(2014) SF Josh Cunningham to Bradley
WindyCitySource replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
You can say that about any coach. Crean wasn't the only person going after the guys you mentioned. Ron Patteron is at Syracuse... is Boeheim a bad recruiter too? Jeremy had OSU in his final five. Luke Fischer could have gone to Marquette (where he ended up anyways) and I'm sure if he stayed uncommitted longer he would have been offered by Wisconsin too. Plus he is a good player and that was a great recruiting win for Crean. It's not Crean's fault that Fischer got homesick and bailed. -
Cuonzo takes CA job, 3 big commits could leave
WindyCitySource replied to Hwy 1's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Crean has a job at least for one more year with $3+ million salary and an enormous buyout. He has more resources than most other coaches in the country. He would be out of his mind to leave for Tennessee right now. If the seats gets really hot after another rough year, then maybe. But still probably not. Crean isn't leaving Indiana until he gets fired or is "forced to resign." There will be more jobs open next year, just as there are every offseason, and if he gets fired by IU at any time there will be a new job waiting for him. He is MUCH MUCH MUCH better off staying at IU and trying to right the ship. It's in everyone's best interest to accept the fact that Tom Crean will continue to be the coach at Indiana for at least another 11 months. -

I'd be more concerned about Crean going to the Lakers and Yogi, Troy and Stan going pro. -
Kenny Johnson to Louisville
WindyCitySource replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Kenny Johnson is far from the only sensible candidate for Maryland. Here's an article from the Testudo Times with a few more. Most logical names: * Tom Herrion - Marshall head coach 2010-2014, Charleston 2002-2006, former assistant at Pitt, Virginia, Providence, others. * Pat Flannery - Bucknell head coach 1994-2008, former assistant Bucknell, Drexel, William & Mary * David Cox - former assistant at Rutgers, Georgetown, Pitt Remember that KJ has 3 years experience as a college coach TOTAL. If Turgeon is looking to make a recruiting hire, than KJ is obviously one of (if not the) top candidate. But if he's looking for someone with coaching experience, yeah right. -

Names getting thrown around for Tennessee job... Gregg Marshall, Ben Howland, Archie Miller, Donnie Tyndall, Mike White, Tad Boyle, and of course Shaka Smart (yeah right). -
B1G Players Declaring for the Draft/Graduating
WindyCitySource replied to Bryan Medema's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Didn't see this posted anywhere... Iowa lost two reserve bigs in Kyle Meyer and Darius Stokes. Both transferring. Meyer is a redshirt freshman with 3 years left, Stokes is graduating and can use his final season immediately. http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2014/04/08/reserve-post-players-kyle-meyer-darius-stokes-to-leave-iowa/ -

Check out what Tennessee players had to say about Cuonzo leaving. Not too surprised, thought he was treated poorly, etc -
(2014) SF Josh Cunningham to Bradley
WindyCitySource replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Who else? You can't be talking about Marcus Lee and Trevor Thompson. Ohio State has been the better program, both recently and for their entire lifetimes. Matta has put several big men in the league and he's an excellent coach/recruiter. Not even close to the same thing as Cunningham considering Bradley. -
Pretty amazing the logjam that they have up front. Got to think there will be some NBA attrition or transfers. Do all those McDAA's really want to ride the bench? It's a great position for Cal to be in, though. Just like when WCS went down in the tournament, all the sudden you have McDAA and former top-20 recruit Marcus Lee to insert into the game. He was willing to ride the pine pretty much all season waiting for that chance... wonder if he's willing to do it again?

Earth Shattering Changes at NCAA!!!!
WindyCitySource replied to Hwy 1's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Much better for the NCAA than do this than to allow opponents to use it against them in the case for paying players. Smart move on their part. I don't say that very often in regards to the NCAA. -
Kenny Johnson to Louisville
WindyCitySource replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Meanwhile, I think Glass might be forced to pay KJ more money regardless of the validity in these rumors/KJ's actual interest in Maryland. If I were him I would let it sneak out that I was interested and see how badly IU wants me to stay. If they don't offer a raise, then maybe heading back home to Maryland isn't such a bad idea. -

They see Maryland has a position, KJ is from/went to Maryland, and boom: blog post. -
(2014) SF Josh Cunningham to Bradley
WindyCitySource replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Indiana should be competetive in a recruiting battle with any school. I just think people tend to be under the impression that if Cunningham picks Bradley or South Carolina that there's automatically something wrong with Crean and/or Indiana. While IU's momentum is not great, there are may too many things at play in recruiting a specific kid to pin it all on one aspect. -
(2014) SF Josh Cunningham to Bradley
WindyCitySource replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
First of all, he hasn't committed to Bradley. Second of all... I understand the perception is that IU should never lose a recruit to Bradley. But that's just not true. Not every prospect has the same priorities in college. He can be the star at Bradley, he has long-standing relationships with the coaching staff, it's closer to home and family, and he can probably play exclusively on the wing there. None of those things are try for IU, and having 5 banners on the wall from before he was born aren't automatically going to make him drop everything and commit to IU. -
Absolutely... they would get some public backlash from it, but if they want to limit the teams a player transfers too they can.

(2014) SF Josh Cunningham to Bradley
WindyCitySource replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I know that... but some people here are acting like IU is too good to take a guy who is considering Bradley. Remy decommitted from Bradley and held offers from mostly mid-majors. Indiana, Penn State, Seton Hall and Xavier were the only major schools to offer (per a quick Rivals search), yet many of the same people long to have him back on the team. -

In non-B1G news, Jerami Grant from Syracuse also headed to the League. IU's opponent next season Louisville is going to be even tougher to beat, as Montrezl Harrell tweeted today that he is STAYING at Louisville. -

Gary Harris headed to the NBA. We won't ever have to watch him light up the Hoosiers again! http://espn.go.com/nba/draft2014/story/_/id/10782258/gary-harris-leaving-michigan-state-spartans-enter-nba-draft -
(2014) SF Josh Cunningham to Bradley
WindyCitySource replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I'm in the camp that doesn't worry about transfers. We read a lot about IU on this board and on various sites, but when you read about other programs and college basketball as a whole you can get a better picture of where the game is at right now. Transfers are a growing trend in college basketball to the point where every program should expect to lose a player to transfer pretty much every season. Go check out the transfer list that Jeff Goodman always keeps... it's absurd how many kids leave their schools. The numbers will continue to grow, especially with the grad transfer rules and kids getting waivers to play right away. Plus all the turnover with coaches means kids are going to continue to jump ship when their coach leaves/gets fired. -

I don't think it's wise to make a habit of posting everything from 247, Peegs or ESPN over here, but I think dropping a few tidbits here and there is probably OK. (imo) -

People are pretty quick to forget that Crean pulled Remy Abell from Bradley... and there are many people on this board that are pissed he isn't still on the IU roster. -
(2014) SF Josh Cunningham to Bradley
WindyCitySource replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I'll support it. He's most likely pulling it directly from another premium site, but so am I. I don't know how everyone feels about it over here (I've been cautioned on other boards in the past, which I think is fair), but the source of that information is the top dog at another recruiting site and only paying members have access to it. EDIT: By "feels about it," I meant sharing information you get here that you paid to read somewhere else. -
(2014) SF Josh Cunningham to Bradley
WindyCitySource replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Or it could be because he doesn't want to play the 4, like we've discussed before. Also he could start right away at Bradley, it's closer to home and in-state. There are legitimate reasons. -
(2014) C Trevor Thompson to OSU
WindyCitySource replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Careful what you say... there's a player on IU's roster who would fall into the same category by this logic.
