    IUWBB - News and Notes

This isn't relevant to IUWBB but I thought it was interesting nonetheless as it is B1G related. Apparently playing on a 5-19 Wisconsin Badger team isn't that appealing as it's losing its #2 scorer and #1 rebounder. Imani Lewis (6-1 JR forward, Willingboro, NJ) has entered her name into the transfer portal, out of Wisconsin WBB; #2 in scoring (15.0 PPG) for the Badgers this season and tops in rebounding (8.8/game); second-team All–Big Ten by the media

    IU Baseball vs Penn St - 3/12 - 3/14/21

Posted by Aaron in another thread discussing the swap of Sommer for Bierman to open the series. Mercer just announced he is flipping the rotation with Sommer the 1 and Bierman the 2. One of Mercer's biggest strength's and why he has succeeded is adaptability. His first year he played power ball, despite that not really being his thing since that is what team was built for and won Big Ten and nearly led country in HR's. Again, adaptability here. Bierman was bad last weekend, while Sommer and others were terrific so Bierman loses his lead rotation spot. A Friday pitcher has to be nearly perfect and if you want to pitch in the lead spot you need to be outstanding and if you are not you will be replaced. Hopefully, this motivates Bierman to not lose command of his pitches and pitch like he is capable and sends message to team if you don't perform you are replacable. Can you imagine if Archie was adaptable like Mercer? Archie's rigidness to stick to his system is what has team in so much trouble.

    General Coach Candidate News

IMO whatever's going to happen will come to a conclusion by the 21st. Either Dolson makes public comments that make it clear Archie will be back for another season or he announces that Archie has resigned. Can't let this continue to dangle in the wind from a recruiting perspective. With what we would hope are our primary coaching candidates all gathering in one place for March Madness, it will be easy for Dolson to "work the crowd" and get a deal done by the end of the first NCAA tournament weekend if a change is to be made.

    Big Ten Tournament 2021

Comments from today's presser- Miller says IU is "hopeful" Race Thompson and Armaan Franklin "continue to improve." Thompson is actually more banged up than Franklin, hasn't gotten much work this week. "We're not counting on Armaan being available." Archie Miller says teams won't get to practice on the game floor at Lucas Oil before warmup for their first game. Archie Miller doesn't think sightlines will be a big deal because of how this season has gone. "All of us have played in empty gyms all year." TJD clarifies that his expletive during the MSU game caught on camera was not directed at coaches but instead frustration with officiating. Says he regrets that he lost his cool because he knows young kids are watching. Jon Blau - Archie Miller talking at length about how difficult this season has been amid the pandemic. Freshmen moving in and being isolated. Upperclassmen used to a normal college life and being frustrated. "In and around Christmas time, it felt like late January." Archie Miller was asked specifically about mental health and the difficulties. He wasn't making excuses. He was just talking about a real issue coaches across the country are dealing with.

Such a fitting summary of IU basketball. “I feel like I know all their (Indiana’s) plays,” Stefanovic said. “I feel like I know what they want to do. Could be some cause for Kansas heading into tournament play. Kansas junior forward David McCormack and sophomore forward Tristan Enaruna have been put into COVID-19 protocols “semi-recently” and will be unavailable for the Big 12 tournament, head coach Bill Self said during a media availability Tuesday. “We will anticipate having them next weekend, but not this weekend,” Self said. But the bigger issue could be for the Big Dance. All Tier 1 participants have to show seven consecutive negative COVID-19 tests before arriving in Indianapolis for the NCAA tournament.

(2022) PG Braden Smith to Purdue

Yup! I'm mystified as to why prior to this weekend he didn't have a better offer list. He pretty much does it all for Westfield and has great court vision. He's fun to watch on the court. Maybe a year ago, his height, or lack thereof, was raised as a concern but surely that can't be the only reason he hasn't had more offers. And he can dunk. Is he an off-the-court problem child? Academics? @Uspshoosier do you have any insight why he hasn't been recruited more heavily? Quick summary. In 23 games this season he's averaging 22.0 ppg; 5.4 rpg; 6.2 apg; 2.7 stls; .6 blks. He's 55% FG; 45% on 3s; 83% FT. He has a 2.3 assist/TO ratio.

47% FG / 78% FT. I'll have to strongly disagree that he can shoot the 3 ball. This season he only attempted 32 making 10 for 31%. In fairness, in the 19-20 season he was 11-27 for 41%. But only attempting 1 per game over 2 seasons isn't my definition of a 3-point shooter.
