Crean $20,000 for perfect academic progress rate
TheStillman replied to Basketball4iU's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Not to mention wasting time being honored at an event like the Dick Vitale Gala. Priorities Tom! -
It's actually an interview with NBA TV.

Haha tell me over the past 20 years when Indiana did not look up to Michigan State, Ohio State, Kentucky, Louisville and Wisconsin? Harris would've been a good, not great get. We will have plenty of perimeter talent over next couple years without Harris. I think it is unfair for anyone to now question his character and say he wasn't a good enough person for this program.
-
Agree completely. People tend to get a bit myopic when someone leaves a job in the program, I'm not talking about the transfers more on the coaching and operations side. It goes all the way back to when Drew Adams left the program for New Mexico people had some of the same reactions that he was running from Crean, likewise with KJ and Calbert. Guys will take jobs that allow them to climb the ladder and there is nothing wrong with that. Whether you like your boss or not you will do that.

Yeah how could someone in the gym get this wrong?
-
Yeah was curious what happened to that as well.

I am speaking from my experience living in DC for a summer and having a sister that has lived in the surrounding areas for over 8 years as well as innumerable trips to DC in my lifetime. What that breadth of experience has shown me is everything you say is not true. They don't even allow food or drink on the Metro and it's a rule strictly enforced. The entire system is extremely clean compared to its comps. I used to go out for happy hour all the time by Verizon Center and my experiences were always positive. Not sure when you were there but it's just not an accurate description of the current state of the City. As far as your comparison to Detroit. I've also been to Detroit, I know the city of Detroit, DC is a million times nicer and cleaner. I laughed out loud at your assertion. DC is the most expensive place to live in the US. The high rents seen in that city would not have happened if it looked as you are describing.

IU matched UConn as far as fans in MSG in November. I thought it was funny that a lot of my friends from MSU complained that UConn had a home court advantage in MSG in the tournament. I responded that it was on MSU fans because IU was able to match UConn in their backyard.

DC is actually a very clean city and the public transportation is the cleanest I've ever been in. The public transportation will bring you in from any surrounding area including Fairfax, VA or anywhere in Maryland suburbs as well. The area around Verizon Center will be pretty good around the games if you ask me. A lot of bars and places to eat before/after games. Makes for a great weekend and the memorials and monuments won't be too crowded in the spring, the busy season for those is in the summer. I think Indy is the perfect setup for this event but if you are going to other locations in the B1G footprint, DC is a great option. Personally I think DC is WAY better than Chicago/United Center which is so far out of the way and in an unsavory part of town. As far as why no one in DC roots for Skins and Wizards, it has more to do with it being a transient population who live and work in DC for the government. It is truly an international town and people have their own allegiances already when they move there. It has nothing to do with where the stadiums are located as both FedEx Field and Verizon Center are easily accessible on public transportation. It is time for many of you to face the facts, it is not OUR league, it is just a league. Doesn't matter when the team joined I welcome them with open arms. Look at Maryland, they've been dragged through litigation and paid millions of dollars to join. Says something about the B1G ($$$$, but regardless) that they would do that and I appreciate it. I think the Terps will be a great addition from a basketball standpoint. They may win the league next season with their returning team as well as incoming recruits.

Most buzz recently is with Pistons and that could also be a good spot in that he could play behind Monroe, a prototypical PF who Vonleh could learn from. Then again they have a huge logjam at the position and it's not the greatest place off the court right now.
-
He would've been the #1 pick is Stevens was coach at IU

You are right that I don't know anything about you. You posted that Crean doesn't get credit for Zeller's draft position. I guess I would appreciate an explanation of what we can and cannot give him credit for. I give blame to him for this year but unlike others I am not now looking back at the years the team did well and dissecting what can and cannot be attributed to Crean. To bring this back on topic as 41 requested. Vonleh remains right below that top tier of prospects and I agree with Hov that he won't drop past 8. My guarantee for draft night: if Vonleh goes higher than expected Crean doesn't get credit, if he goes lower than expected it is Crean's fault.
-
It actually was not a total shock that he went 4th because Chad Ford tweeted days before the draft that Bobcats were looking hard at Zeller at 4 AND NBADraft.net had him at 4th in their final mock draft. I wasn't in the front office and neither were you which makes your comment about MJ make no sense.

