(2017) PF Deng Gak to Miami
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
We could certainly do a whole lot worse than Gak. His summer AAU stats weren't overly impressive until you see that he only averaged 12 min./game because he was playing behind Mo Bamba a Top 10 nationally ranked recruit. 247 has him as a 4-star and ranked 129th nationally and the 12th ranked center. -

2017 IUBB recruiting
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to hoosierpap's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Cody Zeller #4 pick. Noah Vonleh #9 pick. Thomas Bryant a first rounder for sure and maybe a Top 10. I'm as mystified as you are as to why we don't have more interest from the bigs to commit to IU. Also makes me very nervous that we're seemingly dropping down the ladder in our search for a big (please not Jeremiah April 2.0 he types with a shudder) -

I'm curious if anyone has any insight on why we seemingly never expressed any interest whatsoever in Nunge. Our choice? He hates us? He put up solid numbers as a junior. 6'10"; needs more weight on his frame and he's only 3-star, but he's also someone who will be a 4-year player. Certainly don't want him as your cornerstone target, but it just seemed odd to me that there never seemed to be at least passing interest on our part. Don't like McCaffrey but I think Nunge will probably do well in the Iowa system. -

Lot of commitments announced this weekend. From Evan Daniels: Closing in on 50% of the 2017 top 100 being committed. 49 players are off the board, but just 6 of the top 25 have pledged. From Chip Miller: Over the last 36 hours eleven members of the 2017 class, including seven four-stars, announced their college decision. -

Moreno is an athletic SF/W that uses a quick first step and strength to finish over bigs in and around the bucket. He has above average ball handling skills for a young 6’6″ freshman. Moreno has a nice soft touch in and around the paint and has a nice mid range jumper. Moreno plays within his game and takes advantage of his strengths. He has a good game IQ, good vision for a young big. Moreno also rebounds the ball well. A huge strength Moreno has is finishing in transition. His athleticism and great hands allow him to be a huge threat in transition and Moreno isn’t intimidated by mature players on either end of the floor. Right now Moreno is more of a slasher/ stretch forward and understands how to play within his game. Moreno needs to continue working on his ball handling capabilities as well as developing a more consistent 3 point shot to his offensive repertoire. Moreno is a special player the 2019 class and can become on of the best to play at the prestigious Scott County program. Moreno is an excellent prospect that will only get bigger, stronger, and faster. Strengths: Scorer Rebounder Defender/Shot Blocker Runs the floor well Game IQ Motor AWARDS: Most Outstanding Player at KBA Elite 2019 camp, Multiple educational awards, MVP of state tournament (KY), MVP of different camps/tournaments 8th grade year. Wishful thinking but I'd like to get a verbal from him before he leaves Bloomington. We talk about dominoes falling and maybe getting his commit could be a catalyst for 1 or 2 of our other targets. -

(2017) PG Paul Scruggs to Xavier
Class of '66 Old Fart replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Certainly agree that these basketball factories a/k/a prep schools are destroying high school basketball and the whole experience of being a high school student at a real high school. The reference to Peterson under NCAA investigation from multiple sources is a pretty bold statement and I certainly hope that Albers' sources are totally reliable and with first hand knowledge. If not, that's an allegation tantamount to asking someone in a public forum is it true you're no longer in rehab when you know full well there's no truth in the statement. -

Article by Gregg Doyel in the Indy Star on Scruggs' decision. "... Scruggs is transferring to a school that didn’t exist until three years ago. For another, Prolific Prep isn’t a school at all.
