I watched a replay of the above game. The article says Livingston scored 15 in the 4th Q but in reality, he scored 15 in the last 5:20 of the game. He scored his 26 points on 9-23 FG; 4-12 on 3s; 4-5 FG; 12 reb; 3 asst; 2 stl; 1 blk; 3 TO. Stern from Walsh Jesuit who recorded his 1,000 career point in the game scored 22 pts. mostly in the paint going around or over Livingston who's the rim protector for Buchtel. -

Three Hoosiers Lock Down Big Ten Athlete of the Week The Big Ten Conference announced their weekly track & field honors on Wednesday and Indiana Track & Field had three Hoosiers secure athlete of the week honors, Rikkoi Brathwaite, Maddy Pollard, and Nathan Stone. This is the second week of the season Indiana has seen someone on the list. Brathwaite was named Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week while Pollard was tabbed for Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week. Stone rounded out the trio and was named Big Ten Co-Field Athlete of the Week. This past weekend Pollard competed in her first shot put competition. Pollard launched for a distance of 17.22m (56' 6") to come in second behind teammate Khayla Dawson who was competing unattached. Her mark is the second best of the season in the Big Ten and ranks No. 4 in the NCAA so far this season. Brathwaite added on to his personal best at Hoosier Hills where he clocked a time of 6.63 in the 60m. He won the event and now has the fastest time in the Big Ten and is tied for fourth nationally so far this season. Stone also set a new personal record in the pole vault after clearing a height of 5.42m (17' 9.25"). He finished in second this past weekend behind teammate Adam Coulon who competed in the event unattached. Stone's mark sits atop the Big Ten and No. 6 in the NCAA through three weeks of competition. Up next, the Hoosiers will have a split weekend on Feb. 12 and Feb. 13. The jumpers and pole vaulters will head to Iowa for the Hawkeye B1G Invitational while the rest of the squad will travel to Geneva, Ohio for the B1G SPIRE Invitational inside the SPIRE Institute which is the location for the 2021 Big Ten Indoor Track & Field Championships. -

Buchtel defeated by Walsh Jesuit 79-78. Game story from Akron Beacon Journal After a record-setting night spent muscling past double-teams to score and rebound, Walsh Jesuit senior forward Erik Stern received his toughest assignment late in the fourth quarter. It ultimately paid off, as the Warriors defeated Buchtel 79-78 in what Stern called one of his team’s best signature wins. But down the stretch, Warriors coach Kevin Byrne made sure Stern was the one guarding Buchtel’s Chris Livingston, one of Ohio’s most notable recruits who has drawn interest from several major Division I programs. The Griffins (11-3) trailed by double digits at one point in the fourth quarter, but it was Livingston’s heroics — and 26 points, 15 in the fourth quarter — that nearly won the Griffins the game. Senior forward Dom Grguric spent much of the game guarding Livingston, but when Livingston had the ball with under a minute to go, the Warriors (15-3) wanted the 6-foot-8 Stern on Livingston instead. Behind 79-77, Livingston’s first attempt at what could’ve been a go-ahead basket rimmed out as Stern guarded him on the perimeter, but the Griffins fell on a loose ball and were rewarded with possession with 7.3 seconds remaining. But there was Stern again — with a little help from a teammate who helped him double Livingston — forcing Livingston to pass away the final possession to Buchtel senior guard Noah Peeples. Peoples drew a foul and had a chance to tie the game with two free throws, but his second foul shot missed. Buchtel snagged the rebound and heaved a desperation shot after the missed free throw, but it fell wide of the basket and the Warriors escaped with the win. “I can’t say enough about the way Dom played … but at the end, it was time to get a little bigger body on [Livingston] and hope for the best,” Byrne said. “We were able to get a couple misses on him after he hit a couple really tough ones.” The game was particularly special for Stern, as he became just the seventh player in Walsh Jesuit’s history to score 1,000 or more points. His athletic, practically acrobatic shot to reach 1,000 points came in the fourth quarter as Livingston guarded him. Moments later, during a timeout, the fans who were allowed in the gym all raised signs with “1,000” printed on them. After the game’s dramatic finish, Stern stuck around on the court to sign a few of the posters and posed for pictures. “I know there’s been a lot of great players that have come through this program,” Stern said, “so I’ve got to credit all my teammates that put me in a good position to do what I do out there.” Byrne was hired in 2018 with Stern was already on the team, so he’ll have to find another lengthy player to trust in crucial moments next year like he trusts Stern this year. Until then, he said he can expect consistency from his senior forward, and not just on defense. Stern finished the night with a team-high 22 points. “You almost have to double [Stern] down there, but he’s such a good passer that you have to pick your poison,” Byrne said. “He brings it every single night. I can’t remember the last time he had a bad game. He’s just always somewhere between really good and really, really good. You see when you watch him, he makes the right decision almost every time.” It wasn’t just the final quarter that made for exciting basketball. The Warriors opened the game ahead by five but found themselves in an early hole when the Griffins went on a 9-0 run. Buchtel sophomore guard Marcel Boyce Jr., who scored 24 points, scored twice during that period, and he was also aided by Peeples, who scored six of his 13 points in the first quarter. Still, the Warriors tied the score and then took the lead with two baskets from junior forward Kole Kuczynski, and Stern scored four more points and assisted on another shot to close out the quarter. It was a lead the Warriors never relinquished. That’s not to say the Griffins went dormant. Livingston, who was held scoreless in the first quarter, opened the second quarter by zipping a pass inside to sophomore guard Tajh Poole, who made it a one-point game. After the Warriors scored on two consecutive possessions, Livingston made a long two-point shots and rattled off the next five points for Buchtel. Peeples also scored on a shot inside and two free throws, and Livingston found Poole again inside for another two points. But the Warriors kept their balanced offensive attack rolling. Grguric, Ben Ligan, and Tyler Halligan all made 3-pointers in the second period, and Stern kept pace from inside with four points in the quarter. In the third, junior guard Rico Pickett got going with seven points, including a buzzer-beating floater to close out the quarter. The Warriors had four scorers with double-digit points (Pickett 19, Kuczynski 14, Grguric 12) and simply held off the Griffins long enough to win. Despite limited attendance due to COVID-19 restrictions, Byrne noticed a different energy in this game that’s been almost absent in others. “One time we screwed something up and my player was like, ‘I can’t hear you.’ That’s the first time all year,” Byrne said. “It had a big-game feel to it. It was a great high school basketball game that came right down to the very end.” -
(2022) - PF Tyler Nickel to North Carolina

