Don't discount Glass firing Freitag after a couple good but not great seasons and bringing in Yeagley. That was somewhat of a bold move to get rid of Freitag but he knew it was his shot to bring Yeagley back before he built a power at Wisconsin.

Watch how he moves within the offense. The kid has definitely learned a lot about the game. Also, look at his strength. He simply was not able to jump between two defenders and slam home a one handed dunk off a rebound last year the way he did multiple times yesterday.
-
Agree with both of these but it takes time and I think he will improve. Vic had the same turnover issues his sophomore year (and sometimes as a Junior too) and he couldn't shoot at all his second year. It has been great to see Troy become his own player this year. If he adds any sort of a consistent jumper he can be the best player in the B1G.

Troy has made some major leaps in his game this year and has clearly put in the time. Just look at his muscles and strength to see the time he has put in. His tweeting and matching of his shoes has nothing to do with any of this and to suggest that him doing that is going to cause him to work less is just wrong. Not really sure your point. I give Crean a lot of credit for the improved Troy this year. He has not been a disappointment at all.

If everyone is taking this dudes word as truth on topics such as this it deserves to be pointed out when he's way off. When he is right on something everyone will be in line to congratulate him but simply pointing out when he's wrong is not ok?

Michigan Vs Indiana Post Game Thread
TheStillman replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Remember when Pitt tried to foul Butler in the tournament and Howard threw the ball toward basket to get a shooting foul even though he was at the opposite basket? It is not always the best move and can backfire especially when the team is on its end of the court. -
Personally I am ok with not fouling. So much can go wrong with that strategy.

Match last years win total. Progress is good to see!

You really think people are getting banned here for being critical of the program or team? Have you looked at any of the big threads right now?

Also noticed that the SOS has improved greatly. So much for the hand wringing over what many perceived as a weak non conference schedule

Good call here

Also in an IU section lower bowl. No boos. Standard cheers when announced. -

Didn't hear this at all at Louisville game -
There's an entire offseason to debate the state of the program and whether a move should be made. We're about to begin a HUGE 8 game stretch where this team can make some major noise nationally entering the tourney. Anyone else see where we've played the 2nd hardest conference schedule in B1G so far. And we've come out of it relatively healthy (once Hanner comes back) and set up to get a top 8 seed in the tourney. Sunday sets the tone. Assembly better be rocking for these kids because it's in this game where we get our mojo back.

Indiana won't be Indiana until it wants to be Indiana

Haha not sure. I go to Mulhollands in Brooklyn for a lot of games with a fellow Hoosier and we always seem to run into other fans. Most are in the wait and see camp there. -
With the "Second Four" Complete we are now 5-3 halfway through these final 16 games. Pretty good and right on point to where we needed. The "Second Four" was always going to be the toughest stretch and winning even 2 of those games was a longshot, such is life on the road in the B1G. Moving on we need to win 5 of our final 8, which is extremely doable. Outside of Maryland there's no reason we shouldn't be thinking we are the favorites with every game remaining. This team has a run in it. There's a month left in the season. Feel free to sit around and sulk about what you think Indiana should be, continue to talk about why we lost to Syracuse and how we don't act like an elite program. There's plenty of threads around here to do that and act like you're Skip Bayless on First Take with your hot takes on the IU program's future. But in reality we have a shot at finishing top 3 in the conference and securing a top 6 seed in the tournament. It is a total crapshoot from there and I like this team's chances in the tournament. So what is everyone's prediction on remaining games? Mine is 6-2 with losses at Maryland and at home to Iowa. We finish the season strong with a big win over MSU. We also beat Purdue by more than they beat us.

It really depends who you talk to. Most of my friends from college are in the camp of wait and see what happens this year and next. I would say the same about most IU fans I talk to when I go out to bars in NYC. I haven't found a place or talked to anyone with the anti-Crean fervor that I see on here. -

The name of this thread "Indiana won't be Indiana until it wants to be Indiana" is exactly the roundabout type of speech that people complain Crean does way too much of. It is a phrase that sounds like you're saying something interesting when in actuality you're saying nothing. -

Totally agree which is why I'm saying a team winning or losing the second half is not a telling statistic. Needs further digging into the situation -

It is interesting to look at and I missed the post where you broke down game by game. I still think looking just at the second half score is an incomplete analysis. Half-over-half change matters. The data gets noisy as well when looking at blowouts in either direction (won or loss) or close games when foul shooting comes into play at end. These all factor into the score but don't fully reflect what a coach did or did not do at halftime. For example, there could be a game where team A is down 8 at half and come back to take lead at some point then in final minute end up down 3. After fouling Team B to extend the game Team A ends up losing by 9. So Team A lost the second half by 1. Does that really say anything about a coaches halftime adjustments? By your analysis the coach didn't adjust at half but in fact they took the lead and lost in final minutes. -

The sad thing is both sides of the Crean argument used the "ask so and so about coach" as if it is valid in the debate. -

It's an interesting stat but it's also a very noisy stat. To make causal conclusions from that stat seems like a fallacy. Would like to read some of the advanced analytics on second half performance. I would guess it is not overly informative stat to follow. -

I agree tournament should not be only thing that matters. My posts have somewhat been taking aim at those who say the entire 2012-13 season was for nothing because of the tournament loss. The outright B1G title matters when we haven't accomplished that in 20 years. It's never the final goal but to lose sight of where we have been so significantly that an accomplishment like that is so diminished is unfair in my opinion. Personally I think the tournament is a crapshoot and basing how good a coach is off a run in tournament is foolish. Just ask USC fans with the Enfield hire. -

TheStillman replied to Magnanimous's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I understood your post. I'm asking what our actual 2nd half record is and how much worse is it than our actual record. I think even that analysis isn't quite complete and the differential between between first and second half is more informative. MSU game is a great example. We got smoked in first half but came out strong and only lost by 1 in second half. That matters to me and I think it matters when analyzing if we're a worse second half team. -

They still were an accomplishment. My point is that we can't talk about how the tournament is really all that matters than discount everything that happens in first two rounds. 1 seeds lose that 8-9 game very frequently
