Indiana v. Northwestern POSTGAME Thread
chitown hoosier replied to MartintheMopMan's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Jeff Goodman ESPN Insider Indiana has taken care of business since Big Ten play began -- but let's be honest. Schedule was forgiving early -- and in general in league play. Hoosiers have beaten Wisconsin, Ohio State, Illinois and Northwestern at home and Rutgers, Nebraska and Minnesota (three of league's bottom) on road. The four teams that IU gets twice this season: Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska and Minnesota. Again, props for Hoosiers for doing what was necessary -- but still haven't proven they are a Top 25 team again -- yet. Share 3h Sounds like the typical analyst who have yet to WATCH a game yet during this winning streak. It's not just who they've beaten but also HOW they've done it. So tired of this argument. Bring home another W at Wisconsin and really start shutting these so called experts up. -

I agree. People need to stop saying that Indiana is playing better D because JBJ is out. Everyone is stepping up their D, especially Yogi. I was hard on him earlier this year because guys were getting by him too easily causing switching and help d which led to too many easy shots. He's really shored up his defense. The only thing you can really state causative by JBJ being out is that OG and Juwon are getting more playing time. Those freshman really do a good job on defense. Both can also guard multiple positions. -

I love the fact that Indiana creates matchup problems this year instead of the other way around. This team can go big or small and exploit the other team defense. -
Wow, so now we should want a coach like calipari? I'm sorry. I would not be a fan nor a proud alumni if Indiana became a program that was led by that scum. The Sampson years almost made me stop supporting the program.

I personally don't think it will be close. 10+ easy victory IMO. Of course I can possibly eat crow later but I just think Indiana matches up better against them this year and I don't think they'll be able to keep up with this team. -
That's true but if you compare last years team to this years they are completely different. Last year Indiana was playing small ball and relied a lot on shooting. Defense was horrible and when you have Colin Hartman playing the 5 than its gonna be hard to win consistently. Hanner also got hurt but to compare Hanner with TB is light years in difference. This years team has shown it can win even with subpar offensive games and that's why I'm more hopeful this year. I've mentioned it before but this years team is so much well balanced. Barring any serious injuries, I just don't see a downfall in February and March like last years team.

So does this mean MSU is considered really bad? I mean they did just lose to two supposed really bad teams that IU beat. Or is Purdue bad since they lost to an Illinois team that Indiana clobbered? Indiana's doing what they need to do and beating the teams they are supposed to do. I have faith they will dismantle northwestern as well. This is the best start IU has had in the b1g since the final four team. At this point, shouldn't we as fans be at least satisfied with the start instead of being Debbie downers on the easy schedule?
-
Yeah...say whatever you want about the easy scheduling, Indiana took care of business.

Why is sparty ranked so high? I still don't see anything special about them other than Valentine.

Lol. What a lucky break.

This team is so well balanced. I think even the analysts are starting to realize how good Indiana has become especially since tightening up their defense. They might not win every game but will be a tough out for anybody. -

Omg. Dakich just stated he had a lot to do with the recruiting that led to the downfall of Indiana? I'm in shock. -

Dakich is being a tool this game. Trying to undermine Yogis accomplishment by stating he's a 4 year player. He needs to shut up at times. -

Awesome. Congrats Yogi! -
Man that kid Tyler Roberson was like Dennis Rodman out there. I wouldn't be upset if Indiana had a kid like that.

(2016) PG Devonte Green to INDIANA

This kid is putting up some numbers. If he plays D like his coach says than I have a feeling he's going to be a fan favorite at IU. -
Through 5 b1g games, I have yet to see OG overmatched defensively against anyone and it's not like he's been gaurding chump change competition either. Does he make freshman mistakes at times? Sure, but he has the length and athleticism to at least pressure whoever he guards. He's a good one and so is Morgan. I can't say bad things about Gelon because I have yet to see how he plays with an Indiana jersey, but I would much rather see recruits like OG who also "get it" that have a higher ceiling.
-
I think IU matches up at lot better against Iowa than MSU. TB should be able to at least neutralize Woodbury as long as he doesn't get poked in the eye... Gessel is good but he's no Yogi and the way Yogi has stepped up his defense should be an advantage for IU. The main question is how to defend Utoff and Jok. I don't think Hartman will be able to defend either of these guys well. You're right, OG and Morgan are going to have to be key players against them. Whoever is gaurding Utoff can't help on D because the kid is pretty automatic as it gets.

Just shows how tough winning on the road in the b1g is. I know some are diminishing the road wins so far because of scheduling but this team is pulling out the W's.

There seems to be a trend when both teams play on the same date, UK loses every time IU wins. I like it!

UK down 3 44 secs. Come on. Make it a great Saturday!
