IU-PSU post game thread
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to TheWatShot's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
After the fantastic game against Michigan I made the audacious statement that perhaps that game was a kick to the crotch of our typical season ending swoon. So to re-use an old quote, "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain." -
How can something desert you that's rarely ever been present?

I do, but you can't print it in a public forum.

A tremendous effort at Michigan totally undone by falling on our face in Happy Valley. Now I really feel uncomfortable about next Thursday night.

This game just doesn't have the feel that we're going to miraculously pull it out at the buzzer.

I don't find any mention of Gunn in the stats for the last couple of HHSE games; reason why? Through 17 games he's averaging: 18.5 ppg 8.6 rpg 1.8 assists/game 2 TO's/game -

Unfortunately, this isn't the first game he's had this season where he's effectively been shutdown. Can't determine if it's because opposing teams have simply shut him down with defense or he's just a streaky shooter. -

Happy Devin's doing well and it's someplace other than IU with all that happened involving him. Truly hope it was a life changing experience. -

Vijay Blackmon - Valpo U Strength & Conditioning Coach
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to JSHoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Since there seems to be no 'love' between IU and Blackmon, I'm not going to follow his future games and post his stats. I've seen him play multiple games and from my unprofessional point of view he's not what we want and he's not nearly the shooter his older brother is. On 2/4, Marion defeated Muncie Central 73 - 66. Blackmon with 14 pts. on 4 of 11 shooting; 0 for 3 on 3's; 2 reb.; 4 assists; 2 steals; 3 TO's. -
(2016) PF De'Ron Davis to IU

2/5, Overland defeated Smoky Hill 69 - 48. Davis with 5 pts. Only had 2 fouls so not sure why his stat total might be low. -
Sam Travis - Boston Red Sox Org
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to Naturalhoosier's topic in IUHoosier Baseballers in the Pros
http://www.outsidepitchmlb.com/a-look-into-the-boston-red-sox-future-sam-travis/42388 The Red Sox have a pretty solid group of first baseman on their Major League roster. Currently, Boston has Hanley Ramirez taking up the starting first baseman role and Travis Shaw holding it down as his back up, not to mention Brock Holt and David Ortiz there for emergency situations. With that being said, Ortiz is retiring following the season and it’s expected that Ramirez will slide into the designated hitter position in his absence. That just leaves Shaw and super-utility Holt, who will be too busy holding down other positions to play first base for an extended period of time. Who will they turn too in the future? Smart money is on Sam Travis. The right-handed hitting first baseman is one of the Red Sox top prospects, and for good reason. Between Class-A Advanced and Double-A last season, Travis hit .307 (.381 on-base percentage) with 32 doubles, six triples, nine home runs, 78 runs batted in, and 19 stolen bases. Did I mention he’s only 22-years old? The two worst tools that Travis possesses are his defense and his base running abilities, and both are considered average-to-slightly-above-average. His contact and power are both highly impressive, and will only continue to get better. Travis has the bat to consistently hit .300 in the Majors, and while he doesn’t have much home run power, he will pile up plenty of extra base hits, and could still find a way to knock around 20 homers. Thanks to a impressive early seasons in the Minors, great potential, and a stellar work ethic; the Indiana University product should be in the Majors sooner-rather-than-later. I’m not just saying that because I want the Red Sox first basemen to be the new law firm (shoutout to BenJarvus Green-Ellis) of Travis (Shaw) and (Sam) Travis. -

http://www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/college/louisville/2016/02/05/sources-u-l-imposing-postseason-hoops-ban/79878760/ Sources: U of L imposing postseason hoops ban The University of Louisville plans to announce on Friday a self-imposed postseason ban on its men’s basketball team for the 2015-16 campaign, multiple sources told The Courier-Journal. The school informed the team’s players in a meeting early Friday afternoon, a source close to the program said, and will hold a press conference at 1:30 p.m. to announce the decision. (Watch the 1:30 p.m. press conference live here) The coaches told the players they only had nine games left, another source said, which is the remainder of the regular season. The decision comes as the NCAA continues to investigate a woman’s claims that she and other escorts were paid thousands of dollars and given game tickets in exchange for dancing for and having sex with U of L basketball players and recruits from 2010-14. It is a significant blow to coach Rick Pitino and his current team, which has an 18-4 record and is in second place in the competitive Atlantic Coast Conference. Louisville, ranked 19th in the latest AP poll, had high hopes for deep runs in the ACC and NCAA tournaments, and has a team built around two graduate transfers, Damion Lee and Trey Lewis, who came to U of L to play their final college season and pursue their first NCAA tournament bid. -

If they would have done better homework, they would have realized that his last 2 gaudy years at New Mexico weren't representative of his earlier career coaching results. Or to use the phrase some of the off-the-wall stock trading firms use in their ads, "past performance is not indicative of future results."
