I've just followed message boards long enough to be very skeptical of a poster "in the know" no disrespect to anyone here, it's just how it is Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners -
I will say that I have personally confirmed multiple things Basketball4u has posted. That being said, everyone can get wrong information from time to time so don't take everything he says as the truth. Still use caution to what he says and try to find other sources to confirm. I've had discussions with him outside of the forum and don't believe he would come and troll fans or post rumors. Just want to make sure other posters don't go crazy if they see him post something in the future. Always use caution when reading a message board!! Nothing against you Basketball4u, just making sure we don't have issues down the. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
Trust me I am always skeptical of reports on message boards. What you posted is more what I was looking for. Can't tell if mods are saying this report is 100% true or if they trust this poster isn't a troll. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners -

Yeah this seems weak to me. It's not the talking about it that seems unfair to me (It's the internet say what you want) but for mods to state it as fact without saying why is really unfair to the kids. That on top of if anybody questions it they will be pushed aside as uninformed is just disappointing. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

More directed towards mods. Why should everyone trust this information? What have the mods seen that makes them so confident that it is 100% correct? -

My question is more that everyone is having a big mea culpa because this is now common knowledge that Stan and Troy failed drug tests. BUT can someone outline these sources and everything? To many reading this its just internet talk regardless of whether admins on here approve of it or followed it to the top. In fairness to those two can we ALL get some backup info? -

Can you guys post something that outlines these allegations and the sources you have confirming it? -

Honest question, isn't there a mandatory suspension for a failed test? Seems a bit weak to call it fact based on two guys posting on a forum. -

This post isn't meaningless to the overall Crean discussion. There's been a lot of unproven speculation about how Crean lost this team, there was no unity and that everyone was going to transfer because they didn't believe in the program. Maybe, just maybe that isn't going to happen. Then again I was wrong back in the day when Hulls and Elston left for Butler and Watford transferred to Alabama.

Went to the NCAAs and had 20 wins 5 of 9 years, finished top 5 in a loaded Big East all 3 years after Marquette joined the conference, left his best team since the Final Four squad in 2008-09 to come to IU. Was the right hand man to Tom Izzo and widely considered responsible for assembling and developing the players that won a title at State in 2000. Not saying anything everyone here doesn't know but just highlighting that when you look at candidates for IU all of the shiny new objects look great, but Crean had a very good resume coming to IU as well and out of all the mistakes made by IU admins hiring Crean is not one of them. Hindsight is 20-20 as they say and the flavor of the week right now is that Crean was not a hire worthy of Indiana. Well his resume says different and I would bet that if he was gone tomorrow we'd end up hiring someone with a similar resume coming to IU. Not saying they wouldn't do better just talking on paper resume.

Who would you hire to replace CTC?
I see a lot of limited expectations from posters here that remind me of the Davis era. IU should not settle for anything less than the very best coach available anywhere. We should be prepared to pay out the $ to get him also. IU seemingly has a good AD now unlike its past 100 years of mostly pathetic ADs. IU suffers from a political board of trustees that are there only because they kissed the right rear ends. Its really a structural problem affecting the whole university system of governance. If IU is ever to be a top athletic program and academic university it needs to reform how the board is selected and stop trying to always look for IU people to run things. That's how the football and basketball dropped to their current levels and how IU has slowly gone so far down in academics.
IUs academic profile has only risen in recent years Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Don't want to offend anyone but virginia under Bennett went to the tourney once in 2012 and lost 71-45 to Florida. He still has yet to win a game in the tourney at UVA. Let's relax on anointing him as the next great coach. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
Everyone complains about Crean now. But I'm looking at things 6 years ago. Was it the wrong hiring decision then? I remember 6 years ago when I was in 5th grade I wrote a persuasive essay about why Tony Bennett was the right coach for IU. Looking at what we've done and what Virginia (where Bennett is now) has done, it seems to me that they're in the better position. Their offense has flow to it, they have one of the best defenses in the nation, and he's been able to get good local recruits. And they did something IU makes look impossible, win the conference tournament. Am I crazy or was 5th grade me right?
Please post what you wrote in 5th grade. I'm sure you had any clue what you were talking about. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

6 years ago IU should have hired a coach who had been to a final 4 with a mid major, developed a no name into an NBA superstar and been groomed underneath one of best coaches in country. Oh wait, that's what IU did! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
I wouldn't be. 15 years as a head coach, and has fewer conference championships than Mike Davis? 1 Final Four and not getting particularly close again? 90+% of his career spent wallowing in so-so? Even taking away the name Tom Crean that doesn't sound like a coach that should be at a program like IU.
You deleted the beginning of my post where I said cherry pick stats to make your candidate sound good. Even so I'd take Crean over Paulus/Fife/Lansing who are all mentioned on this thread Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Probably need to quote the post you are answering. But assume you are referring to Bennett and IU. Heard it both ways, who knows.
It should be noted that at time of the Crean hire he was a better candidate than Bennett based on resume and pedigree as coach. If UVa loses in sweet 16 will people still clamor for Bennett or will they gloss over that part of his resume? They've had a great year and I think Bennett is a good coach but if our biggest gripe with Crean is his ability to get the most out of his team in tourney this seems important.
As the AD, given the circumstances; massive buyout, one year removed from a B1G conference title, donor money, etc., who would you put your job on the line for today? Not a list of candidates or coaches that wouldn't leave their current jobs this year or next. Please name a coach that you would hire.
My guess: you won't get many answers because the list of realistic candidates that are worth the risk involved in that maneuver is extremely small. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

If IU doesn't have the pull to get a super star coach right now then it never will again IMO. I think the discussions surrounding up and coming coaches are funny because it is the ultimate cherry picking of stats and experience. Someone could throw out Crean's entire resume under a different name and everyone would say yeah we should totally hire that guy! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
I don't know if we'd be able to sign a super star coach, unless we put out a huge amount of money to hire them. And of course that is already going to be difficult because of Crean's massive buyout. There are other issues with hiring someone seen as a super star coach. Money is going to be an issue. And from a pure basketball standpoint I don't know if we'd be seen as a superior program to what they are already. I'm not a fan of limiting the people we could hire as a coach either.
Not a fan of limiting options either but if you're paying so much money to buy out a coach you better be damn confident the coach is the perfect fit. None of these guys match that at all and I'd go as far to say that if the coaching search ended with any of them as head coach it was a failure. Not to say those guys can't and won't succeed in their careers but for Indiana at this juncture it's not the right fit. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
