Prediction League (Game 18 - Purdue 1/20/22)
BottomLine replied to Str8Hoosiers's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Kills me to pick against the Hoosiers, but we have a lot going against us. Don't expect Jackson-Davis to be 100%. Point guard play will kill us down the stretch. The Purdue winning streak will put a hex on us. On the other hand we are at home and Coach WILL BE WEARING A SUIT. IU - 73 Purdue - 74 -
Don't see much hope at point guard. Johnson - Terrible shot. Overly emotional. Every wild shot, drive into traffic, off balance beg for a foul from the refs is a turnover. Phinissee - Can handle the ball against the press but can't shoot a lick. Been trying to get the job done for 3 1/2 years. Gonna suddenly get the job done now? Wouldn't bet on it. Landers - On the way to being a bust. This team is begging for a point guard and he can't get off the bench. That just tells you something. Galloway - He is a wing pressed into service as a guard. Pressing him into service as a point guard is asking far too much. The handle just isn't there. Against the press he is a deer in the headlights. Outside shot is also suspect. Leave him on the wing where he can slash and dish or shoot that drop shot. Bates - Is the only one that might have the chops. Offensively I think he might be an improvement on what we have. Don't know about the defense. I'd give him more time and see if any thing develops. Can't see any other way out of this problem. Who would have thought that losing Durham and Franklin would hurt us this much.

Prediction League (Game 16 - Iowa 1/13/22)
BottomLine replied to Str8Hoosiers's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Can IU win this game? Yes! Will I be pulling for the Hoosiers? You betcha! Am I going to pick them? Nope! Despite our much improved defense, we are going up against the #3 offense in the country. We have yet to prove we can win on the road and we will certainly be facing a hostile crowd. We are going to slow Iowa down but the question is whether our offense is good enough to catch up. See this game looking a lot like the Penn State game where we end up saying, "Don't these guys ever miss?" Hope I'm wrong. IU 74 U of I 77 -

It comes down to Johnson. He plays smart we win. If he plays "hero ball" or puts up crazy shots we lose. Indiana 73 OSU 72 -

Notre Dame has defeated - Cal St Northridge, Hight Point, Chaminade, and Kentucky. That tells you something about how bad Kentucky is this year and not how good Notre Dame is. Hope we don't get sluggish after pulling all-nighters during finals. Hoosiers 75 Them Irish guys 67 -

How in the world do you pick this game? We play like the first half a Wisconsin we win by 60. We play like the second half and we lose. IU 76 Civil War Confederate ironclad 52 -
I don't have time to read 34 page of rants so I'll just add my 2 cents and be on my way. 1. For those who wanted to see Lander at the end, I think coach has seen enough for now. Couldn't get a pass off or a shot at the end of the 1st overtime at Syracuse and then made the foul at the end of the 2nd to cost us the win, when Jackson-Davis was in position to block the shot. Not plays made by a gamer. The trust is gone. 2. Johnson can be our best point guard but he flat out lost this game for us and coach let him do it. Very disappointed. From the time he reentered the game for the last time all he did was play 1 on 5 glory ball. He just kept crashing into the lane and throwing up crazy shots. Coach shouldn't have put up with that ****. If Johnson didn't want to take on the responsibility of a point guard Coach should have put his a** back on the bench. The message should have been plain. Do it my way or don't play. Phinisee may not be as good as Johnson but at that point in the game he would have been looking for the open man instead of trying to be a hero. Rant over.

Boy I hate this - my heart against my head. We never win up there. Wisconsin has played a stronger schedule. We can win this one and I'll be on my knees in front of the TV trying to urge the Hoosier on. However, my head says not this year. Wisconsin 73 Good Guys 66 Still rooting for the upset. -

Against chump of the weeks we play great defense. Against anyone else we don't do so well. Nebraska is probably somewhere in the middle. Offense is starting to come around. Home cooking. Home calls? Something to prove. Hope we aren't looking ahead. Take 'em one at a time! Hoosiers 81 Them Guys 68 -

First away game. The curse of '87. This should be a close one and to this point only 3 brave prognosticators have picked the Orangemen. You are all a bunch of homers - me too. 74-72 Hoosiers -

Prediction League (Game 3 - St John's 11/17/21)
BottomLine replied to Str8Hoosiers's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
This game could cause my head to explode. 40 minutes of hell press from St John's could lead to racehorse basketball or a game of sloppy basketball. St Johns averaging 105 points/game and shooting 48% from 3. Can our defense slow them down? Will our offense be up to the task. I think we will win but a loss wouldn't be a shock. Like where our heads are. 79-70 Hoosiers -
Prediction League (Game 2 - Northern Illinois 11/12/21)
BottomLine replied to Str8Hoosiers's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Can't win this one. Can't lose this one. B.S. Indiana 1969. M.S. Northern Illinois 1976. Northern hasn't been good in basketball for several decades. The football team could probably beat the Hoosiers in a down year. OTOH a lot of schools could make that claim. Look for both the offense and defense to improve on our first game. I figure 78-60 Hoosiers. -
Prediction League (Game 1 - Eastern Michigan 11/9/21)
BottomLine replied to Str8Hoosiers's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
New coach, new players, new offense, new defense, players coming back from injury, coach will want to see every one play. This not opening with Indiana State though. Woody will want to win this one. 90-68 Hoosiers -
My understanding is that college men's basketball rosters are limited to 13 scholarship players. However. the NCAA has granted an extra year of eligibility to all the players that played last year. That means that the number of college players is going to increase next year (5th year seniors + incoming freshmen). In fact the number should remain higher for the next 4 years until the "extra" year players are out of the system. My question is whether the max limit on players is going to be increased. Will the "extra" year players count against the number of scholarships? While IU only has a one freshman class, it may have a major impact on a number of programs, depending on the rule.

Mike Woodson to be next IUBB coach. Thad Matta to be associate AD
BottomLine replied to iubb's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Indiana has just hired the most experienced coach in program history. 1. Started at IU for 4 years 2. 2000+ career scorer 3. All American 4. 11 year NBA player and 10,000+ scorer 5. 14 year NBA coach - head coach of 2 teams 6. From Indiana and member of Indiana basketball hall of fame. So he lacks college experience but he has been successful at everything he has done in the past. If he hadn't have been successful his career as a player and coach would have been very brief. To have a 25 year professional career means that he has been able to develop relationships and is respected. Wonder if the others that might have been suggested for the IU job could have matched the success that Woodson has had. The next level up from college is littered with "great" players and coaches the washed out very quickly. Mike Woodson has earned a chance to turn the IU program around and those that can't see that are idiots. NOBODY can see the future
