Adding insult to injury for Kansas State -- strength coach Ben O'Donnell tore his Achilles yesterday and had to have surgery today. The team bus also broke down before the game. Some coaches walked to the arena. Not sure how they're getting to the airport.

There may actually be a high school basketball season in Illinois and then again there may not. Confusion still reigns in the state but at least some schools may be able to play a few games. This is part of today's announcement: The Illinois High School Association announced on Wednesday that basketball season will start immediately and run until March 13. Teams will need seven days of practice before they can play games and the schools must be in COVID-19 regions that have reached Phase 4. Basketball won’t have any postseason. Local school districts still have the authority to cancel this limited season in its entirety if they so desire. There is also a major question mark as to what the Chicago Public School system will do. https://chicago.suntimes.com/high-school-sports/2021/1/27/22252908/high-school-basketball-ihsa-coronavirus -

Some possible changes to the current dead period in recruiting may be forthcoming. The following from Pete Thamel We should see an update soon on the end of the NCAA's recruiting dead period, which is slated through Apr 15. A note sent to administrators obtained by @YahooSports indicates a recommendation for a quiet period -- "depending on medical guidance"-- in all sports Apr. 16-June 30 A "quiet period" means there can be on-campus visits. The DI Council will have an "action item" in March on whether coaches will be able to go out recruiting in July. That's obviously the biggest month annually for basketball recruiting. (They'll discuss this in February). Here's the feel that the NCAA is giving: "A consistent, gradual approach to ending the temporary recruiting dead period would be ideal, and that such an approach will be driven by medical guidance...." The "Quiet Period" depends on that guidance.

(2022) - SG Chris Livingston
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
This kid has totally slipped through the cracks. His thread was started in May and in July, he and his twin brother left Case Western Reserve and transferred back to Buchtel HS in Akron the same school they had transferred from to attend Case Western. A fact my secretary failed to tell me. Since we're not hearing his name mentioned I'm assuming our offer is meaningless; nonetheless, here's an update on the kid. Buchtel went 20-8 in 2018-19 with Chris Livingston playing a key role as a freshman. The team won the Akron City Series title and rolled through the Division II district and regional tournaments before falling to eventual state champion Trotwood-Madison in the semifinals. Chris Livingston was named the City Series and the Northeast Ohio Inland District Division II Player of the Year in 2019 and also received All-Ohio honors. He averaged 24.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steal per game. He played in 25 games as a sophomore at Western Reserve Academy, averaging 32.5 points, 12.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.9 steals and 1.4 blocks per game. The Pioneers went 13-16 playing a mix of Ohio high school teams as well as traveling prep schools. His best game came in a 76-65 win over Bristolville Bristol as he piled up 50 points, 20 rebounds, eight steals and five blocked shots. That was among six 40-point games. He was selected as a MaxPreps Sophomore All-American first team pick. Article on Braeden Moore by Alec Lasley most of which is behind the Rivals paywall but these parts aren't. Indiana is a program that has been in contact with Moore previously, but has recently started to become increasingly more involved, as have programs like Baylor and Virginia. The 6-foot-8 forward is averaging 20.8 points and 8.9 rebounds per game while shooting 39 percent from three to start his junior season. -

Indiana University redshirt junior diver Andrew Capobianco and freshman diver Anne Fowler were honored as Big Ten Divers of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon. Andrew Capobianco B1G Men's Diver of the Week The Holly Springs, N.C., native continues to dominate in the early stages of the 2020-21 season, racking up two more victories against No. 17 Ohio State. He compiled season-best performances in both the 1-meter (417.00) and 3-meter (473.55) events against the Buckeyes. Both scores secured NCAA 'A' Standard marks for the reigning NCAA 3-meter champion. Capobianco has been named the Diver of the Week for the fourth time in his illustrious Indiana career after securing the nod last week as well. Anne Fowler B1G Women's Diver of the Week Fowler, the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week, upped her standard by winning both the 1-meter (356.10) and the 3-meter (372.75) events against No. 14 Ohio State. Her 1M score broke the program's dual meet record, made her the third-ranked IU performer in the history of the event, and ranks as the fifth-best overall score in Indiana women's diving history. Her 3M score ranks her as the team's fifth-best performer in the event and narrowly missed the dual meet record. Both scores set NCAA 'A' Standard marks. She is the first IU female diver to earn this weekly award from the conference since Jessica Parratto on Jan. 30, 2019. Indiana will be back in the pool on Feb. 6 for a three-team competition featuring host Purdue and Rutgers. -

