This is worse than trying to qual for Little 5 at noon. By selection time I'll have bitten my Fingernails to the bone and won't be able to harass Alford Baily with my optimism.

Bubble Breakdown - March 12th
Bryan Medema replied to IU Hoosier41's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Most brackets I've seen we're in, though everyone treats it like picking their little brother in a pick-up game- More obligation than anything. -
Really simple question- Under the assumption we make the tournament, would you rather we go straight to the group of 64 or have have to play in one of the play-in games? Oddly enough, I'd like to see this team play in a play-in game. I think the the momentum would serve us well going into the actually field of 64. Plus, if it means bonus basketball, so be it. What're your thoughts? Note- Not a forum for debating IF we'll get in, just the merits (selfish or basketball related) of your preference.

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't have plans Tuesday night.

Funniest thread since the one that said we'll get Brad Stevens this year.

Exactly. Coaching the post isn't Crean's strong-suit (that's not an open door to derail things), he's best with multi-tool perimeter players. Adding a poster player alone won't make this team better (EX: Vonleh's year) if the product around it isn't suited to the coaches style of play. I've said it too many times to count (though with less than 200 posts it wouldn't be too hard to track) but I really feel this team is well suited to CTC's style and adding a big man will help provide the requisite floor spacing on offense to make it work. As for defense, I feel that's going to be a particular emphasis this offseason. Our incoming class seems like it will slide naturally into defensive roles and bolster our ability to defend 12-deep. The height of the incoming players plus (as I pray to RMK) Thomas Bryant, should provide us with enough size on offense to consistently execute our preferred shooting and slashing offense (even if TB is only scoring ~6 a game, his impact will be huge) while providing the length and depth we desperately need to keep our defense consistent/respectable. -

I don't think that's the issue though. So much of our team's inability to stay consistent on offense was our opponents cheating out to the perimeter when it was clear we were getting too tired to drive. Regardless of the usage rate of a post player like TB, it opens up the ability for our team to do what it does best- Drain the 3. From there we open up more dribble-drive penetration as well. Just like sometimes the best defense isn't blocking the shot (just altering it) the best offense is the threat of offense. -

No Sir. Any help would be great! -
Three predictions have gone away while IU/UK/Mizzous percentages have gone up (without receiving more). Cold feet by some soothsayers.
-
So anyone else find it funny that a number of crystal ball predictions on Bryant have been deleted? That's some Chad Ford bullshit right there.

While I'm certain this has been a topic discussed at length, I'm curious where current opinions stand. This thread is not intended to harp on Coach Crean, it is intended to provide an opportunity to discuss the potential successors (whether short term or a few years down the road). The basic parameters for this are an emphasis on realistic candidates (much as everyone on here would LOVE that John Calipari...) and that the change will be made in the next 1-3 years (again, not a complaint against Crean just examining what realistic alternatives exist). For the purposes of this topic, realistic can extend to anyone with a direct IU tie that makes them at least worth considering. My personal thoughts are that the next coach the program brings in will be an Indiana man in one of two senses: 1) An Alum or 2) Someone with deep regional ties. Obviously a fringe candidate like Stevens falls into the latter (and yes, I know, he is hardly in the realm of realistic). The targets I could see IU pursuing (In no particular order).... Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics HC), Steve Alford (IU '87, UCLA HC), Calbert Cheaney (IU '93, StLU AC), Mike Woodson (IU '80, LA Clippers AC) Interested in other opinions regarding who's out there and what the potential pros and cons of any given candidates are. (Full disclosure: I'd love to see Alford as HC with him trying to bring Cheaney back into the fold somehow)

Good quote from that article though- Sums up my feelings on this whole situation: "If the Hoosiers are able to add Morgan, Anunoby, and Bryant while maintaining the core of this basketball team - Indiana would be an incredibly dangerous team next season and with Tom Crean's coaching seat growing white hot, a commitment by Thomas Bryant could change the course of history for this Indiana program and Tom Crean himself."

Can one of the Admins ban this guy for ruining my day/week/month? Making me sad constitutes banning right?

(2016) SG Rawle Alkins to Arizona

So where exactly do we stand with this kid? I think media campaign is fantastic, but (for what it's worth) 247 doesn't even recognize us as a contender. Any info? -
I was there and I totally saw/heard this in between my 5th beer and 2nd flask. Scouts honor.

I'd like to buy this man a beer or twelve. -
So do we have any confirmation that during timeouts on Saturday CTC just walked up to TB/TM/MM and circled the middle of the post and said "THIS IS WHAT WE NEED!" (while just yelling "JUST SHOOT THE DAMN 3" at the huddle)? If so I don't know what else needs to be done besides asking TB number he'd like and what his jersey size is.

IU Basketball is IU culture
Bryan Medema replied to theriverpilot's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I lucked/worked my way into a ton of random IU bucket list tasks (Sang a solo in the auditorium, rode little 500, ran little 50, stormed the court vs KY, been on the floor more times than I can count, and got a pep-talk from CTC)...but nothing tops my opportunity to play on the actual floor at Assembly Hall (Army v Air Force, we got demolished). During warm ups I was so amped up I bruised my forearm on the rim...I was later asked if I was cutting myself. I've already told my fiance that if one of our children goes to IU and the other doesn't, I know which one I'll love more. -
I know I heard rumors a while back that he was brought here with only 1 year guarunteed. Obviously that's "wrong" but with the way college sports run these days...
-
My main discriminator on Stevens v Donovan (long term) is that Stevens' ties to Indiana could prove critical in recruiting the state (which is loaded with talent the next few years especially).
-
In this hypothetical realm, who do you think would better choice to coach the team as it stands/would look like next year? Assuming that Yogi, Troy and JBJ are back (the key pieces if you will) and we get one (1) of the post players we're looking at (Bryant or Maker)... I think Donovan could wreck (more) havoc with that roster. Then again, in theory anyone should (though if that was true, we wouldn't be having this discussion).

Welp, this secondary topic is closed/won. You can put that on your sig-line as well.

So if this scenario came to fruition AND Ca$h-Money-Cal left UK for the NBA, just how terrible would the SEC be?

[Stock Snarky Comment Regarding Crean's inability to properly use post players] -
Ha! I did colorguards for all 4-years. They used to always give us great seats, a practice I believe they have ceased (which is bull-shit in my mind).
