Since joining the Anderson Herald Bulletin, Hutch has published 2 of a 3 part one-on-one articles with CTC. The first focused on our incoming freshman and the second mostly about how rehab is going with our walking wounded. http://www.heraldbulletin.com/sports/indiana/q-a-with-iu-coach-tom-crean-part/article_fa36bba8-42e5-11e6-889a-2bdebc7621fc.html http://www.heraldbulletin.com/indianaanderson/q-a-with-iu-coach-tom-crean-part/article_48953976-43bf-11e6-9361-3fa2aed52ca7.html -
On my time at Indiana, and why I failed at Scout July 6, 2016 Justin Albers Leave a comment If you’re reading this, thanks for being here. I hope this site will be fun for you. Now that my contract with Scout has expired and Peegs has moved over to the network, I wanted to take the time to share some things with you and also offer advice to younger writers and people in general about social media. I came to Indiana as a cocky freshman because I’d written professionally for newspapers and magazines since I was 16. The IDS quickly put me in my place by sticking me on the men’s tennis beat, and I needed that. I spent the next four years earning my stripes and working my way up. I volunteered for any and every story at the IDS as a freshman, even if it meant I had to skip class to do it. I agreed to write midweek features on men’s tennis every week, something the editors were always desperate for. When I didn’t get the baseball beat, I went back and grinded even harder on the men’s tennis beat in the spring semester. I shared my opinion — which was often polarizing — when I moved up to football columnist as a sophomore and junior, but I also worked my ass off as a reporter. I developed relationships that became sources, and I broke news before anyone else. (Note: During Kevin Wilson’s first season, he once cornered me and Alex McCarthy in an elevator and asked us which one of us had been talking to his players. But that’s a story for another day.) Alex Bozich gave me a life-changing opportunity when he hired me at Inside The Hall in 2011, and the two years I spent there on the basketball and recruiting beat were by far the best years of my young journalism career. But in the time since then, I’ve rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Most of them probably aren’t reading this for that very reason, but that’s OK. I lost a lot of people’s support because of the way I often handled myself on Twitter. I’ve too often been immature and egotistical in responding to fans and tweeting about certain topics. I recognize that, and I take full responsibility for it. I will hide from none of it. I’m not usually the person you see on Twitter in real life, but that’s my fault and not yours. There aren’t any classes on how to handle yourself on social media (if there was I wouldn’t score highly), but I’ve made a lot of mistakes, and I don’t want other young people to make the same ones. Always remember that every single word you send out on Twitter becomes part of who you are forever. Every single word you send it will shape how people view you in the real world. If I’d been following myself on Twitter all these years, I would have clicked the unfollow button long ago. I wouldn’t have liked myself, so I fully understand why many of you view me in the way that you do. There’s a fine line between good confidence and bad cockiness, and I’ve battled that since I arrived in Bloomington as an 18-year-old in 2009. As my Twitter follower count grew and as I broke more and more stories, I jumped on an airplane and flew far past that fine line. I’ve been arrogant and childish, and I’ve lost a lot of would-be fans because of it. Twitter became like a drug to me. I allowed it to become my identity and I lost sight of all the things that got me to where I am, and all the values I’ve always held true and wanted to represent. My Twitter account became my alter-ego, and as I’ve taken a deeply introspective look at myself in the last six months, I’m embarrassed at what that alter-ego looked like. I allowed every negative reply to poke at me. I let me competitive nature make me attack other writers. I became a person I never wanted to be, and I couldn’t change it. It was a drug, and I was addicted. I let personal issues leak into my professional life, and as time went on, I couldn’t distinguish my professional life from my personal life. I was too young to have my own site when Scout gave it to me last July, and I faced the impossible task of building another money maker in a market that already includes two powerhouses. Obviously, I failed to do that. It wasn’t entirely because of my behavior on social media, but my Twitter presence certainly didn’t help. I let myself get away from everything that makes me who I am and everything that allowed me the unique opportunity to run a site for a national company at 24 years old. Everything I’ve ever said on Twitter will forever be part of my digital footprint, and I accept that. I can’t change it, and I won’t try to. But I will do everything in my power to earn your trust and respect again, however long that may take. I will work to become the person I want to be and not the one I’ve been on social media. My time at Indiana will always be special to me. These seven years have been full of good times and bad, but more importantly, lessons that will help me for the rest of my career and the rest of my life. Indiana fans are the best and most passionate in the country, and now I will become one of those fans. I’m really excited about that. Lastly, to any young writers, athletes, or other people reading this: Please think twice — er, 27 times — before you send anything out into cyberspace. Social media is full of people who would love to see you fail. The best thing you can do isn’t to reply with an insult or tweet words you’ll later regret — it’s to succeed, and flourish.

