I truly don't understand how some cling to standards of decades past; it simply doesn't make any sense. It's a totally different climate, is it not?

The topic of winning consistently is what was referenced; only one team won more games in a two year period and that was the 75-76 group. That's all I was referring to.

I'd kind of forgotten how much of a sycophant Greenberg is. Dakich... I don't know. He's pretty critical of coaches if you ask me. Regarding that last statement, I don't understand how that's relevant. Not putting anyone down who thinks that; but there's no way of proving that other than to do it, so why hang it over every statement about the coach? Again, I get it. I just think too often he's a victim of his own success. And I'd say we have been winning consistently the past 4 years... Others may not. But we've sure won a lot of games, won a title in a gauntlet year. Second best two year stretch in school history behind the greatest team ever. Crean's sure done nothing at IU... Not trying to be antagonistic. I'm just amazed so many want to throw his time here in the trash. As if he hasn't displayed proven ability to do it all at IU.

There's no denying that! But so far I've yet to come across someone in the basketball world who believes he is in over his head. Most are generally impressed with what he's done in the wake. Enjoyed these two statements in particular: “The fact that he got it done in four years, that he had them to the tournament in four years, is astonishing. The fact that in year five they were going to the second tournament appearance for Indiana and winning the Big Ten championship, I don’t think he’s ever been given proper credit or appreciation for that." “It would be stupid [to fire Crean]. Crean should be the coach. There is not a chance that Indiana will or should even think about getting rid of Tom Crean. Among people who really understand basketball, it’s a silly discussion. With fans, you lose a game, and everyone should be fired; you win a game, and you’re the best coach ever.”

The reason I wanted to share that is because I am fascinated by the contrast of opinions between regional and national; DeCourcey made some really interesting points.

You don't think that's obvious? Everyone here knows that. That's not the argument I'm making. It's a consequence, not a reason not to fire someone. I didn't think that needed spelling out. It's cost/benefit. Some are willing to go all in. I don't think that's necessary yet. Stevens could potentially be available in two years, not now.

There is only one side. I am the only person who still believes tom crean knows anything about coaching.

It simply shows the illogical nature of fan adoration; the margin is that small. Tom Brady isn't a top 15 QB all time but he gets mentioned because of a kicker.

You obviously missed my point. It's impossible to assert that the coach isn't the most impactful figure; that doesn't mean when a program struggles, it is a direct result of a head coach's plan.

2014 looks like a solid class with two four year starters much like 2009. 2015 doesn't have an AA but there is one possibility to continue that streak. Other than not being able to replace Luke last spring, there's not a whole lot I'd change about the team right now.

It's a perception

Oh, I'm not heated. I really don't care that much haha. I just think it's sad how people hold expectations from years ago over the head of this coach and these kids and refuse to acknowledge that they've actually been pretty successful. It's not personal at all; it's no crusade. I'm really not tied to Crean or the program. I have no problem with the opinions of others or the other side. But there are many sides and I feel the positive side is persecuted around here. Because all anyone has to do to me is bring up any number of things (Syracuse, Marquette resume, etc) and here comes the cavalry. Kind of a tough spot to be in so you're right, it's a waste of time for me to express my thoughts. I'm clearly not the right kind of IU fan.  My problem with other opinions is when they are rooted in inaccuracies and revisionist history. It's frustrating.

I do this in reference to that very thing. The critics repeat the same talking points and catch phrase jokes over and over and act like they're geniuses because they can see that IU basketball isn't good. As if that takes some kind of acumen

Sometimes you have to be ridiculous to get a point across. Clearly you guys can't understand my perspective. I place a high value in knowledge and real understanding. It's not a bad thing fans don't have it; how could they? Being a fan is just following a program. Making these decisions is so much more.

Uh, no. It's not that people are clueless; it's that they don't have all of the information. But in today's age, they think they do because there is a 24-7 stream of "news."

Fans opinions don't mean anything. They aren't credible sources or factual.

You don't have a damn clue about me. Take everything in a literal way. Go beyond the obvious. I know that's hard for some of the fan boys
