So Senior member is more than just an earned title?

He seems pretty intent on playing, at the very least, in the Midwest. He's spoken with IU, Purdue, Butler, and OSU. Given that three Indiana schools made the cut, I'd surmise this is a good sign that he wants to be in the state. Not that we're in the greatest position, but I would still argue we have a lot more to offer him than Purdue and Butler. Looking at it that way, I'd say we have a good chance. Then again, I think I've wiffed on every single prediction lately, so maybe I should run the other direction with this one? Ultimately I'd love to see him come, spend that year off in the weight room and on the court learning how to use his body. It's not every day you get the chance to see a third year 7'er step on the court.

Hollowell & Etherington transferring..
Bryan Medema replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Visited IU over the weekend and made my regular visit to the HPER for the best pickup basketball this country has to offer. Ended up on a team with someone very close to the team and, while playing, talked to him about the state of the team. More or less had it confirmed that Hollowell was a poison in too many ways to list and that Etherington just found himself on the outside both in playing time and socially. Haven't been able to keep up with this thread, but that might be something worth considering. -
No kidding right? I think, as a stop gate at the least, he makes sense. We really need to ensure that one of these three open scholarships is left open (either by a 5th year or going unused) for a 2015 player.

Rhett seems like a quality option. We aren't mentioned amongst those interested though. Think that changes with AtLee off the board?

Does anyone know anything further regarding NCAA transfer eligibility and waivers? It would be odd that they directly remarked on Eron Harris seeking an immediete waiver if there wasn't some loop-hole.

Anyone have an insider account and can post the top 12 transfers?

Not bad at all, plus it fits the criteria of a relatively short rotation. The more Yogi/JB2/Troy we see, the better.

That's a tough pill to swallow but a pretty accurate assessment. I guess the next quesion is who SHOULD realistically see signficant playing time next year? I know that the status of Anthony Lee has a major impact on this, but any solid hypotheticals on how deep this team should run?

Glad I'm not the only one to notice these.

(2014) PF Anthony Lee to OSU
Bryan Medema replied to maxwell's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
He did tweet out a picture sent to him by IU fans last night of two student in homemade "Lee"-shirts. I'd take that as a good sign. -
Especially given CTCs pension for trying to spread playing time to everyone with strange substitutions, 1 less player who can take the court might actually be beneficial.

Given how the likely composition of our roster next year (guard heavy, short on big-men) will have a significant impact on our ability to rebound the basketball, Cunningham's numbers combined with our need seem to indicate the potential to be a medium impact player. Further, his box scores indicate he can be a proverbial "State sheet stuffer"- A do everything type in the mold of Sheehey.

K***** S****** to Houston?

Nailed it on the head. -
Couldn't agree more. One of our biggest issue was that we seemed to give guys minutes for the sake of giving them minutes; not because they could produce or because of the current in-game scenario. The transfer post pointed out that Marlin played "clutch" minutes. I agree that the transfers might help if only open up playing time and ensure that the right players are on the court at the right time.

Hollowell & Etherington transferring..
Bryan Medema replied to ccgeneral's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
It's sensible opinion, however I doubt I'm out of line saying that the players who currently make up the foundation of the team (Yogi and Troy) are still here which should hopefully provide an accurate bellweather regarding the true state of stability. When it comes down to it, Hollowell certainly wasn't going to be a bedrock player and, in spite of his spirit, Ethrington wasn't either. As far as the walk-ons go, has there been any information as to why they are transfering? It seems like a lot of questions could be answered through their reasoning rather than the afformentioned players. -
The Great S%&* Storm of 2014
Bryan Medema replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I guess part of crafting a proper prespective would involve looking at other high major programs and seeing what their transfer rate for bench warmers/role players is. I think it's not overly presumptuous to say that Etherington was never brought to be a starter, however he may have decided he wanted the opportunity to do so at a smaller program. As for the rest, we can all come up with a litany of reasons but ultimately the fact that these are young men who have, likely, always been the best in their respective fish-bowls are suddenly being asked to sit can be jarring. Hopefully Crean can recruit players who understand that their best path to the court is effort but that, ultimately, talent might win out. Looking forward to the next few years, the best course of action is probably adding 2 graduate transfers or just leaving a scholarship vacant. We need to bring it at least 2 players a year, with at least 1 being a 3-4 year player, to ensure that we have continuity and maintain a positive culture. Does anyone have any further information regarding players seeking graduate transfer exemption? -
The Great S%&* Storm of 2014
Bryan Medema replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Unfortunately CBB players don't have the luxury of long careers to develop, they only get 4(5). Jeremy has already used 2 of his and is yet to show significant improvement or investment in improvement. Both observational and anecdotal evidence suggests that his lethargic play on the court is a greater reflection of his commitment. Considering how IU has thrived and adored players who's motors exceed their talents, he's just not a proper fit. Hopefully he goes somewhere else and finds his fire. If not, it's an open scholarship and dead weight dropped for us. -
The Great S%&* Storm of 2014
Bryan Medema replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
True, but he's played outright lethargic at (most of the) times. He was inefficient and seemed to have no motor. You can have players who appear emotionless so long as they still appear to give an effort. Hollowell had neither the emotion or the drive to succeed. -