We should all send our condolences out to our resident BlueDevil2aHoosier. Bob Harris "Voice of Blue Devils" is retiring after 4 decades. He's called 1,358 Blue Devil men's ballgames. Anybody have a handle on Fisch's numbers?

I also really enjoy the Spenser series and Jesse Stone series by the late Robert B. Parker. His estate authorized other authors to continue to use the Spenser and Stone characters but I don't feel those authors have done a particularly credible job with the characters.

So who out there can shed some light on all the noise that De'Ron Davis maybe won't arrive on campus until early August? Overland coach Danny Fisher told The Herald-Times in a text message. “He is hashing through some things he has to finish here in town and has been in constant contact with coach Crean and staff. I don’t have an exact date, but early August is what everyone is expecting.” Other than missing out on summer workouts and getting to know his teammates is there something else we need to be concerned about? Please reassure me that this isn't going to be Ron Patterson 2.0. -

Who is this U of Indiana of which he speaks? But if that's the worst part of his game, I think we can probably correct that problem. -
What is it about USC and players who go by the initial O J?

Is this the lead sled dog or simply one of the butt sniffers? LOL

Reminds me of days long ago when Minny's non-conf. schedule was nothing but cupcakes and they'd start out like gangbusters and everybody would rave about how good they were and they'd be highly ranked. Then reality would set in once conference play started.

(2017) SF Jordan Tucker- OV 11/30/16
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
NEW YORK -- Jordan Tucker plans to cut his list later this summer, possibly after Peach Jam. "I'm trying to cut my list after that, to six, eight the most," the 6-foot-7 wing from White Plains (N.Y.) Archbishop Stepinac told SNY.tv on Wednesday at Rens practice in Manhattan. Tucker holds offers from a slew of high-majors, including Arizona, Syracuse, UConn, St. John's, Maryland, Indiana, Oklahoma State, Marquette and Georgia Tech. Duke has also reached out through associate head coach Jeff Capel. "I've been hearing from Duke, Duke's been on me," Tucker said. "I'm just trying to get an offer from them. They said hopefully after Peach Jam if i play well that should all take care of itself." [doesn't that suggest he commits to Duke if they offer?] He added: "They like me, they just want Coach K to see me and he wasn't out during live period." He also said he hopes to visit Duke going forward. "For visits, I want to take an unofficial to Duke," he said. "It depends on how this whole Peach Jam palys out. I think they'll still be interested in me." Heading into next week's Peach Jam with the Rens, Tucker said the Duke interest has spiked his confidence. "It gave me a lot more confidence and focus trying to prepare for Peach Jam," he said. North Carolina has also shown interest but hasn't offered. "More Duke than North Carolina that I've heard from," he said. A slew of big-time schools are expected to watch the Rens, who also feature uncommitted 2017s Hamidou Diallo, Jordan Nwora and Jose Alvarado. "All the schools that offered me, they're obviously going to watch me," Tucker said. St. John's technically doesn't have any scholarships for 2017, but will likely watch Tucker. "Of course, they're going to see me play out of respect," he said. Tucker most recently visited Maryland before he was cut from the USA U18 team in Colorado. "The Maryland visit was cool," he said. "Coach [Mark] Turgeon wasn't there, I went around with coach Bino [Ranson]. He told me what Coach Turgeon was telling me, how i would fit in the offense. They want to see me play a lot harder." -
(2017) SG Al Durham Jr. to IU
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Earlier, Durham received an invite to Chris Paul's summer camp and today invited to Nike's Basketball Academy along with a couple of other IU targets. His numbers in this summer's AAU circuit haven't been eye popping but there must be more to his game than what we can glean simply from the box score. Final note - the EYBL Peach Jam Classic runs July 6-8, and I'll try to keep up-to-date with stats but don't look for stats from all of the EYBL players we've targeted including Durham and his teammate Collin Sexton because teams had to qualify (wins/losses in the 4 previous EYBL events) to participate in the Peach Jam and Durham's Southern Stampede team was not one of the qualifying teams. -
And in the category of whatever happened to: 7'0" C Jeremiah April, a former player at Indiana University, has signed with @coachcarp1 at Wabash Valley CC

