I think they make assumptions for how the rest of the season goes for a team correct?  Anyone know what they assumed so that IU got a 6 seed?

    The next 6 games.

The team can't.  As fans we can talk about whatever we want.
  3.   IU has not been consistently elite for 20 years.  The Crean era is no different than the 13 years before that except we actually did have some success for 2 straight years with a chance to have tournament success this year.     Bottom line, everyone wants the same thing, to win games in the tournament and win titles.  But this is a process.  People should not have outsized expectations for this years team because that would be unfair to them.  Now next year if everyone stays I think the expectations should be higher but what is the point of putting unfair expectations on this group.     Just enjoy the season at hand.  We take care of business over this final stretch and we are definitely in the tournament possibly with a top 6 or 7 seed.  That is PROGRESS towards the goal we all want which is a great thing for the program.
  4.     It is so shameful that IU fans can just talk about the current basketball season without having to make it a broader argument about the state of the program.     Clearly everyone here is hoping for a one and done exit in the tournament.  That is what we all want

    The next 6 games.

It is never going to be easy but what this team has shown is the ability to win at home.  I think 3-3 is a possibility just do not go 2-4 or 1-5.

    The next 6 games.

5 more wins gets us a 6 or 7 seed with an outside shot at a 5 I think.   If we go 3-3 or 2-4 with a win in the BTT then I think Dayton is a possibility.
  7.   If we collapse and go 3-3 or 2-4 over these final 6 yes we will be directly on the bubble and will need a win in the B1G tourney but you can't deny we are in great shape heading into the easiest stretch we have in our conference schedule.  It is not like the optimism that we make the tourney is based on nothing.  This team has shown the ability to consistently beat teams at home and the only road games we have left are the two easiest ones on our schedule.     Look at the body of work this season.  It would be more out of character for this team to go 3-3 or 2-4 over the final 6 then to go 4-2.

It is all about matchups.  Yes we do not have much size but in Lunardi's most recent bracket IU is an 8 seed in a bracket with San Diego State as the 9, Gonzaga at 1, Wichita at 4 and Oklahoma State at 5.  None of those teams would overwhelm us with size outside of Gonzaga but we also have a PG who can matchup with Pangos.  We definitely have a chance against them.   Let's see where we end up before dismissing any chance at a run.  I know some on here dismissed this team in August and with 6 games left continue to try to do so.  Well the rest of us are excited that we're in the tournament and have optimism for a run.  Join the party.

    IU vs. MD Postgame Thread

Are you looking at a secret mock draft? Troy isn't on any that I have seen and it is highly unlikely he climbs into them that quick. I'd be shocked if he's not back.

It's the tournament. Matchups matter and anything can happen. Look at some of the current bracket draws for this year and tell me you can see in some of them IU pulling off 3-4 wins. Anything is possible in March

    IU vs. MD Postgame Thread

When you watch the play in real time you see that yes Troy is open but Dez Wells is closer to the passing lane than it looks in that photo.  If he reacts quick on it he may intercept or at least deflect a pass.  It all happens so quick and it is a tougher pass than it looks in the screenshot.   Yogi got a wide open look at the top of the key for the win.  That is essentially a 50-50 shot for him.  Cannot ask for much better.

He's using up his final year of eligibility this year unfortunately.

Interesting. Sina was nearly a Hoosier. I wonder if there will be any interest on our end.

JBJ will be a beast once he gets a year of college level strength training under his belt

In what way?  Both are undersized point guards that started playing on a very good team as freshman, grew their games once the stars left around them and became elite as upperclassmen.  Both do not fit the NBA mold of a prototypical point guard.   Not saying it is perfect but if you're looking for a comparable player to make the case he should stay it is Shabazz.

Totally agree that if we somehow make a run to elite 8 and Yogi is a dominant player throughout that run he can solidify his draft stock as a first rounder and in that case yes he probably should go.  But if it looks at all like he is going to be in second round or undrafted (which is where it stands now) then he should stay.  The extra year will not be a deal breaker for NBA teams if they like his skillset.   I disagree completely that the only place his stock can go is down.  All you need to look at it is Shabazz Napier for evidence.

(2015) C Thomas Bryant to IU

Crean arguments and posts complaining about the kids mom.  Probably not the best thing to send to him.

Work ethic or not with those guys they gave up years of college career to go in the 2nd round which is where Yogi is projected.     I think some would take the money and move along but I just do not see it with Yogi.  I could very well be wrong.

The money will be there after his senior year too.  He is the son of a doctor I don't think it's an issue for him where he needs to rush things.

See my post below yours.  If he goes 2nd round this year chances are he plays very little in NBA and is in Europe a year from now anyway.  So is he going to give a year up of college just to hear his name called and ride the bench for a year?  I just do not see it with him.

    My Boy Yogi

A few recent examples from the B1G of guys who had "no more to show" at the college level, left early and to just go undrafted or drafted in 2nd round:   LaQuinton Ross (undrafted, now in Europe) Deshaun Thomas (drafted 58th overall, now in Europe) Glenn Robinson III (drafted 40th overall, sits bench for the T-Wolves, hasn't played more than 1 minute since 1/26, has only played over 10 minutes once the entire season)   I just don't see Yogi viewing this as something he would want enough to forego something special next year.  He can be National Player of the Year, All-American, set the IU school assists record and lead the fastest offense in the country.  Why give that up to go to Europe or ride the pine in the NBA?
  23. TheStillman

    My Boy Yogi

The thing is unless Yogi goes off in the tourney he is a borderline 1st round prospect simply because of his size.  Not saying he can't have a solid NBA career because I think he can, but when it comes to the draft he needs to completely dominate a la Shabazz in order to go in the 1st round.   I agree with the sentiments here that he has nothing else to show the NBA scouts because he doesn't.  He is a very good point guard who can shoot, beat his man on the dribble, make any pass and take care of the ball.  NBA scouts know what he is.   But this is not a reason to leave.   If the scouts know what they're getting and will not put him as a solid 1st round prospect why would he leave before his senior year and potentially go undrafted?  The draft is a fickle matter.  Once you get past the 1st round there are no guarantees and the 2nd round is packed with international prospects that teams draft and stash in Europe.

    Hanner Perea's Defensive Impact

Hanner needs to improve his consistency but efforts like he gave last night and earlier in the year against Nebraska show he is someone we need to be healthy.
