Class of '66 Old Fart

OK everyone, on the count of 3 let's all heave a collective sigh of relief.   I look for a significantly different JBJ on the court this season displaying a much more well-rounded game especially when it comes to defense.

  Agree.  By that time, the rotation has pretty much taken shape, our 3 incoming freshmen have had some acclimation to IU basketball and Division I caliber basketball and the B1G season is around the corner.  Seems like too much possible disruption because I'm sure he expects to see significant playing time. 

Transferred to Oklahoma for coach - are you ready for this - Kelvin Sampson!!   From what I found he had a bunch of injuries at OK and was subsequently dismissed by Sampson for the ever popular "violation of team rules" and he ended his final year of eligibility at Oklahoma City University.

Took me a while to track down the specifics but at the start of the 1995-1996 season, Knight brought in a JUCO named Lou Moore.  Moore dressed and played in the Great Alaska Shootout and that was it.  One of several quotes from Knight about Moore was "Lou Moore is no more!" 

  But on the flip side, what about all the 'trolling' that gets posted on these threads and other forums some of which is nothing more than rumor based and gets pretty nasty and very pointed at specific players and the head coach in particular?  I think he's a 21-year old kid having a lot of fun and maybe, just maybe, his leadership is being demonstrated quite nicely by leading so many 'sheep to slaughter' by creating such angst and hand wringing among the brethren.  If I'm totally wrong in how I think this is going to play out, I will be the first to admit it come next Saturday night.  But what do I know, I'm just an Old Fart!  :wink:

Ron Hunter and Georgia State have picked up Alabama transfer Devin Mitchell and Ball State is adding grad transfer Nate Wells from Bradley U.

Some of you are just getting your undies all in a knot for no good reason.  I agree with ctown2 that he's trolling and he's having a lot of fun reading the analyses we make of his tweets.  The soiree at Ruth's Chris isn't just about a stay or go decision (BTW he's staying); there's simply more to it than that.   And I'm going to continue to wear my rose-colored glasses until I have to see my optometrist for a prescription change.  So everybody just calm down, practice some lamaze techniques and it will all be over in a week. 

Saw the following transfer announcements earlier today: 1.  Clayton Custer formerly of Iowa State transferring to Loyola-Chicago. 2.  Patrick Wallace formerly of NC State has committed to Charleston Southern, 3.  Shonn Miller formerly of Cornell has committed to UConn.  

Seen multiple reports that Illinois has picked up Mike Thorne, a transfer from Charlotte who is immediately eligible.

  Response I got from my K-State contact is major character issues with Weber's recruits.  Lots of on and off-court disciplinary problems.  8 members of his 2014-2015 squad won't be back for next season, 2 of which are graduating seniors.  Somebody didn't do very good homework in the recruiting process and Weber's seat is getting warm.

  I'm trying to find out.  I've got an old classmate who lives in that area and has become a diehard K-State fan.  If he'll talk, I'll pass along what I hear.

  I thought Larry really threw Hibbert under the bus with this comment:  "Lance (Stephenson) ain't stealing his rebounds, I'll tell you that,'' Bird said, eliciting laughter from the media. “That's all I heard last year.''  Kravitz suggested the Pacers might even help pay Hibert's moving expenses if he would opt out of his final year.

Talk about being a bad judge of character in basketball recruits, Bruce Weber may win first prize.  This from the Associated Press earlier today:  "Kansas State coach Bruce Weber has dismissed freshman forward Malek Harris from the team, the fifth underclassman who will not be returning to the Wildcats next season.  Weber said Friday that Harris was unable to live up to the expectations of the program. Harris joins sophomore guard Marcus Foster and freshman forward Tre Harris in getting kicked off the team, while sophomore guards Jevon Thomas and Nigel Johnson have transferred."

  The continued recruiting and offering of scholarships when we're already oversigned is disturbing.  We certainly don't know what's going on behind the scenes but it's a disturbing habit nonetheless.  Brad Stevens made some interesting comments about his recruiting philosophy at Butler in an interview yesterday with Dan Patrick and it's quite a contrast from what we see. 

Never did like Billy Packer and his overboard favoritism to the ACC.

Austin Colbert a sophomore at Illinois is going to transfer. 

NC State getting bit twice today.  Earlier today Trevor Lacey announced for the draft and now sophomore post player Kyle Washington says he is transferring.

Not news about a player, but former IU assistant coach John Treolar is rejoing the LSU staff as Associate Head Coach.  I had lost track of him and did not realize that since 2008 he has been Director of Player Personnel for the Phoenix Suns.  What mighta or coulda happened if he had been named head coach instead of Mike Davis?   http://hoopdirt.com/treloar-named-associate-head-coach-at-lsu/
