2015 Transfers and Early Entries
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Chris McCullough of Syracuse expected to declare for the NBA draft; was averaging 9.3 points and 6.9 rebounds through 16 games before he tore an ACL in January. Not sure how many this now makes for Syracuse who are leaving for one reason or another. I think he's at least the 3rd if not 4th player. -
Just what Matt Painter did to PUke a few years back when he was 'seriously' considering the jump to Missouri.

But specifically to Wisconsin and MSU, they've proven you don't have to chase all over 50 states to fill your roster with quality players and still consistently have very successful programs like we once had in the last millennium.. -

Nebraska announced freshman Tarin Smith will transfer. Coming on the heels of the Walter Pitchford announcement that he won't play in 2015-2016, could we say they got 'Mileage'? -
All this chatter over Stevens and I just don't see it happening for at least a year. And then, I'm worried that he and his family have enjoyed their time on the east coast and that a Duke or North Carolina opening pops up and zap, he's gone. Duke because of the prestige and history of the program; North Carolina because what better coach would you want to clean up their academic pig sty and who would bring them immediate credibility to restore the image of their program.

From what little I've seen, he's a very late 2nd rounder or more likely headed overseas. -
(2015) C Thomas Bryant to IU

I'm just nervous as hell that it continues to drag and the longer we go with no announcement from TB the more nervous I get. I just have this awful feeling he's waiting on that 'better offer'. Maybe there's sound reasons for him to wait until after the April 2-4, tournament, but from everything he's reported to be saying, why wait? I'm old and cranky and my digestive system can't handle all this stress. -

Old Friend did a fantastic job with that post and obviously gave it considerable thought. From my perspective, I think I'd look really hard at the next coach's roster turnover and how many players left the program early excluding for the NBA, i.e, does he show roster continuity or were his teams "always young". I'd also look long and hard at how the team progressed throughout the season. Did his teams tend to improve their overall play or did they routinely exhibit late season collapses. Over time, how did his teams rank both offensively and defensively, i.e, were they relatively stable or extremely erratic from year to year. And when it's time for the next search, screw hiring a search firm or putting together a committee of professors and non-basketball alumni. Put together 5 former players and let them find the best candidates and do the required due diligence. Who better knows what we need to return to prominence than the people that actually wore the candystripes? -

We both must have eaten the same burrito because I feel the say way. We've solved the (current) oversigning but we're still hoping for Bryant and maybe even another signee so it seems a foregone conclusion that there will be at least 1 more announced transfer. -
To the best of my knowledge it has been well-guarded. Rumors that probably have a certain degree of accuracy but nothing concrete enough for me to consider posting.

That was the rumor. At the very least it provided Holtmann with some very strong negotiating leverage. But since Butler is my second favorite school, I'm glad he's staying. Because it's a private school Butler doesn't have to release salary figures but I think from what I've heard that its head coaching salary has been towards the bottom of the Big East pay scale.

This topic can't possibly keep up with the number of transfers that are being announced almost daily and there's already been an untold number who've announced they're transferring over the past couple of weeks. It's an epidemic of Black Plague proportions. -

I want Tom Crean to stay
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to HoosierPT's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The present situation with the program just seems so similar to a marriage that has broken down with irreconcilable differences and the parties are only staying together for the benefit of the kids. For whatever reasons the overall results are simply not what IU fans expect and I honestly don't think Crean can be happy either because the performance on the court is a reflection on him in whatever future coaching job he may hope to land. I think both sides are worn out and regardless of what happens next season, I think he leaves. If it's a repeat of the past 2 seasons, Glass cuts the cord. If he has a really good season, I think he leaves of his own volition for a fresh start elsewhere. I just don't see this 'marriage' lasting more than 1 more year. -
I've seen him play in person several games and wasn't all that impressed. I don't think his shot is as good as JBJ's and turns the ball over a lot. I don't think he would be any upgrade over what we currently have on the roster.