(2017) SG Andrew Platek
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to hoosierpap's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
From 247: Andrew Platek 's stock rose rapidly this spring, as the Massachusetts 2017 shooting guard picked up a slew of high-major offers. North Carolina, Indiana and Stanford stood out among those offers, and Platek spoke with CarolinaBlue's Ross Min about his recruitment recently. Martin was kind enough to share with us what the 247Sports Composite three-star guard had to say about Indiana and his May 6 visit to Bloomington. "Going there I didn't know what to expect," Platek told Martin. "I had been to Butler before, but I had never been to Bloomington. So one thing that really stood out was how passionate the coaches were in the workouts and everything was about Indiana basketball. Everyone really bought into what they were doing and they had a plan and everyone was trying to execute that plan. Coach (Tom) Crean is a great guy. He is a fantastic coach and a great person to talk to about the game." Platek, who stands 6-foot-4, has visited North Carolina, Indiana and Stanford recently, the latter visit coming just last weekend. There's no timeline on his decision, but Platek's Crystal Ball is currently in favor of North Carolina. -
From Scout.com: 5-star wing Terrance Ferguson is no longer going to Arizona. Not a major surprise. Looks like he'll attempt the Emmanuel Mudiay route.

Class of '66 Old Fart replied to X-Hoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
A humorous article on ESPN.com matching songs with next season's top 25 teams. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/16585442/the-song-defines-top-25-college-basketball-team 11. Indiana Hoosiers: "Look At Me Now," Chris Brown ft. Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne (2011) Indiana coach Tom Crean sat squarely on the hot seat going into last season, and he knew it. Instead of allowing his detractors to get their wish, Crean and the Hoosiers shook off an ugly 5-3 start to the season and marched into the Sweet 16, where they fell to North Carolina. Now, Crean returns proven scorer James Blackmon Jr., talented big man Thomas Bryant and explosive guard OG Anunoby. So yes, as Chris Brown foretold, Crean "don't see how you can hate from outside of the club" Look at him now, he's (still) getting paper. -

Class of '66 Old Fart replied to hoosierpap's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I know you ended your list with the qualifying statement "...to name a few". But the Rivals list has quite a few more names of kids with IU offers or high interest so should we draw a conclusion that your list is a list of the kids with the highest probability of wearing candy stripes and names you didn't list are really long shots? -

Zach McRoberts to be a walk-on this season and be immediately eligible. Younger brother of Josh McRoberts left U of Vermont last year and spent last season as an IU student thus the immediate eligibility. Listed at 6'6". "Averaged 5.1 points per game in America East play for the Catamounts in 2015. He missed the first seven games of that season with a knee injury, but came on strong late in the year. McRoberts played in 27 consecutive games and averaged 7.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and shot 57.1 percent from the floor in the 2015 CBI Tournament." http://scoop.hoosiershq.com/2016/06/zach-mcroberts-to-walk-on-at-indiana-iubb/
