    2020 General Recruiting Thread

Lynn Greer III When watching Roman Catholic (Pa.) this season, one aspect will become very apparent from the outset: Lynn Greer III is the unquestioned leader on the court. Heading into his third straight season as a starter and having been a main part of the rotation since his freshman year, the 6-foot-3 point guard is taking greater command of the Cahillites with the departure of Hakim Hart (Maryland) and Seth Lundy (Penn State). Greer III, who received an offer from the Nittany Lions before even stepping onto the court for Roman Catholic, scored 18 points and dished out three assists in the Cahillites’ 67-44 loss to the Patrick School at Philly Live II on Friday night. The four-star recruit is the No. 95 ranked prospect in the class of 2020, according to Rivals.com. He holds a number of offers but said Florida, Villanova, Wake Forest, Indiana and Miami (Fl.) are the schools that are recruiting him the most. He has an official visit set to Florida Sept. 7-9, he told Pat Lawless. Villanova head coach Jay Wright was on-hand to take in Greer III’s performance against the Patrick School and the senior noted that Wright “has reached out to me directly.” Wright has a history of bringing in high-ranked recruits out of the Roman Catholic program, notably Maalik Wayns, who was a McDonald’s All-American in 2009 and played three seasons with the Wildcats. He also holds offers from Iowa, Oregon, St. Joseph’s and Temple, where his father played for five seasons and scored over 2,000 points. Greer III is set to announce his top five schools in the next few weeks but regardless of any new offers that come in, he’s going to take the process slow to find the most optimal landing spot. “I don’t worry too much about who’s offering me,” Greer III said. “I just want to play my best basketball and whoever decides to offer me, they’ll offer me. The school I’ll go to will be the best fit for me.” While playing alongside Hart and Lundy, Greer III helped Roman Catholic win two Philadelphia Catholic League titles and a PIAA Class 6A title in 2018. Despite the loss of those two, the Cahillites return a lot of talent including 6-10 sophomore Jalen Duren, who won a gold medal with the USA U16 team in Brazil earlier this month and was invited to the Nike Elite 100 camp, sophomore Justice Williams, who has also spent time with USA Basketball, and 6-7 sophomore Christian Kirkland, who transferred in from Friends Select School (Pa.). Greer III’s senior season holds more intrigue than merely where he chooses to play next. After his sophomore season, he chose to transfer to Oak Hill Academy (Va.), a program that has produced players such as Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony. After being enrolled for a few months, he chose to return to Roman Catholic before the start of his junior year. He was ruled ineligible to play in the state tournament due to a new PIAA transfer rule that was put in place prior to the season. Without Greer III, the Cahillites fell short of a second straight state title by falling to league rival, La Salle in the quarterfinals. Now he’s focused on being the leader of the team and bringing this new group together.“I think we’re going to be a very good team,” Greer III said. “We just have to get to know each other a little bit more because there’s a lot of new guys. As we play together, we’ll get better.”

Here's some unexpected Pacers news - Indiana Pacers point guard Darren Collison has decided to retire from the NBA after 10 seasons to focus on being a Jehovah's Witness. The 31-year-old Collison played for the Pacers the last two seasons. He told ESPN's The Undefeated in a letter Friday that he decided to retire primarily to concentrate on helping the less fortunate through his faith. "While I still love basketball, I know there is something more important, which is my family and my faith," he wrote. "I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses and my faith means everything to me. I receive so much joy from volunteering to help others and participate in a worldwide ministry. The joy I feel is unmatched." Collison was on verge of becoming an unrestricted free agent. He averaged 12.5 points and 5.0 assists in 708 games with the New Orleans Hornets, Dallas Mavericks, LA Clippers, Sacramento Kings and Pacers. He was drafted out of UCLA in 2009 and was named an All-NBA rookie the following year.

    (2020) PF/C - Dawson Garcia to Minnesota

Corey Evans - Garcia has been talked about plenty in recent months, and the priority prospect from Minnesota could easily have ended his recruitment and decided to stay in his home state. Instead, Garcia stayed patient with the process and - thanks to his standout play at the USA Basketball under-19 trials and the dearth of quality forwards in the 2020 class - his offers have only gotten bigger and better. Originally, programs such as Baylor, Indiana, Marquette, Minnesota, Ohio State, Purdue and Texas threw their hats into the mix. But then came June, when the bluebloods jumped into the picture. Arizona offered in May, but then came offers from Kansas and North Carolina. Texas Tech also offered, and Duke and Kentucky might be next. Whatever the case, not many have boosted their stock more in the past 30 days than Garcia.

(2021) SF Terrence Clarke to Kentucky

Brian Snow on Clarke at the Nike Elite 100 event - Name: Terrence Clarke Position: Shooting Guard 247Sports Composite Ranking: No. 3 Recruiting: Indiana, Connecticut, Kentucky, Kansas, UCLA, Texas Tech, Syracuse and more It was a little bit of a slow start for Clarke who arrived late, but by the final day, he had his game in top form. Clarke showed why he is one of the elite prospects in the country with his size and ability to score from all over. He isn’t the best jump shooter yet, but he can really get to the rim, is great in the mid-range, and then also is a very good passer. On defense, when he got locked in, he was tremendous as well.

(2021) PG Khristian Lander to Western Kentucky U.

Brian Snow on Lander at the Nike Elite 100 event - Name: Khristian Lander Position: Point Guard 247Sports Composite Ranking: No. 16 Recruiting: Indiana, Louisville, Illinois, Kansas, Purdue, Ohio State, Iowa The Indiana native got off to a little bit of a slow start, but the final few days of camp he was tremendous. Lander has good size, excellent athleticism, and then he was really making shots. Also, Lander did a good job of not shot jacking, and getting his teammates involved. He is one of the fastest players in the country with the ball, and now that his shot is coming along, Lander looks nearly impossible to defend. Add in that he continues to grow, and there is a lot to like about his long term future.

