(2014) C Trevor Thompson to OSU
Is this guy really the answer? Not impressed at all. No immediate help for 2014.. No thanks. Unless he takes Jurkin's spot on the bench.
A 6'11" RS Soph could be valuable for us in 2015. Does the NCAA ever allow for a player in this situation to transfer immediately with the coaching change? If they don't it seems like they should but the NCAA never lacks for stupidity. (2014) PF Anthony Lee to OSU
Except it works as a whole unit, not backcourt vs frontcourt. You can scheme to hide one weakness on D, at least to some extent, not multiple weaknesses.
Absolutely and that's the problem we face. My argument is simply given the choice between an undersized frontcourt and undersized backcourt I'll take the undersized backcourt every time. The issues we face next year are driven by our lack of size down low and not JBJ Stan and Yogi being small Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
Well, it's a Tom Crean team, so we shouldn't expect a great defense no matter what. We're going to lack size. But take some solace in the fact that the advanced numbers suggest Lee is an OK defender at best and was terrible this year. It is at least possible that Hanner and Devin can be better than he would have been for us.
I do think that a lineup of Yogi Stan Troy Devin Hanner Can hold it's own defensively.
And JBJ is at best gonna be an average defender at this level immediately. If anything he'll be a minus defender at this level from the beginning. Having someone who can't defend his position on the wing is going to lead to just as many, and more than likely more, issues at this level than are two guys who are giving up size down low
I disagree. It is much easier to hide a minus backcourt defender in your team defense than it is to hide an undersized frontcourt defender Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -
... That isn't going to help anything. For one JBJ is already being labeled as an average defender at the high school level, Big Ten is a step up. Our defense will suffer from starting 3 guys that small
Our defense will suffer because we have to give major minutes to Troy and Devin at the 4/5. Yogi and Stan are both plus defenders and the size down low is a much bigger concern than our size on the wings. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Who would you hire to replace CTC?
Have to agree with that. Not sure how he is gonna pan out on the NBA level but he ain't going to leave after 1 season or even 2 unless they fired him. So he is not an option Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
It's also not like he is coaching the Charlotte Bobcats. Is Coach Crean feeling the heat?
TheStillman replied to Plasticjimmyhat's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
If we're discussing performance of players can people at least get names spelled correct? I've seen Wafford and Vonley written recently when critiquing a player, just tough to take your points seriously when you don't know their names. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

I just wish people would allow the fact that Brad Stevens coaches the most storied NBA franchise and is locked down in that role for at least the next 5 years to sink in their brain. On top of that when asked about missing Butler he said he misses the people and the school but none of the particulars of the college game. Brad Stevens is not walking through the doors of Cook Hall Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

OT: UNLV's coach considering South Florida
What does Cody have to do with it? Noah was projected one and done because sit was considered a deeper than normal draft class. We all knew this when he committed to IU.
The point is even if Noah wasn't completely happy with this year he has to give the program some credit for solidifying his position and displaying hi strengths. There's more examples of recruits ranked in range he was that didn't go one and done than ones who actually did. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

I won't be there but best advice I can give is hang around Lucas Oil tonight and when the game ends try to befriend someone from the losing side. For the regionals you generally are forced to buy tickets for both days. The losing team fans will be selling Sundays ticket on the cheap (talking was less than half of face value). I remember after the Kentucky loss in Atlanta IU fans were selling to scalpers for like $5-$10. Guilted a Kentucky fan into buying mine for face value haha Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners

PG: Yogi SG: JBJ SF: Troy PF: Devin C: Hanner Stan first off bench getting starter minutes RJ next From there we have a lot to shake out with recruiting but assume we will get a big or 2 and just out necessity they will have to immediately be on court. Would put that rotation at PG, SG and SF against anyone in B1G. A bleak outlook down low no doubt will rely on improvement from Hanner which is a tough proposition. This just highlights how important the Lee recruitment is. If not him Crean needs to find a competent big who can at least play 10-15 mins a game Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners
If penetrating a true zone is so easy, why has it been so effective at Syracuse?
I said simple not easy, there's a subtle difference between the two in that a strategy can be simple however that doesn't make effectively executing the strategy easy. Syracuse's zone is simple but their execution makes it difficult to beat Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners -

All about the defensive game plan. I thought it was clear from the outset what Crean's strategy was, switch everything, not sure why the players couldn't get that right on court. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners -

Absolutely. A shame we had one of the worst 3 pt shooting game of year, players had a face of panic as did coaches. I always feel like the coaching blame for that game falls on the offense but personally I thought our defensive game plan was the reason we lost. Crean did not figure out a way to overcome their length. When we made the second half run, got within 10 they easily made a counter run because their length just destroyed us.
Couldn't agree more. One of our biggest issue was that we seemed to give guys minutes for the sake of giving them minutes; not because they could produce or because of the current in-game scenario. The transfer post pointed out that Marlin played "clutch" minutes. I agree that the transfers might help if only open up playing time and ensure that the right players are on the court at the right time.
I think this will change a bit next year. In 2011-12 IU had a much shorter bench, playing 7-8 a game. Crean had an awful feel for this team and he never got it the entire year. I certainly wasn't in practice but from what we saw in game action I imagine day to day there was a ton of inconsistency in practice making the subbing patterns even tougher to figure out for the staff. Not an excuse because it's on them to figure it out regardless. Then again inconsistency is a reflection of the coaches which is IMO one of reasons people struggle to figure out Crean. He can win big games and do it with very good game plans and pushing the right buttons throughout the game (Michigan 2014, @Michigan 2013 final 2 minutes, @MSU 2013, MSU at home 2012). I'll even give him some credit in a loss to Kentucky in sweet 16 (the man to man 4 on 5 defense worked well to rush Kentucky's offense making it into an up and down game. Still think if Vic doesn't foul out we win that game. One of his best games as a Hoosier). The same can be said about Crean preparing poorly for a game and obviously those have been discussed ad nauseum here Crean is just so inconsistent year to year and game to game and that is his biggest issue over in game coaching. Breaking a zone is simple, you either need to hit your 3 point shots or penetrate middle with a big that can shoot the midrange jumper. In last years game against Syracuse I remember distinctly one of the first plays of the game Zeller got the ball at free throw line, faced up and could have taken the jumper. He decided to instead attack the rim and got blocked. Knew from that moment it would be a long day. Fast forward a week later and one of first plays against Syracuse McGary got ball at free throw line turned and without hesitation made a jumper. Knew from that moment Michigan had that game. Wouldn't you rather he continue posting and sharing what he does? If nothing else it's interesting to hear stories/perspective. You don't have to think much of him, but there's no reason for you to try and get everyone else to disregard him Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
Certainly and I don't think he will stop posting because of me especially now that he's gained a lot of credibility with higher ups at site. That's fair it's their site and they've researched it more than me. Just like many expressed skepticism on coaching staff even when we were rolling 2011-13 I am introducing some with this. It's healthy to express it especially when there's a ton of guests viewing a public board. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners
