoisting up open shots. -

Sorry worded it wrong. Not going to be someone who we want to play regularly. May not be the smartest kid but basketball wise he is very very good