(2022) PF Jalen Washington to UNC

From the Nike Elite 100 event - JALEN WASHINGTON (2022/WEST SIDE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY) Washington is the epitome of the term upside. He measured in at 6’7 without shoes while sporting a wingspan in excess of 7’2, and looks every bit of it. Jalen displayed a very smooth game, he didn’t dominate the ball and still produced efficiently. The sophomore knocked down jumper after jumper from distance and midrange with gorgeous rotation and arch. Because of the high release point in tandem with his length, it’s nearly impossible to contest Washington’s shot. Jalen showed a solid handle in space and appears to have some potential in that regard. Hailing from the Northwestern portion of Indiana known as ‘The Region’, he also embraced the toughness that is often associated with the area. Washington came up with multiple offensive rebounds followed by several putbacks utilizing both hands. When watching Jalen live, one can’t help but to be reminded of the younger version of former Ohio State standout Keita Bates-Diop in terms of style of play, physical profile and two-way ceiling.

I'd be surprised if Damon is truly interested in the pressure cooker of being on staff. He seems very content with his life in Bedford. His time at Butler coincided with his daughter's time on the Butler team and as I recall he stepped away not too long before his daughter announced she was ending her career due to injuries.

IMO, you make a contact with Lewis. Didn't he take a job with ?? and then jumped shortly thereafter to his gig at Butler? IMO you also make a call to Guyton. Out of courtesy I suppose you contact Fife but that's as far as that one will go - a courtesy call. Oddly, I'm really not that fired up about Calbert as an assistant. Those are my thoughts if we're going after an IU guy but IMO, that's not a mandatory requirement.

    IU Track and Field

The Indiana women are underrated. They have quietly been one of the better distance programs as of late in a BIG 10 conference that is seemingly growing more and more competitive with each passing year. However, despite their grand success, the Lady Hoosiers will enter 2019 with a lack of experience and firepower. With veterans like Katherine Receveur and Margaret Allen out of eligibility, Coach Helmer will be looking to replenish his squad with enough talent to keep them competitive in the ultra-loaded BIG 10 conference and Great Lakes region. Luckily, the Indiana women bring in a very strong recruiting class when it comes to the distance events. While they may not have quite the depth that the Texas men have, it's clear these incoming freshmen have enough talent to keep the Hoosiers in contention. I want to first begin with Mikaela Ramirez, the California native who can seemingly do it all. The Ayala High School graduate has extensive range, but her real talent lies at the longer distances which is exactly what Indiana needs. The 29th place finisher at NXN owns a three mile PR of 16:29 (which roughly converts to a 17:04 5k) and could bring some very valuable championship experience to the Midwest powerhouse. We saw last year how impactful freshmen women can be when it comes to varsity lineups. if you think I'm making that up, just think back to Katrina Robinson, Anne Forsyth, Jacqueline Gaughan, and Camille Davre. It is entirely realistic that Ramirez could be a super valuable scorer on a consistent basis in her first year as a Hoosier. However, Ramirez may be best suited for the track. With a 4:48 PR, she is already one of the better milers on this team. When paired up with rising senior Kelsey Harris (who owns a 2:03 PR for 800 meters), the idea of a potential DMR becomes extremely intriguing, especially since Ramirez has enough range to run any of the three distance legs. Speaking of distance medley relays, let's talk about Elizabeth Stanhope. The incoming freshman has respectable PR's across nearly every discipline, but it's her 800 PR that really captures my attention. With middle distance specialist Haley Harris out of eligibility, and Kelsey Harris nearing that same point, Indiana is in desperate need of additional help at the middle distances...well, at least they were. Stanhope will enter Bloomington with a monster personal best of 2:06 and become an immediate contributor for Indiana starting this winter (assuming she isn't redshirted). Between her, Ramirez, and Kelsey Harris, the potential for an All-American bid in the DMR this winter isn't out of the question. Although Ramirez and Stanhope own top-tier times and have the potential to be early-career contributors, women like Abby Green and Gracie Sprankle are more than capable of making names for themselves. The two rising freshmen hold similar resumes when it comes to personal bests. Their 3200 PR's are only separated by a second (10:38 and 10:39) and their 1600 PR's are only split by four seconds (4:58 and 5:02). In a year where Indiana will take any help they can get, both Green and Sprankle will step in as key pieces for the upcoming cross country season. Last fall, the Hoosiers thrived off of their upfront scoring potency and veteran low-sticks. However, their depth was lacking and it was often a reason why they were unable to hang with their conference rivals. Luckily, both Green and Sprankle will have the opportunity to soften those scoring flaws by adding additional depth to the lineup. Sprankle brings unmatched consistency to the collegiate level after winning a total of 43 races (41 finals) during her high school career. During the 2017 cross country season, she won eight races in a nine meet span. It may be fair to suggest that she hasn't always been pushed, leaving us to believe that she could have incredible potential over the next four to five years. When you pair her up with Abby Green, Indiana can boast that they recruited two of the state's best young distance runners. Transitioning back to the middle distances, we have Shynae Deas, the 800 meter standout from Ohio who owns a 2:10 PR. Much like Stanhope, Deas will help revamp an aging middle distance group that has made some serious noise over the past few seasons. Both Stanhope and Deas will be joined by incoming freshman Maria Anderson who split 2:14 on a 4x800. Together, these three women give IU a lot to be excited about. We don't know for sure how the Hoosiers will rebound this year after losing their top two superstar distance runners. However, we do know that the future looks bright for the women from Bloomington, Indiana. With potential low-sticks, improved depth, and a reloaded middle distance corps, there is a lot to like about Ron Helmer's future squad.
