Just curious for what game would you have taken Troy out of starting lineup and who would you insert? The fact that you all are just now with so much hindsight suggesting this really shows how it really wasn't ever necessary. He was a freshman who just by how he plays the game is going to be prone to these mistakes. All young players go through this. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
Players absolutely care about starting.
Players care more about who finishes the game than who starts the game. The point is that you all are wrong that Crean did not ever bench Troy. He did it frequently throughout the season. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Starting spot means nothing. It's a symbolic thing that only fans seem to care about. Players care about being on the court at end of games which numerous times Troy was not. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners

There weren't games where Troy didn't start but there were games where he was benched for most of the game. So Crean did in fact bench him for stupid mistakes Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

Also a congrats is in order to bball4iu. He has officially fooled many on here to take his opinions as fact and can now post things to make it seem like every former IU player hates Crean. You did it man!! Way to go!! Number 1 insider!! Woohoo! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

This thread has officially gone off the rails with these past few posts. Let's keep in mind the conclusion you guys made tonight is that Crean is a lame duck coach because of some Facebook posts made by AJ Guyton after he found out he will be inducted into IU Hall of Fame while Crean is coach. It truly is amazing the way some people construe things to push forward their opinion. People do realize Calbert took a different and better job at SLU than was available at IU right? James Blackmon Jr. interview on WNDE
TheStillman replied to Hutch89's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Pretty much everyone knew that this was the case. Going into that day it was assumed that he was gone to Kentucky and he changed his mind at last minute. The 247 Crystal Ball was crazy that day. All of the reporters flipped at last minute. -
I am excited to see what Sudfeld can do with a full season under center. I will miss having Tre on roster as I think he could've been really really good this year and provided a great security blanket in case of injury but I personally feel like Sudfeld fits better with what Wilson wants to do offensively. I hope Tre finds the right spot and excels. This is just one of those situations where you wish you could trade in college sports. Would love to have traded Tre for a quality defensive player.

FYI I believe by that same stat Michigan was the youngest team in B1G last year. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

The other good thing for us is that for the second year in a row a talented big man will be drafted in the top 10 of NBA draft higher than he was expected to when he came to Bloomington. Let's see how 2015 and 2016 shake out here. Still have some talented guys on the board. Hope we can land a couple of them. Until we turn it around I hope you enjoy this time where you can go on any thread and take a worthless dig at the program. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners -

Talk of Michael Lewis and his assists record in the top starting lineups thread got me thinking, can Yogi break this record? Michael Lewis: 545 assists Yogi Ferrell: 272 assists through 2 seasons Doesn't get any closer than this, halfway there with half of his career left (for this sake of this conversation lets assume he stays all 4 years). Will he do it?

Spoke with Coach Crean the other night...
TheStillman replied to Never Daunted's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Good story. Crean always is very gracious and happy to talk with fans no doubt. On a related note when I visited IU my senior year of high school Kelvin Sampson was coach. On the way into campus we stopped by Assembly Hall and as we were walking down to the court Kelvin was up the stairs. We shook his hand but barely as he breezed past us unable to stop for even a second. -
Crean $20,000 for perfect academic progress rate
TheStillman replied to Basketball4iU's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I don't think it has anything to do with Tom Crean and has everything to do with your jokes not being funny. It could be any coach in the country and a joke about them clapping on the sideline would not be funny. -

Doesn't change the fact that we are only B1G school to get a perfect score 4 years in a row. -

"Jokes about Crean clapping are both original and funny" -A quote from no one ever -
I expect his assist numbers to go up a bit with more offensive weapons and shooters around him this year. In addition he will not need to shoot as much and I hope that improves his efficiency. 7 assists seems like a stretch though but I would like to see him get some double doubles. In order to break the record he needs to average 4.3 assists per game (assumes 64 games left in career). Looking at it this way and assuming no injuries it not only seems possible but probable. Go do it Yogi! Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners

Those exhibitions are always dicey. Coaches play weird lineups and give minutes to guys who would normally never see the floor. On top of that for the DII team it is like the Super Bowl. Every year it seems one or two high major teams and sometimes even a ranked team lose one of those games. Just glad we won that one on that day and it was very cool to see Oladipo make his first statement. Later in that week Zeller decided to be a Hoosier. -

Everyone saying watching Oladipo grow in general need to up their games! #1 Oladipo "wow" moment has to be his 4 point play followed by game saving block against Ferris State in the first exhibition game of his career. Knew from that moment the kid was gonna do big things. -

I know this was a dark time and involved everyone's favorite guy Sampson BUT the game against Michigan State with College Gameday on campus sticks out to me. It was right in the middle of the Sampson debacle and was the second to last game he ever coached at IU. On Wednesday the news broke that IU was in trouble again and it was pretty clear Sampson was a goner. Just so happened that Wednesday was the beginning of a critical stretch of home games for the B1G title. On Wednesday night IU came out firing on all cylinders against a tough Wisconsin team and nearly had them except for Brian Butch and his bank shot. The absolute worst. Which brings me to the game on Saturday against Michigan State. The first time Assembly Hall was a stripe out and it was done to perfection. The week of turmoil had the whole fanbase ready to explode and explode it did in what was the most cathartic release of energy I have seen in Assembly Hall outside of the Kentucky win. A monster 28 point performance from Gordon and major minutes from Deandre Thomas who filled in for DJ after an injury led IU to a 19 point win that felt like twice that. It was just strange time around the program highlighted by the fact that at the beginning of the game Sampson was booed as he entered Assembly Hall and by the end of the game people in the crowd were chanting his name. Strange and dark times no doubt. -
Crean $20,000 for perfect academic progress rate

Is anyone saying differently on here? I love that anything that could in any minimal way be construed as good news surrounding Crean needs to be caveated by someone saying "But we didn't win this year! Don't forget that we had a down year!"