Big Ten/Big East Press Conference
TheStillman replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Yeah I honestly miss finals week. So you have a couple intense days, after those days are over you have nothing to do except chill in Bloomington. I'll take that any day. -
Ok I meant most. The point still stands though.
-
For while this was the case but in the week leading up to the draft those same insiders said Cody was jumping up draft boards. On that night he was not going to fall out of top 6 in my opinion because the Bobcats, Pelicans (eventually traded Noel but it was their pick) and Suns were all targeting front court players. It just happens that the Bobcats decided Cody could help them immediately versus Len and Noel who were injured all year. Also, look back at that draft, the players drafted after him did not do that much better and I think given how he played in 2nd half of season the Bobcats (Hornets now) feel pretty good about their pick.
Yeah we really shouldn't give Crean credit for the Bobcats making a bad pick. Cody might turn into a decent role player, but you don't want a role player with the 4th overall pick.
If it was up to you Crean wouldn't get credit for anything. We get it, you don't like the guy and want to discount anything he's done. I think he had a bad year as coach this year but also think it's ridiculous the revisionist history many, including yourself, are now taking on Crean's job well done from 2011-13.
The reason he was a top 5 pick was because of MJ plain and simple. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
Didn't realize you were in the draft war room for Bobcats. Who did the rest of that front office want to pick? Who were other teams going to take and when? Would like to hear insights since it seems we have another insider on board Also can't ignore the fact that the consensus among GMs was that Zeller and Oladipo were most prepared for pre-draft workouts/interviews. Zeller was going in top 7 picks regardless of MJ. Suns may have picked him 5th instead of Len for all we know. A little absurd to say it was all MJ. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
Through a former IU player ..he said. "Cody said he didn't feel like he improved during his second year, due to the lack of training in his position , (in some ways I believe he and Noah feel the same) On another note, one of the coaches said "CC was ruining Cody". It is not odd that he came back because this is IU .. They totally had the players to win and he knew it. It was not about Cody ..he wanted the bigger picture. They felt a year to mature would be the difference. These are big decisions and once you are here it is really hard to say oops this is not for me, nobody will get it if you say that...especially the beloved Mr Basketball's picking IU. Jordan would have never left but I know he will tell you his HS coach had the X's and O's down to a science, but I don't think he would say that in college. IMO, I think they all felt the more good players the better we will be.. But they struggled. Now with kids who don't bleed IU ...it is getting difficult, they don't like it and they leave. At this point that is all I can say. You can take it for what it's worth... I want success just as much as anyone here. I hope things change for the better and we become everything they say we can't . I will be on the sidelines every game in my cream and crimson.. Btw I am pretty sure I have never said anyone hates Crean because that is not the case, and I rarely use that word. Most really like Crean the man, just disagree with Crean the coach. In the gym
Crean ruined Cody? Look back at where Cody was ranked and projected as. Cody, while a good prospect, was not projected as a top 5 pick in draft out of college. He thrived in Creans offense and his ability to get on break, which Crean allowed him to do, is the reason he was a top 5 pick. Crean would have been ruining him if he sat him down low and never allowed his versatility to show. That didn't happen. Sorry just not going to believe your generalities. I've seen your twitter account (before you changed the name/when it matched what your handle was here) and to say you have an agenda is almost selling it short. Based on what you've posted there it is clear you just don't like the current regime and are trying to prove your point by acting as an insider in a message board. People can believe you and keep posting whatever you want. I'm just not buying it and I encourage others to take everything you say with a giant grain of salt. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners
Although never spoken to the media, I have to say Cody, Jordan and obviously those who have left felt the similar and I hate it that Noah is getting a bad rap because he's just not that kind of guy, just misspoke at wrong time to the wrong people. In the gym
Felt similar in what way? Crean led those guys on a really good two year run. Don't really follow you and think you're being unfair to them and the discourse on Crean by now just making blanket statements that they weren't happy. You're an "insider" so people take your word as the truth. I am sure you have an agenda and your goal is to make it seem like everyone who has ever played for Crean is unhappy. I'm personally unconvinced by your blanket statements. Regardless, the point with Vonleh is every statement he's made publicly since leaving for the draft has shown his immaturity. He is going to be a pro now and the NBA will eat him alive unless he matures now. I wish him the best and don't take this as bashing Vonleh but this is part of going pro. The things you get away with in college because you're "immature" or "naive" won't fly. This goes for a guy entering NBA as much as any of us who graduated and got a real job. If you're not mature enough personally you will be eaten alive. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
Is the draft actually fun? I'd love to go to that or the NFL one some time. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
One of the most fun nights I had last year. They sell beer, the entire stadium are hoops fans and going makes you really invested in knowing the prospects. Also amongst friends had some fun side bets on who was going to be taken next. Second round they just let everyone in lower bowl and we were sitting amongst some of the lower prospects. At Barclays last year they did a good job of showing highlights and keeping crowd engaged between picks. After leaving my friend and I basically committed to going every year as long as it's in NYC. I should also mention I will be attending the draft for the second straight year rocking Hoosier gear. One of the best events I've ever gone to. This year I am bringing a friend who is a 76ers fan so that night is the culmination of a lot of tanking! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I mean Zeller was as versatile a big on break as you'll see, Vonleh was able to get outside and work his game. Crean in no way restricted his versatility and never made him sit down low with no ability to score in other ways. If Noah didn't enjoy his time in Bloomington that's fine but I just can't understand how he felt Crean at all failed him or didn't allow him to display his abilities. When he decided to leave he told Gary Parrish it sucks he didn't go to the tourney. He can blame Crean for that but as the most talented player he needs to learn to hold himself accountable. Bad mouthing the program does him and no one else any good because he was a major part of the program this year. This is the same kid who in a must win game for tourney pulled himself out during walk through. I wish Noah the best but I think he has a lot of growing up to do personally and professionally now that he is a pro Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Calipari being hired was NOT a grassroots fan movement. He was coming off a national title game appearance at Memphis and was a perfect fit for them. He would've been the coach even if no fan ever made a petition or Facebook group.
