Indiana vs. Iowa Official Game Thread (7pm ET, ESPN)

[quote name="bleedhoosier" post="143631" timestamp="1425406535"]I don't really want to nitpick this but it's a pet peeve of mine. Put a team on the floor that fans can get excited about Coach. Don't implore the fans to make extra noise. We will do that just fine when there is a reason for it. This isn't your first 3 years.. do ur job..[/quote Every athletic department and coach in the country sends emails like this. Coach K gets on the mic in Cameron Indoor before the game to speak to the crowd and get them pumped up. -
Potential coaching change suggestions
TheStillman replied to Bryan Medema's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Here's the thing, it is highly unlikely we get any of 1 through 4. 1. Stevens is currently in a top 3 coaching job in all of sports. I know many think he'd leave that for IU and maybe he would but I don't see it. 2. Hoiberg is known as the Mayor in Ames. He went to Iowa State. He's not leaving. 3. Bennett is arguably the most likely of this group but he has a great situation in Virginia. Does he leave that AND overlook the fact that IU fired his sister? 4. Donovan: I don't understand why he'd leave Florida. He can compete in the SEC every year, has great weather and a fanbase that won't come after him if a couple things go wrong. Also he makes a ton of money at a University that will have the funds to step up and pay him more if anyone comes calling. Marshall would probably take the job though assuming someone else doesn't come in and offer him something better. -

Excited for this one. Let's turn the ship around -
I don't think there is any sort of "plateau" that needs to be reached. Just looking at the bubble if we beat one of Iowa or MSU then we have a worthy tournament resume.
-
This seems about right. We all knew it would come down to these final 2 but I expect to win at least 1 at which point we should be in. If you're surprised why we are in you should get out of the IU bubble for lack of a better word. The overall crop of tourney teams is somewhat weak at the bottom and we have the benefit of beating teams that are solidly in (SMU, Maryland, Butler, Ohio State) while also beating other bubble teams (Illinois and Pitt). Honestly though I would rather be an 11 than a 8, 9 or 10. The drop off from the teams at the 1 or 2 seed level to the 3 seed level is big. In addition most of the 6 seed type teams are also winnable games. Being an 11 will end up being an easier path than being an 8/9/10.

Still think we get in with 1 more win. 3 straight losses and we'll be sweating on Selection Sunday

That was Doug Gottlieb

Not say crean is bad coach just questioning some of his choice
TheStillman replied to Hoosiers High Life's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Disagree with the guy and his style/results/etc, but Crean definitely worked his ass off and exhibits intelligence to have the career he's had. It may not be up to the level we define is needed to coach Indiana University but the dude is successful for a reason. -
He did have that and it was part of the reason he was so valuable as a player. That attitude led to his on court persona

At the time of the extension in 2012-13 Crean was signed through 2018-19. As you said the program was in the midst of big success. It seems simple in hindsight to say that Glass should have told Crean no and moved on but it really is not. Crean had a lot of leverage and he had a simple negotiating point that to take the next step as he's recruiting 2014, 2015 and 2016 guys he needs a contract to point to players that he will be around and he has the full support of the University. It is simple to look back now and say it was a mistake but at that moment in time any AD in the country would have made that deal. -

Glass was definitely qualified. He put together the entire deal to build Lucas Oil so that Indianapolis could keep the Colts and eventually host the Super Bowl. I really don't think that Glass is tied to Crean and the analogy to Michigan is weak. The Dave Brandon situation had as much if not more to do with the issue with that player who clearly got a concussion which was followed by Brandon and Hoke lying about it for a day then admitting the lie. Buy-outs like Crean has are the norm in big time athletics. Crean's is not outlandish for other coaches at this level who have had success. Keep in mind at that time just a year earlier Crean had to release a video denying interest in the Michigan State job when Izzo nearly left for the Cavs. So he was a sought after coach and after 2011-12 it was time to renegotiate as any AD would with any coach. All this is to say that it was not a ridiculous business deal for IU to make with Crean even though it has become a rallying cry for those whose hindsight is 20-20 that Glass is somehow incompetent at his job. -

Taking a look at Wisconsin's schedule and didn't realize how easy a road they got so far. This was their first really tough road game. That team is really good don't get me wrong but man they didn't have to go anywhere tough on the road until last night.

The holes in this roster are baffling
TheStillman replied to Magnanimous's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Your exact quote was "Couldn't see him averaging less than 10 & 8". Aloha examined players who had done this over the past few years and it showed that if he were to achieve this it would mean he'd likely by All-B1G. I'm not saying it is impossible, but it seems highly unlikely that he could step in to the B1G for one season and join that list of players who have gotten 10 and 8. -
Northwestern pre-game 2/25 7pm

I think April's offensive rating and block percentage would plummet if he played the same 403 minutes that Hanner played. -

Do you think if Mockevicius were on a B1G team he would end up being on any of the All-Conference teams? Based on that list of players that is the level of player he would need to be to meet your expectations for stats. -

Except for the fact that the guy he is talking about may not even be available. -
Big Ten Tournament - Can Indiana get a Double Bye?

The loss to Wisconsin in 2011-12 was one of the most disappointing games I have ever watched. Rob Wilson man -

If he decides to transfer he will be available but who knows if that will come to fruition. -

I think that if it was a possibility Crean would've been happy to take a chance on Mockevicius, but he wasn't transferring so it is a moot point. Clearly Crean was looking at guys like him with the recruitment of Lee and Thompson but there are not many guys like that out there. Unless you have a specific example of a guy like Mockevicius that was available and Crean passed on recruiting I don't really see your point. In fact I would argue that a guy like Mockevicius is more likely to be found by bringing in kids like Priller and April who are lightly recruited and can be developed within the program. -

Pretty much. No one is really that impressed with him here given the presence of a thread like this. I think Hanner would do really well for himself in the MVC. -

Not true. Pretty much every town square in every major city in the US had a huge watch party for the US games in this World Cup. If we were in the final everyone would be tuned in. -

They may be ranked high but they do not have much size. I think the point is that to say a guy who is one of the biggest and most experienced bigs in a mid-major could just step in to the B1G where he is playing guys his size every night will see only a slight drop-off in stats is taking a big leap. He had 15 and 11 against Wichita but he also had 8 and 4 against Drake and 10 and 4 against Southern Illinois. If any IU big had stats like that against either of those teams who have almost no size no one would be impressed. -

I'd take it as a complement. The World Cup is one of the best months. Wish it happened more often than every 4 years.
