From the Lafayette Journal-Courier:   An assistant coach on the Griffith boys basketball team was airlifted to the University of Chicago Hospital following a rollover bus accident Saturday afternoon near DeMotte. David Garrett, a freshman boys basketball coach, was originally taken to Riverside Medical Center before being airlifted to the University of Chicago Hospital, according to an email from Griffith Public Schools Superintendent Pete Morikis. "Sadly, several of our players and coaches were injured in the accident," Morikis said. Everyone on the bus was taken to one of three local hospitals in Merrillville, Rensselaer or Kankakee, Illinois. “Our hearts are heavy today,” Morikis said. “What began with excitement – as the fulfillment of a dream to play in the semi-state tournament – has ended tragically. We are praying today for the members of our Griffith school family, who have been injured. “I would like to thank the good samaritan who stopped on his way to a funeral in Wisconsin to check on the condition of our team. Mark Kadowaki is a surgeon who was headed in the opposite direction and took the time to stop and help.” The Class 4A semistate game between McCutcheon and Warsaw at Lafayette Jeff's Crawley Center has been postponed until 7:30 p.m. The 3A game between Griffith and Marion, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., has been postponed until further notice.

  I have seen absolutely no mention of any fatalities in any account I've read thus far.  Several people have been transported to hospitals and one tweet mentioned 2 were double digit scorers for Griffith.  IHSAA plans to announce sometime on Sunday what kind of contingency plan will be put in place for the postponed game.

  I'll grant you that last 3 was ugly, but he has 6 pts. on 3 of 4 shooting; 4 reb.; 4 assists and 2 steals and I can live with that kind of production..
