2019 NIT Tournament
Baltimore Hoosier replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm not exactly sure how to explain it, but the idea that I am sitting here looking at the NIT bracket and analyzing matchups just seems dirty, embarrassing, and meaningless. It's like I'm the jilted lover who won't leave the apartment even though I'm not on the lease. -

I’m not saying by any means that they should, but is it possible that IU fires Archie? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Can't wait to see another lottery pick go to Duke. -
Sooooooo in other words.. Indiana (really to have a shot without sweating through my suit) has to do something that has only been done 3 other times by this team in the last 80 years in order to make the tournament?

Can the Hoosiers go dancing?
Baltimore Hoosier replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
IU needs to finally make some noise in the B1G Tourney, which has been their kryptonite since its inception in 1998. In fact, IU has only made 1 finals appearance, as a 4 seed, against Luke Recker, Reggie Evans, and Iowa in 2001. We all remember how that went... Since then, in the last 16 years, there are only 5 teams in the current B1G who haven't been to a conference tournament final. Indiana and Northwestern, then MD, Rutgers, and Nebraska who don't really count.. That is just inconceivable to me. If you're IU, you either figure out how to play hard and make a run or just stay the hell home. -

There’s a bunch of guys on this board trashing Archie.. Funny thing, some of them were the ones pushing hard for him during the coaching search. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

(2019) SG Romeo Langford (2.0)

Yikes. Will do. -
Smith is one of those guys who has so much athletic potential. He just seems so hesitant and never looks composed when he has the ball in his hands, despite playing major minutes. It leads to unforced turnovers, errant passes, and bad shots.. I'd love to see what this kid can do with a shot of confidence. Hopefully it doesn't take until his senior season to figure all this out.

(2021) G Luke Brown to Ball State
Baltimore Hoosier replied to HoosierCoop's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Totally agree.. He'll end up at Butler, Purdue, or Notre Dame if IU isn't careful. Then torch us in the Crossroad Classic. -
(2021) G Luke Brown to Ball State

Man.. The more I read, the more I feel like Leal and Brown are 'must get's' for this program. Winning attitudes, blue collar mentality, and legit shooting. YES PLEASE. -
No passion. No desire to get back on defense and beat the fast break. Lazy as ****. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

That is very ironic, considering IU's fast break offense is about as potent as my kid's U8 Knicks squad's.
-
Any thoughts from the coaching minds about Archie's system? Specifically, does the pack-line philosophy hinder IU from running any fast breaks? I think this team has about 10 points off of fast breaks for the entire season. Are too many guys in the lane looking for a defensive rebound or double teaming to try to get a stop and it prevents them from getting out and running? Obviously this isn't a run-and-gun team, but the fast-break offense is non-existent for this group, and it seems to me there are a couple guys on this roster who could be deadly on the run (Smith/Romeo/Juwan).

So some concerns I’m having...

Got it.. Where this team is sitting today doesn't really mean anything though. The schedule is brutal coming down the stretch. -

Not being critical of why you used those metrics, because I get that. Just saying I've never seen any data to back up the correlation between high school rankings and college output. I can think of several current NBA Superstars and even a Hall of Famer or two off the top of my head who weren't in the top 50/100 nationally coming out of high school and blew up in college. HOWEVER, using the eye test, I think what you're saying is 100% spot on. -

Baltimore Hoosier replied to Brass Cannon's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I hate using High School rankings to prove a point about college players because there are so many exceptions and under/over achievers. That being said, I do agree with what you're saying in terms of needing talented experience.. This team basically has none except for Morgan.. Has anyone really assessed the remaining schedule? I'd say in terms of making the tournament, this team should be in full panic mode. Where are wins going to come from coming down the stretch? @ Rutgers? Eh. At home vs Ohio State? UGH. Not to mention there are still 2 games vs Michigan State and Iowa.. I think this team is NIT-bound at best barring a total turnaround. -
Is he going to see the floor?
