Best case scenario for Troy is his career goes the Gerald Green route. He will play early in his career a little then end up in Europe and the D League and hopefully figure it out a couple years after he is drafted and turns into a above average NBA player

The sad part is I think for the most part we thought he was going to be a really solid 4 year player at Indiana. Especially after the little bit he showed as a Freshman.

Earlier in the thread someone talked about how much JBJ stood around. I've been watching UCLA closely the last couple days and noticed how they run Alford off screen after screen. He runs off screens a lot off the ball to get himself open shots. JBJ is as good as shooter as anyone so why not run him off some down screens to get him open instead of him just spotting up out top and hoping we can drive in kick.

That's my point exactly. Defense is about effort. When I player isn't giving effort you have to have some consequences. You are basically saying you are okay with they lack of effort on the defensive end. If he coached defense hard and pushed his players to do it they would. If they didn't the. They shouldn't be playing. If the players don't care then why are we recruiting them. You think coach k let's players be lazy on defense. Pitino? Roy Williams? Any other good coach? No. Players know that when they go to that school and play for that coach they have to do their best to play on both sides of the ball.

If he cared about teaching defense then why are we so bad at it. The only other explanation is that all the players are physically incapable of playing defense. I have a hard time believing that Indiana doesn't have or can get the athletes to play good defense.

I completely agree with that. That's why all off season they should be working on that stuff. Then when they don't do it correctly in the offseason they maybe run extra. Or maybe he extends practice. Early in the year maybe you sub Troy out when he dribbles around all crazy. Or sit someone down when they get taken off the dribble multiple times. Or make a defensive adjustment to slow someone such as Van fleet down. I'm not saying he doesn't care if they lose. Every coach wants to win. I'm not saying he doesn't care about his players. Every coach cares about their players. I'm saying he doesn't care about the fundamental things that good basketball teams do to win games. You took that out of context. Do you really think he cares if those guys play defense? If he cared about them playing defense there would be repercussions when they didn't.

I can't stand to watch another season with him as the head coach. That was the most frustrating thing I've ever watched. He gets the ball to JBJ of all people at the end. A freshman who has been playing bad all afternoon. How about Yogi? He's our best player and the only one with tournament experience. Maybe give him the ball. There are so many little things they just don't do. Has anyone on the team been told you shouldn't leave your feet to pass? The defense is so bad. Part of that is on the players though. At some point as a player you have to say enough is enough get down move your feet and cut of a dribble drive. They got to the rim so easily it was ridiculous. When they did finally oaky defense they couldn't do it without fouling. That's a fundamental thing that they should be taught. Tom needs to hold the players accountable for not playing defense though. Troy dribbling all over the place, no defense, jumping to pass. It just shows how indisciplined the players are over all. They can get away with anything and they don't get held accountable. That shows that Tom Crean just doesn't care. He should have defensive principles in place and if the players don't follow them then they should be benched until they decide they are going to do what it takes to win. It's unbelievable how bad they are at the fundamental things.