Story on last night's game. It took less than a minute for the first bucket and only 23 seconds for the next one. “When he’s in that kind of mood, no one is stopping him,” said East Rockingham junior point guard Cooper Keyes of his fellow junior teammate and standout guard Tyler Nickel. “He’s just making shots and he did that tonight.” Nickel, a 6-foot-8 guard that is considered the best player in the Shenandoah Valley, erupted for a career-high 46 points as the top-seeded Eagles throttled fifth-seeded Buffalo Gap 76-46 in the Region 2B semifinals in Elkton. It was the sixth time Nickel has eclipsed the 40-point mark in his career and broke his previous scoring high of 45 that he set in a win over rival Spotswood last season in Penn Laird. His 46 points also set a program single-game record. “When I see that look in his eyes and he’s feeling it, we’re going to get him the ball every time down,” East Rockingham coach Carey Keyes said. “Gap, man, just kept coming back at us. [Bison point guard Tanner] Rivenburg is a great player and we couldn’t put them away. Tyler got crazy hot. We started calling simple little quick hitters for him to get him some space and he didn’t need a lot of it. The guys know. That’s the thing about our team. We’re unselfish. Guys want to win and they know he’s a special player. When he gets on fire like that, they’re going to find him.” After Nickel scored eight points to help the Eagles begin the game with an 11-0 run, the Bison relied heavily on the play of their senior point guard Rivenburg to chip away at the lead and cut the deficit to three heading to the second. But each time Gap started to gain any sort of confidence, East Rock — spearheaded by Nickel — responded. That included an 18-2 run in the second quarter that doubled the Bison’s total and seemingly put the game away. “We all realize the severity of win-or-go-home at this point,” said Nickel, who also had five rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks in the win. “We know how important every single game is. Every game we play is a state-tournament game in our eyes. That plays a role in how serious we are and how unsatisfied we are with just getting to states.” After a difficult regular-season schedule against only Class 3 and Class 4 opponents, the Class 2 Eagles have looked like a rejuvenated team in the postseason with a pair of 30-point blowout victories over Clarke County and the Bison. “It let us fine-tune ourselves,” Nickel said of East Rock taking a week off to practice before the playoffs. “When you’re playing games a lot, you get caught up in what’s going on and the same routine over and over. With practice, you can really make things different, switch things up and make things fresh. I think that played to our advantage tonight. We’ve seen so many different scenarios in practice that, no matter what we’re going to see, we’re good.” In the final week of the regular season, the Eagles faced Charlottesville and Eastern Mennonite once and Highland School twice. They finished 2-2 in that stretch, but Carey Keyes said that’s what may be the turning point. “I called it the gauntlet — that week of games,” Keyes said. “That took a lot out of us. It was nice to have some time off. … I thought our schedule prepared us for this regional tournament and, hopefully, the state tournament.” Cooper Keyes had eight points, six assists and three steals for East Rockingham while Michael Shifflett added seven points, five boards and four assists. Kyle Evick had four points and 11 rebounds while Kemper Siever had four points. Rivenburg finished with 30 points for the Bison (8-6) while Noah Canterbury added seven. Jackson LaPorte and Ethan Teter chipped in with four apiece. All-Shenandoah District first-team selection Bennett Bowers missed the game. “We just have to take it one game at a time,” Cooper said. “I think we showed at the beginning of the season that we’re built for these kind of games, but we just have to take it one game at a time and not get caught looking ahead.” The Eagles (8-2) advance to the Region 2B title game for the third straight year and will host a familiar foe in Staunton — a 67-41 winner over Page County on Tuesday. That game is set for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday in Elkton. “That’s our message every single season,” Keyes said of staying focused. “I think they know me too well not to do that. I could tell yesterday that they were really locked in. We haven’t played a [Class 2] game all season. They were excited to show what they could do against those teams. They were ready to go last night and again tonight. We’re going to have to be even better on Thursday. Regardless of who we play, those are two really good teams.” East Rockingham is now three wins away from bringing home its first state championship in program history, but players and coaches are remaining focused. If they want to accomplish that goal, they know that’s important. And with Nickel having games like Tuesday’s, it’s becoming more and more likely they can get it done. “Honestly, I always play with a chip on my shoulder,” Nickel said. “But today, there were some things going on that made me really put me over the edge. I don’t know anything specifically as to why, but I just started feeling good. It felt smooth and natural and my teammates put me in really good positions. Everything was firing on all cylinders.” -