If TJD comes back / if Joey stays another year / if Armaan takes another step up / if the freshmen take an Armaan step forward / if Parker is a 3- point shooter / if we land a grad transfer / if no one transfers out / if, if and more ifs. Way too many ifs for this Old Fart to believe next season will be appreciably better. My rose colored bifocals have become a dull gray. -

Story on just how good Montverde Academy is. Two No. 1 ranked teams, Montverde Academy and Orlando Christian Prep, are closing in on historic achievements with their win streaks. Montverde (15-0), the independent powerhouse that sits again in a familiar position as the national No. 1 ranked team, has won 40 consecutive games going into its Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament, now a two-weekend showcase that opens Thursday night. If the Eagles win their Thursday game against Legacy Early College (9-7) of South Carolina, they will equal the 41-game winning streak their program compiled in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. Montverde was 30-0 in 2006-07 to launch that run, which set an Orlando area record. Montverde meets a top 25 team, La Lumiere School (3-4) of Indiana, on Friday in day two of the MAIT and can surpass its own record. The Eagles will have homecourt rematches with fifth-ranked Oak Hill Academy (13-1) of Virginia on Saturday and second-ranked Sunrise Christian Academy (12-1) of Kansas on Friday, Feb. 5. OCP, which is ranked No. 1 in Florida for all FHSAA classifications, is right behind Montverde with 39 wins in a row and counting. The Warriors, 19-0 this season, were scheduled to play the top-ranked team in Class 3A, Fort Lauderdale Calvary Christian, in a home game Saturday night as part of “The Invitational” showcase event. But that game was canceled by OCP due to school COVID-19 concerns.inter Haven 51-49 in 1957. -

Gotta shake off the rust of a 10-day break and face the #21/22 ranked Wildcats (8-2) (6-2). Radio Live Stats ABOUT THE WILDCATS Northwestern is on a four-game win streak after a 73-54 win over Illinois on Thursday night. Junior guard Veronica Burton leads the way with 17.4 points per game and 4.7 steals per contest. Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year Lindsay also adds double figures with 15.3 points per game while junior guard/forward Sydney Wood adds 14.2 points and a team-high 5.9 rebounds. NOTES Indiana returns to the court after a 10-day break. Last week's games against Rutgers and Michigan State were postponed due to COVID concerns within their opponent's programs. IU is coming off a 66-45 win over Purdue at Mackey Arena on January 14th. Junior guard Grace Berger led the way with 22 points, seven assists and five rebounds which earned her a spot on the Big Ten Player of the Week honor roll. Sophomore forward Mackenzie Holmes added 20 points and tied a team-high six rebounds. The Hoosiers are looking to reverse course with the Wildcats on Sunday after losing the last three in the series. Two of the last four games between the two schools has gone in to overtime and three of the last four games have been decided by six points or less. Holmes and Berger lead the effort on the offensive end for Indiana this season. Holmes is the team's leading scorer with 17.5 points per game while Berger adds 15.4 points per contest. The duo has combined to lead the Hoosiers in scoring. Defense continues to dominate for Teri Moren's team this season, as it ranks second in the Big Ten in scoring defense by allowing just 55.6 points per game. The Hoosiers have allowed just two teams in 11 games to score over 70 points and have held opponents to under 60 points in eight contests. UP NEXT The Hoosiers head back to Bloomington on Thursday, Jan. 31 against Michigan State. Tipoff and TV designation is still to be determined.
